Age

I am 30 ad my wife is 28 the rest of our company are in their early 20's so that forces both of us to stay abreast of the things we said we would never hate but do!

Cool - not the oldest for once. -- 50. I still get carded though. Guess that's not saying much anymore.

Does that mean you're tail-less...?

The Chevy Belair wasn't the only great thing made in 1955...50 years old here (a couple of months from 51) and love my video toys. But I'm not too old to learn a bunch of good stuff from you young'uns! So did anyone calculate the average age here? Must be about 30 or so...

Now, this is being very picky and I might even be wrong about it, but I seem to remember that the Chev Belair wasn't introduced until 1956. They brought out their new, modern look and their first V-8 in 1955, but I don't recall a Belair among the model names. That extraordinary Nomad wagon got its start in 1955, however.

For those of us from this era, these fine points of trivia are of the utmost importance. After all, what else did we have to discuss? There were no camcorders, no computers or video games, no portable music or phones and free love hadn't been invented yet. I challenge anyone under the age of 40 to tell how you distinguish a '55 Chev V-8 from a 6-cylinder model (without looking under the hood).

All I remember about the Belair is my sisters teasing my older brother about his "station wagon" and him saying it had a great compartment for concealing a cooler full of beer. :)

18 years. mmm hmmm (had to ass that mmm hmmm to make it to 10 characters) haha

Vincent Croce January 24th, 2006 07:02 PM

No, Steve, you weren't being picky about it, but you were wrong. Chev introduced the '55 Bel Air in '54 with the V8, fins, hooded headlights and everything. They did shorten it for '57, which made the fins stand out even more.
Now, how DO you tell a '55 Chev V8 from the 6 without lifting the hood?

Steve Madsen January 24th, 2006 09:29 PM

32, though mistaken by girl at work today for a 22 yo. Late starter in this game, but I haven't given up acting aspirations just yet :)

Thanks for the jeans, Mum.

23, computer-guy turned video-guy

I work with PCs all day, and I'm starting to get into the professional side of video production. I'm starting my own business on the side, wish me luck.....

Brandon T Jackson January 27th, 2006 01:10 AM

I'll be 21 this March.

OK, I am corrected about the year of the first Belair. The '55 V-8s were distinguished from the 6s, by two very small, chrome Vs, right below the taillights. They had the same Chev brand badge in the centers of the trunk and engine hoods, on both V-8s and 6s. Beginning in '56, this badge was used only on the 6s, with large, chrome Vs on both hoods, on the V8s. Classify this as information as close to being useless as is possible-----on a par with knowing how to tell a '58 T-Bird from a '59, without looking underneath at the springs.
