Where to buy VX2000 in Canada

OK, I've searched and searched. I've seen B&H in the states but no listings for Canadian dealers, let alone Vancouver.

I've also seen Leo's Camera but they do Canon. Might check out GL2. However, I'm currently fixated on the VX2000 and want to buy very soon

Any recommendations?

Did a search on sony site for vancouver retailers. Came across MATRIX PROFESSIONAL VIDEO SYSTEMS and Commercial electronics. Matrix quoted me $3881 for the vx2000 and $5200 for the PD150.

Commercial was quite a bit higher in price, as expected. I'll be going to the stores to check out the cams and chat.

Any input on these dealers or suggestions on others would be most appreciated.

G&G Electronics in Toronto, will beat that price for a VX2K and you'll save the PST which is around $300 alone. I just called them and while they wouldn't give me a price over the phone they did say the savings would be at least $100. I guess they're afraid of the Sony police or whatever.

http://ggelectronics.com/

They are a huge retailer and sell only Sony and panasonic. I've bought my camera , several TV's, camera batteries and herds of assorted doo-dads. they don't dicker , but have a good discount price. They can get the PD150 as well (They gave me a killer price for one last year)

Email me and I can give you more info. I'm going on the road tomorrow and will be gone for a week so email me today. beaser@eudoramail.com

I'm in Edmonton, Alberta. I just got a VX2000 at McBain Camera last week. They're in Edmonton (www.mcbaincamera.com) but I'm sure they ship anywhere. No PST.

In Calgary I'd try www.vistek.ca. They have a listing on their web site for $4,299.

I phoned Matrix here in Edmonton last week for a price and they quoted me $4,500. That didn't even seem to be in the ball park. I'm not quite sure where the discrepancy comes from. That's quite a bit higher than what you were quoted for the same products.

True, but you have to factor in the PST in BC (7.5%!). That works out to be almost the same.

Leo's is a Canon and Pana dealer, in way of cams. They also bring in pro JVCs. I can suggest some dealers in Vancouver, but I don't know which dealer has the lowest price. I'd consider Bryan's suggestion. They sound good. Plus, coming from TO, you won't get dinged PST (not from Ontario nor BC).

Suggestions for dealers in Vancouver would be most welcome. Don't know why but I think I like the idea of buying from a local dealer.

If you buy from a Sony Canada Dealer, you'll have no problems getting service. That $4500 was full list price. That's par for Edmonchuk though.

If you buy at G&G that's 3800 or less with no PST, so that beats the hell out of Vistek. Vistek will deal but not over the phone.

Try Terry at http://www.dvshop.ca/index.html
he always beats out the big guys and he's a very straight shooter. Nice guy, I've done business with him often.

Another good place to buy in Vancouver is Lorne Lapham, www.llsr.com. They're near 1st Avenue and Boundary on the Burnaby side. I think the three major places to buy a VX2000 or PD150 locally are Commercial Electronics, Matrix and Lorne Lapham.
One nice thing about Lorne's is that they have lots of accessories in stock that you can pick up and look it. Commercial has almost nothing in comparison. Matrix's showroom is decent but they don't seem as hands on. All the people that work at Lorne's are very knowledgeable in everything they sell.

Yes, Lorne Lapham http://www.llsr.com may not be the cheapest, but their service is great. A friend of mine deals with them---when he ordered his VX2000, they gave him a loaner for 3 weeks until his new cam came in.

Just called Lorne Lapham. Even on the phone, the person I spoke with seemed much more knowledgeable than the guy at Matrix.

Matrix touts their on-site servicing for pro cameras but the sales end doesn't instill confidence.

I agree with Chris' comment about the Matrix's showroom, a little hands-off for my taste.

Heading into Lorne Lapham this week.
