It may not be possible to get good and wide for $500, but the Lumix 7-14mm f4 is both for $890.

FCP X will easily handle AVCHD with no transcoding, or transcode during import if you wish. However, FCP X insists you import from the original AVCHD file structure on your SD card.

Like Patrick, I highly recommend the Lumix 14mm f2.5, and use it more often than the Lumix 20mm f1.7 for indoor/outdoor low-light.

For an additional $3,500 the Panasonic AF100 will solve all these issues. How much can we expect from a camera body which costs less than most external monitors?

Unfortunately, our cameras cannot always adapt to how we want to work, however, we can adapt to our cameras. With several months practice, you may be surprised how well you'll zoom.

Thanks Greg. On a recent Canyon project I used only a Manfrotto 561 fluid monopod. For three days there was little wind and I could get 1 good pan in 3 to 5 attempts. I often use a lightweight setup...

Any Gitzo carbon fiber series 1 or 2 tripod, and nothing lighter than the Manfrotto 701HDV head will do.
