Kit lens, almost macro / Richards profile clip
This post is about two things. The kit lens and Richards profile he so generously shared on this forum.
The EA50 kit lens is the least expensive lens I own. All of my other glass is Canon “L” series. I never thought I would like a kit lens so much. Yes, it is slow, other than that it is a good lens. It is not specified by Sony as macro but it is pretty good at it. The factory minimum focus distance is 12”. It’s true, even at 200mm. I wanted to check it out so I shot this clip of a spider. It is a small spider, less than a half inch in diameter. Not a true macro, but good enough. Check it out. I was also testing a new profile shared by a DVINFO member, Richard Crook. He calls it"CPF FILMIC 1.0", it is here : http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-nex...e-profile.html I was incredibly pleased with the profile! After all of the changes made in the profile I never imagined it would hold both shadow and highlight detail as well as it does. Direct sunlight was coming from screen right, there was some natural fill in the shadows but not a lot. Zebras were set at 90% and the highlights on the bug I used for bait were striped but everything is there. I shot in 720P/60 @ 125 / f13. Vimeo compression knocked it back to 30 FPS. The last 40 seconds are slowed down to 25% but it does not look like slow mo. Also, the profile enhances red, but the plant in the background is red and green. Check it out, the password is.....spider Private Video on Vimeo Thank You Richard! Steve

Pretty cool! Loved the intense music... LOL!
I'm going to play around and test out that profile. I saw that thread the other day but have been rather busy (and sick) but I want to check it out. I'll see if I can find a shot of some critter that was on my door when I first got my EA50... Nothing special but it was impressive for the "macro" you discussed and showed. |

Hey Jerome,
If I remember correctly weren't you building a studio from the ground up? Was that you? Is it built yet? Steve

Well, the company I technically work for was/is. It's STILL being built. It's a nightmare. We'll see what the future holds ;-)
