Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Yes, that's probably true for his particular camcorder. It's not true of *all* camcorders, though.

In your case, probably not.

Not really. If you usually get someone else to shoot them,...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with *not* changing focal length during a shot.

It depends entirely on the make and model of the camcorder. Some of them actually are capable of performing...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

The primary appeal of *full-frame* DSLRs (such as the Canon 5D Mk. II which started this whole thing back in Oct. 2008), is the ability to achieve very shallow depth-of-field, which narrative...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

If this is the Canon EF 75-300 that you've mentioned before, then I am afraid to say it but the cost to repair will most likely exceed its value.

That lens is worth about $200. In my experience,...

Re: A carry case for the RODE Blimp.

Yowza!

It's a shame that the videos from Joel Ailes above seem to be long gone.

(Paul, when is the memorial service? I'll send flowers.)

Re: Found on YouTube -- "Apollo 11: The Complete Descent"

My favorite joke about that: of course everybody knows that NASA hired Stanley Kubrick to produce the "faked" lunar landing. But what's not well known is that Stanley insisted on shooting on...

Found on YouTube -- "Apollo 11: The Complete Descent"

I wanted to post this back on July 20th, the date of the 50th Anniversary of the first manned lunar landing, but we were having YouTube and Vimeo embedding issues then. Now that those are fixed, I'm...

Re: New-in-box Sony FS5

It took me the better part of a year to sell a RED Epic X Dragon at a price that was uncomfortably low in my opinion. The process can definitely take some time. Hang in there and don't give in to...

Re: UWOL 52 Animal Kingdom by Dale Guthormsen

I really loved the shot at 2:30 -- no critters, but the wind makes the prairie look like a rolling sea.

Which as I understand is what the pioneer immigrants thought of it when they first came...

Re: UWOL 52 - The Kingdom Of The Birds by Henry Williams - Feedback Thread

Great stuff, Henry!

Many thanks for taking the time to create and submit this work.

I can say with certainty that we do not have birds like these in Central Texas, which is what made it...

Re: What camera lens should I get for this project of shooting animals close up?

My pleasure, David. You will not be disappointed with the EF-S 18-135 IS nano + Power Zoom Adapter.

My fear is that Canon just did a one-off with the PZA interface, and we may never see it again...

Re: What camera lens should I get for this project of shooting animals close up?

It's not a good idea. Don't do it.

I have three resources that you might want to look through for some ideas and guidance.

The first is a Vimeo channel for DV Info Net's wildlife filmmaking...

Re: What camera lens should I get for this project of shooting animals close up?

Sorry, but "perhaps" is not a good enough reason to break an established pattern.

Your client doesn't seem to think that 16:9 is broken. Therefore, you should not try to fix it.

If you do,...

That's news to me, although I have to admit it makes sense. Thanks for the tip about this. I'll see what I can find out.

Re: What camera lens should I get for this project of shooting animals close up?

Your lens cannot be used with an extender, sorry.

The Rebel is giving you a 1.6x crop, which is like having a 1.6x extender built right in.

Seth mentioned the EF 100-400mm telephoto zoom. That...

Re: What camera lens should I get for this project of shooting animals close up?

There are several different Canon 300mm lenses.

Which one do you have, specifically?

I ask because you might have the option of using a Canon 1.4x extender.

Also, which Canon camera body...

Re: What camera lens should I get for this project of shooting animals close up?

You should consider renting such a lens instead of buying one -- https://www.lenslenders.ca/

The lenses that Seth mentions above are variable aperture. All you have to do is stop down to the...
