Re: Auto settings for stage shows

I don't know, Peter. First thought is: if you underexpose, maybe you'll at least be able to adjust a little in post.

Other thought is: different cameras with different exposure levels, so you've...

Re: A question about 16bpc editing

Looks good to me, but I don't know that much about AE. I'm pretty sure that if you work in 16 bit in AE, you'll preserve some of that detail even if you output to 8 bit.

In terms of rendering...

Re: ?Ways to Use a GoPro - And which one?

I've started to use GoPros more often at ceremonies. For instance, even if you're just dedicating them to special tasks (musician cam; mothers lighting the candles cam), or using them to cover...

Steadicam use at weddings

Curious about how other people use steadicams, though I know this has been discussed in various ways before.

In my own case... Well, I make style rules for myself. For instance, I never shoot...

Re: Listing prices on website

Well, I know I've got a small number of clients because I list prices. They liked the fact that it was clearly laid out, and I totally sympathise with that -- even if I go to a shop in the food...

Re: DSLR for weddings

Just wanted to emphasize one point: automatic recording restart of Canon DSLRs with Magic Lantern. I think that's a huge feature for weddings.

Without automatic restart, you will miss something...

Re: How do you get all the wedding information?

Hey Diana, there's lots of ways to do it... I don't know what the best way is. One common thing photographers etc do in Sydney is just have a second meeting before the wedding itself; also helps you...

Re: How do you get all the wedding information?

It would also chew up more time though! I think a lot of your couples live quite far from you, so you probably couldn't attend... except in spirit, or via Skype.

Re: going wireless from ex1r to hdtv for ceremony

I was working with a crew on Friday who were doing live streaming to a projector in the reception room as well as to LiveStream for display on Facebook. I wish I'd checked out their gear more...

Re: How are you shooting closeup detail e.g shoes, flowers?

I'm boring. Pretty much always slider here, which is fiddly and time-consuming. If in a rush -- pick up steadicam. If ridiculously rushed, monopod and that's it; basically never do handheld.

Re: Migrated to Premiere Pro CC

Have to say I've had a lot of problems with PPro lately as well. CS6 worked fine. CC worked alright, and thank God for warp stabiliser. CC 2014 is giving me a lot of headaches, the main ones of which...

Re: Two Camera heads

Hey Dave, here's one of the earlier threads: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/wedding-event-videography-techniques/525426-mounting-2-cameras-one-tripod.html.

By the way, does "two cameras, one tripod"...

Just wanted to add some comments on the Joe Simon and Bob Nicolas videos.

Re: How do you politely tell customers 'no preview copy'

Commonest requests I've had are:

-- music changes (not so frequent anymore; if I sense the couple might be choosy about music, I ask in advance what music they like)
-- guests out ("Don't like...

Re: How do you politely tell customers 'no preview copy'

Seems like a sensible suggestion, Paul. I also like the general direction of your thinking -- option to make edits, but put limits on it. But even here there are potentially grey areas.

Firstly, I...

Re: How do you politely tell customers 'no preview copy'

Just wanted to add $0.02.

I do give my clients one round of changes for my shorter videos. One reason is simply that I want them to be happy. If they're going to have to live with the video for...

Re: Manfrotto allen key

Gah... Stupid comment deleted.

Just wanted to add: 8mm for the socket wrench, and you probably need a socket wrench to tighten the monopod legs.

Re: Sony a7s for weddings

It does, and my second shooter still stuffed up regardless! Why? Because: (a) he used a steadicam outdoors, so LCD screen is hard to see in the first place; (b) he's so accustomed to steadicam he...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony

Hi Paul, just wanted to add that, in the scheme of things, this is probably not a difference that will translate into money. I mean, I'm sceptical using Tamron rather than Canon will lose you sales,...
