XL1 footage doesn't play well on Z1 at DVinfo.net

As some of you know, I just rented a Z1.

I played some footage taken with a REALLY OLD SCHOOL XL1 and there were macroblocks everywhere (and the footage was DV SP)!!!

Anyone else had the same problem? The footage played fine on my Optura 20.

I'm almost sure it's an issue with the Canon. Even my Pana 953 can't playback tapes from one of my XL-2 cameras. In theory, a mini-DV system should play back tapes from any other, however that's not the reality in some cases. Canon and Sony are notable in this regard. Many have reported problems getting Canon tapes to playback on Sony decks.
