Re: Canon Cinema EOS 50-1000mm telephoto servo zoom lens announced

To me the big question is why is Canon continuing to solely focus it's video zoom lens efforts on the high end and rental market. They've sold countless C100s and C300s to small producers like most...

Re: Sony a7S S-Log 2 Footage Available for Download

Thanks Derran. Thet still looks a lot better, although it still seems to a notch down in detail from what I typically see on my C300. (It's always hard to tell though....so take that with a grain of...

Re: Sony a7S S-Log 2 Footage Available for Download

Hi Derran,

Thanks for posting these. I've downloaded two of the files, and am in process on the third, and I'm seeing a relative lack of sharpness. It almost looks like there is a focus issue, but...

Re: Matching C100 with BMPCC

I think the first question you've got to answer is whether you're going to be shooting in raw or pro-res.

The BMPCC has a severely baked-in look that I've found is almost impossible to overcome in...

Re: C100 very noisy

Try as I may, Gary, I'm unable to find a consensus (or nary a peep) of discussion that the Ninja when used with the C100 produces a noisier result.

What I did find was Paul Joy's nice review of...

Re: C100 very noisy

Gary--- let me put it this way then. Shooting to the ninja/samurai produces a cleaner, less noticeable noise profile regardless of the camera NR setting than shooting to the internal codec. Relying...

Re: C100 very noisy

While is some ways Gary is correct here, I'm going to generally disagree that using the ninja to moderate the noise off the C100 is a bad idea. My experience with the c300 and the samurai is that the...

Re: LED lighting, what about all the stuff to go with it?

I've been testing an Arri L7-C, and this is about the most versatile light on the planet.

The ability to tune the color along both the yellow-blue and magenta-green axes is phenomenal--you can...

Re: Hot swapping lenses, one more time...

I've never had a problem...but I sure don't want to.

I'd turn off the camera.

Re: Down and Dirty Sensor Size Guide

Actually…His measurements of super35, APS-C and Full Frame are way…way off. Here's some quick math, excuse if I'm off a few hundredths...

Full Frame is 1.7"
Super 35 is 1.13"
APS-C is 1.09"

Re: LED lighting, what about all the stuff to go with it?

Interestingly, our new Area48 remote phosphor LED lights are great looking with the tungsten panels installed. Good match for our baby moles on color, and the skintones look great.

The daylight...

Re: Zeiss CP.2 bracket

Actually, zacuto just came out with a new hook/foot lens support system for compact primes by zeiss and canon. It seems to be a nice design, which eliminates one of the primary drawbacks of most lens...

Re: Sony RX10 point-and-shoot camera

I ordered my RX10 yesterday and apparently a $300 rebate just showed up in the dealer system, even though it hasn't been "announced" yet. Perhaps the "torn" open box deal is how adorama is "not"...

Re: Canon 35MM T1.5 Cinema Prime $5200 ETA Dec 2013

Hey... I'm not crazy:-)

From FotoCare's website (and a dozen others selling the CN-E lenses, indicating the language came from Canon)

Re: Canon 35MM T1.5 Cinema Prime $5200 ETA Dec 2013

Interesting. All I've ever heard is that they are essentially the same designs, with cine mechanicals, an 11 blade iris, and possibly new coatings. Not necessarily a bad thing, except in the case of...

Re: Canon 35MM T1.5 Cinema Prime $5200 ETA Dec 2013

Hey Terry,

I was wondering if you know the answer to the question I posted earlier...regarding the design of the cn-e 35mm relative to the older(current) / newer(patent info speculation) versions...

Re: Canon C100 - Internal Codec vs Prores External

Here are a couple of 400% crops from some ungraded iso 2500 footage. Obviously you'd never look at the footage this way, this is just an example of what the differences are between the card and a...

Re: Sony RX10 point-and-shoot camera

I think my main obstacle in this camera is the lack of 1080p30 output. It's just so odd that Sony includes 1080p60 (a non standard) and neglects a standard format like 30p... Forcing you toss half...

Re: Canon 35MM T1.5 Cinema Prime $5200 ETA Dec 2013

Curious if anyone knows whether the new 35mm is based on the "old" (current) 35mm 1.4L EF lens or the "new" (unannounced) 35mm 1.4L II for which canon published a patent back in March. Nothing in the...

Re: Canon C100 - Internal Codec vs Prores External

Lot's of people just simply convert everything to ProRes after the fact, as it's a better editing format anyway...if you're concerned about problems upstream...then that's the way to control things....

Re: c100 users enlighten me from the 60d

You may not find the c100 to be less noisy. The 5d has a ton of noise reduction applied, which is one of the reasons the image is so soft. But the character of the noise in the c100 image should be...

Re: Canon C100 - Internal Codec vs Prores External

The biggest difference will be in the level of compression artifacting. Specifically, if you blow up the the avchd footage to 200 or 400% you'll see the typical image compression you might see on a...

You might also want to search Jonathan Yi c300. He did an insightful and humorous comparison of that camera versus the 5d mark2 when it first came out that was one of the best arguments against...
