In the digital realm, stop-frame animation is normally done with still cameras. Trying to do this with a video camera recording to tape is will be frustrating, at best. You could use the still photo...

What seems odd to me is the length of he dropouts. If only one GOP is affected, there should be a problem for 15 frames, but the "freeze" lasts about 1.5 seconds - 40 PAL frames. In any case,...

Cleaning may have solved the problem

The stuttering and sound loss does appear to be HDV dropout after all. After a cleaning, it seems ok now. It didn't take very long to get dirty heads - only about 3 hours from the previous cleaning....

The same problem

I've just noticed a similar problem with my A1, in fact the identical problem. It doesn't look like a tape dropout, as there aren't any mosaic-y artifacts, just a stutter. It happened 4 times last...

Jagged edges in external monitor?

Using Firewire output to a camcorder, and then to an external monitor (TV) to preview sequences, there is a pronounced flicker, as well as jagged lines indicating a field order problem. I am at a...

If you shot the footage in SD, then the capture process to the PC simply copies the data from the tape to your PC. There is no recompression, and absolutely zero loss of quality, no matter whether...

I've reported the problem to Canon's helpdesk via email. We can only hope that someone takes some action. There really isn't professional-level support for these cameras. I don't mean to knock...

XH A1E (PAL) - 'black line' downconvert problem

I have exactly the same problem with my A1. You don't see it on a monitor, since it's in the overscan area, but when looking at footage in the Premiere Pro capture window or in Windows Media Player...

Tale of Two Canons - mixing 25P with 25F

Should I expect any issues with mixing 25P footage from an HV20 with 25F from an XH-A1? Not in terms of image quality, but in terms of importing the two into the same timeline without having to go...

For capture of 60i HDV, choose the appropriate Adobe HDV preset. It is built in to the regular version of 2.0. Note that you won't find it in the trial version, as there is no MPEG encoder.
