People in the States have all but wiped out several species. Send some down this way!

John Locke September 2nd, 2003 09:19 PM

Don't blame it just on the Chinese. Bear paw, bear liver, tiger paw, etc...those "remedies" and "stamina enhancers" are used all over Asia.

Wish I had a nickel for every time someone recommended eating dog or drinking deer antler tea to improve my overall health. Even had an MD recommend dog once. I passed.

But Keith...the medicinal authenticity of these remedies "have all been proven through stringest scientific research." ;) [Message drummed into the heads of the Asian TV-viewing public]

Keith Loh September 2nd, 2003 10:06 PM

Anyway, I think it's barbaric. I believe they linked SARS to the consumption of endangered species as well so I hope there's a lesson in that.

Ronald Lee March 8th, 2004 01:36 AM

Who here is in Vancouver, Canada?

I guess this is the best place to ask this.

I noticed that some of us here are in Vancouver, BC, Canada?

If you are, maybe you can state so here, or email me at eb7g@shaw.ca.

I'm here as well (of course) and am always interested in meeting fellow videographers, possibly to throw some work around as well.

Ron

Keith Loh March 8th, 2004 02:10 AM

I am. Whatsup.

Dylan Couper March 8th, 2004 02:49 AM

Hey.
There's lots of us here. At least 6-10 active members, and probably twice as many more that visit from time to time.

Frank Granovski March 8th, 2004 04:12 AM

I'm in Kits. But I have little free time.

There are a number of Vancouverites in our MX forum.

John Gaspain March 8th, 2004 04:36 AM

HEY! Im Your neigbor here in Seattle!

David Stone March 8th, 2004 10:59 AM

I live in Burnaby!

Frank Granovski March 8th, 2004 02:51 PM

I used to live there too, right across the street from Edmonds Station. (I'd never move there again, around Edmonds.) The Dear Lake area is nice, though.

Corey MacGregor March 8th, 2004 06:12 PM

I'm in east van

Ronald Lee March 8th, 2004 06:37 PM

Thats great there's so many of us. I should ask what it is that we do, if it is related to the videography industry.

Myself, I'm actually pursing feature films and TV, including documentaries, but will also be pursuing some video projects in the future. I'm about to get the PDX10.

Lighting kits

Could any one suggest a good local place to get a starter lighting kit?

Dylan Couper March 11th, 2004 07:32 PM

Buy or rent?

Rent: Lorne Lapham Sales and Rentals www.llsr.com

Buy? Hard to say. I got mine from LLSR, but seriously considerd some good deals on Ebay.

Saturnin Van March 16th, 2004 06:20 PM

van

yup..lower mainland here ......quite a few of us here from BC.. :D

Denny Lajeunesse March 19th, 2004 10:44 AM

Friend Of David Stone, Live in East Van near Commercial Drive.

Actually I have to move by May 1st. Looking for creative arts or indy film type people for roomates, so if you hear of anything, please let me know.

Maybe we should have a little DV-i vancouver meet for beers or coffee some time?

Denny

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 10:59 AM

I'm into a drink up.

I went to the local Screenwriters Meetup and it was woefully bad. Not because the company was bad but ... there were only TWO OF US!

David Stone March 19th, 2004 11:46 AM

I agree with Denny and Keith that a get together would be in order.

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 11:53 AM

Some place cheap that serves white wine and/or lots of coffee.

Ronald Lee March 19th, 2004 12:11 PM

I'm all for it.

Let's meet either at Subeez (Homer and Smith), a bread garden, or a large coffee shop (i.e. Blendz, at Hastings and Richards).

I'm good most of the time except for Mon and Wed nights for now.

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 12:14 PM

All those places are good for me.

My schedule is pretty clear after this week.

Ronald Lee March 19th, 2004 12:16 PM

Great, lets spread the word. I'm excited to meet as many people from here as possible. Lets say next week, perhaps Tues, around 6pm? Or anyone have any preferences? Thursday at 8pm? Friday???

David Stone March 19th, 2004 12:24 PM

Next Tuesday at 6pm is good for me. However, I work out in the boonies and would rather meet "in the middle", say Commercial drive or Burnaby location.

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 12:53 PM

Anywhere on the Drive is acceptable to me. Is the Wasubeez still there?

Ronald Lee March 19th, 2004 12:58 PM

I thought of Wasubeez, except that they have loud music....Keith, perhaps you can flex your biceps and tell them to turn it down when we meet?

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 01:12 PM

Yea loud music not so good ... hmmm ... there must be some large coffee shops around that area.

Scott Burbank March 19th, 2004 01:22 PM

I'm here in Burnaby

Scott

Corey MacGregor March 19th, 2004 01:39 PM

I'd be interested in meeting up next tuesday. How about Bukowski's on commercial?

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 01:43 PM

Depends how many commit. Bukowskis can be a bit cramped if you don't get the right table. It would have to be reserved, as well.

Corey MacGregor March 19th, 2004 02:03 PM

There's also Cafe Deux Soleils. They serve coffee, beer and at that time there should be plenty of room.

Dylan Couper March 19th, 2004 03:11 PM

what the hell...

I'm in.

I don't live downtown, but I'll vote for anywhere with big tables, and quiet so we can talk.

Keith, have you and I ever met up for anything except sushi when its a business meeting?

Denny Lajeunesse March 19th, 2004 03:31 PM

Tues. 6pm is fine with me too.

Wasubees doesn't always have loud music. Not sure if they do around 6pm though. Cafe Doux solei would be good. Beers better anyway.

If I had an idea how many of us there will be I could phone and ask if that number will be a problem. I live 2 block form Bukowskis and wasubees and 7 blocks from Cafe deux Solei (or is it "dis" solei.. whatever the one near 7th is, the north one is tiny) so any of those is good for me. :)

Denny

Ronald Lee March 19th, 2004 03:35 PM

Any of those places is fine.

Also consider if they will be busy with the dinner crowed (meaning less seats) around 6pm as well. Really, we can go anywhere and just tell them to turn the music down or well send Keith to tenderize them.

I'm into meeting more video people, and I'm going to bring some friends who are in the film industry or want to do video, as well.

David Stone March 19th, 2004 03:57 PM

Anywhere on Commercial Drive Tuesday at 6pm is OK by me. Just let me know where and I will be there.

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 06:31 PM

Any chance we can make it later than 6? Some people might have trouble making the commute during rush hower. How about 7?

Ronald Lee March 19th, 2004 07:25 PM

Now he says so...

Well 6-7pm is a good time frame to start a meeting. And then its to Keith's place for the *real* party.

Keith Loh March 19th, 2004 07:27 PM

How about a clean up party?

Dylan Couper March 19th, 2004 07:40 PM

<<<-- Originally posted by Keith Loh : How about a clean up party? -->>>

I guess I shouldn't tell them about your hot tub on the balcony, or Heidi and Marlena your roomates.

Ronald Lee March 19th, 2004 11:30 PM

You mean his dolls?, cough, I mean rooommaaates?

Dylan Couper March 21st, 2004 09:07 PM

So whats the final plan? Who is going? WHen? Where?
