Dsr 250 What do I do?
Hi, I just bought a Used DSR 250 for $2,000. It is 3 years old and has 184xh on the drum 153xh on the tape and 165xh on the thread. The camcorder has the original head. What I want to know is what should I do to get this camcorder in perfect shape. It works fine now but... It has a lot of hours. I want to be able to rely on it. Please help...

Send it to Armatos or Sony for an evaluation.

dsr 250 lanc controller
Can anyone please tell me if the sony dsr 250 can take a manfrotto lanc controller and if yes were is the lanc port on the camera?
Thanks Paul |
Yes and Yes. At the right rear of the camera covered by a rubber cover there is a BNC out, a FW connection and a LANC conection. Personally I use a Varizoom VG-L (it's been a while since I looked at the exact designation) but I know lots of folks that use the Bogen and it works just fine.

Thanks Don,
Found it now. I have a 503 manfrotto head and wanted the controller that fits onto this head. |
We have two Manfrotto 521s on two DSR-250s; works great.

DSR 250 picky about tapes
My DSR 250 is only 5 months old and it is very picky about taking the Sony DVCAM 64 minute tapes but had no problem with the Sony 184 min tapes or the mini dv tapes, I went this morning to capture a wedding I did a few weeks ago and it will not take the tape at all to feed it into the Computer.
It was used to film the whole day and now it will not take it at all, any help would be great or will I have to send it back to Sony to have it fixed? Many thanks Paul Galagher |

Vx9000
Hello,
I've just been browsing ebay and spotted a Sony VX9000 going pretty cheap. I'm looking for a more 'manual' camera than my GS75 but I can find absolutely nothing regarding the quality etc of the VX9000. Can anyone tell me a little bit about it... for example comparable modern equivalents? It's part of the same family as the VX1000 but I can't tell if it's an upgrade or downgrade to the 1000. Thanks |

this must be what evolved into the DSR-200, minus DVCAM format.
|
I remember seeing one of these on ebay a year or two ago.
I thought they used full size tapes and could record 4 channels of audio. This information is strictly off memory and could all be inaccurate. |
As I recall the VX9000 is a Euopean model equal to the DSR200. I could be a bit confused but it is a very old piece of technology and frankly wouldn't be worth spending any money to buy something like that. The image quality is about the same as my now DOA VX1000. At the time it was mind blowing, today, not so much!

You know these days the DSR 300's are going for pretty cheap.
I have one and love it. It can match up with my pd 170 yet at the same time blow it out of the water. I saw DSR 300 go $2,300 on ebay. |
The VX9000 is the PAL version of the DSR200, which is the pro version of the VX1000. By today's standards, it's not all that good. The image will look soft when compared to any of the 1/3" chip cameras.
Did that DSR300 include a lens, batteries, charger, power supply? If you can get one in good condition, it was probably the best standard def 4:3 1/2" chip camera made. |
I have two and am trying to get more for a studio. they are great cam.
|
That one included lens 2 batts and a charger.
I payed $3,251 for mine, came with porta brace bag, lens, VF, StudioVF, AC Adaptor, 4 Batts, Charger, AB camera light, tripod plate, and some Varizoom controllers in a pare tree! I am sorry I had to brag it was such a great deal. |
About Sony DSR 250 P Camcorder
Hi all,
I need to buy a new camera which is good and professional. My works include news-documentaries, Ads etc.. What is the performance of Sony DSR 250 P Camcorder? How much will be the price of new one and 2nd hand one? Can anybody help me? -Saikiran |
It's a fine camera, but why would you consider a cam that only does DV and can't do widescreen? For the same price you could have an FX7, which will blow it away, resolution-wise, or if you must have a shoulder-mount, an HD1000.
Buying a new DV cam today is, in my opinion, like buying a B&W TV. |
Re: VX9000 / DSR200 / DSR250 various topics
I just purchased a DSR-200 for $140. I already had SONY batteries, so it got used the very same day to record a girls High School Varsity game. Even though I've been shooting HD for 2 years now, the DSR-200 still impressed me with the quality of its video. I did have difficulty using it, since I wasn't using a LANC. When shooting on tripod, you just gotta have a LANC attached when using this behemoth.
