Camera support for accessories
I have been trying to find camera supports that can hold several things on the side of the Z1, like a mixer and/or pcm audio recorder.
The Bracket1 I had bought for my PDX10 two years ago ended up being a very tight support for the Z1. You can hold two things, one on top of the other, but in a vertical way, when the ideal position should be horizontal. Even if this question might also have a place in DVInfo's Audio section, what I am discussing here has to do with the Z1/FX1 and HDV in general. As you know HDV records audio in MPEG, a compressed tech. I don't think you can get the maximum audio quality in anything but linear. So a pcm external recorder should be in order. As it's difficult to implement time-code output on the Z1, a simpler two channel recorder should be fine. My pick would be on the Zoom H4, which records in 2GB CF cards. MSRP: $299. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search The next question is debatable: using an external mixer. This should really be something to discuss in the Audio section, and I will take it there. My present proposal, which I will soon try with a portable MD recorder, is recording the Z1 audio directly on the external recorder, using the audio/video jack on the left. In that way you use the Z1 as preamp, recording audio on the camera and the external device at the same time. So back to my original question: what other brackets or supports have you used, read about or are satisfied with for the Z1? Carlos |
