Bennis Hahn August 15th, 2005 03:27 PM

MTV, huh? So did you get a title shot with Trishelle like everyone else? Man, I wish I was in that lineup.

Semi Movie Trailer

I shot this for a demo of the dolly I built, but decided to try and write a script for it for my video class this semester.

Tell me what you think please.

Those are some smooth dolly moves. Great job. Was the camera mounted on a fluid head? I noticed some of the pan movements where a bit steppy (just enough to be noticable).

Chris Metts August 18th, 2005 11:06 PM

Cool stuff Bennis,
The dolly moves were very smooth and the shot compostion was good. What effects from what program did you use to get the "glow" from the windows? Also what camera and settings did you use?

Thanks,
Chris.

Bennis Hahn August 19th, 2005 06:29 AM

Robert: I was using a Bogen 501 head, but I didn't take the time to make sure all the shots were perfect. Everything there except for the shot of the kid was the first take. So user error is the problem (24p might have some small effect).

Chris: I shot this on a Pana GS200 in black and white. 1/60 shutter and kept the gain to +3dB. Used a couple lights from home depot (clip on kind with 200w bulbs) to brighten things up a little. Went to 24p in Vegas 5 and used the color gradient filter to get the blue/green cast. Then I just used Sony "Glow" to get the effect on the windows.

Thanks for watching.

Bennis,
I think I was more attracted to the feel of the different shot not just your dolly movements.

Besides, that was a great explanation on how you composed everything on Vegas.

It was very nice. I like the look of the whole Trailer .. especially the one at the back yard with the rope moving left right.

Could you detail more on the lighting set up for the boy in the living room. That's definitely more of a 3D look to me?. Any 3 angle lighting set ups?

It was really simple. I just used the existing light from the windows, and filled in with one 200w light to the left of the boy. It is right behind the door frame actually. I did this to it would be very bright on that side of his face, so I could stop down to make the other side be (almost) completely dark.
