insuring rental gear
i just put together a decent dvx100 package and i have friends in production companies that i can rent my gear to without much concern, but what about when i am getting called by unknown production companies, or individuals to rent my gear, what do i ask for to insure i can find the person if my gear isn't returned on time. What forms do rental houses require for some one to rent from them, also how do i insure these items, what kind of policy.

have them bring you a certificate of insurance with you/your company listed on it as the payee in event of loss/damage ..( call to make sure insurance is good on the dates and amounts listed - as i have worked on shoots that i saw them changing the dates and amount of the rental insurance from 50k to 100k )
for out of towners - references from other rental houses that they use in their home city. for individuals and those with questionalble reference??? a deposit for the TOTAL amount of the equipment ( cashiers check - call to make sure it is good) or don't rent it to them .. |

Have them have the insurance company send you the paper directly.
