RIP Bob Brookmeyer.
Sad to relate that one of the most soulful jazz valve trombonists Bobby Brookmeyer, passed away in New Hampshire USA on December 15 2011.
From his start with Tex Beneke's Band in 1952 he rose to fame with astounding speed, and in 1954 alone, held recording dates with Stan Getz, Chet Baker, and Gerry Mulligan in addition to his own band. Now, the front line of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet has gone. As a kid, Mulligans arangements on the famous Miles Davis 'Birth of the Cool' LP sparked me into listening within the music to study a bands internal balance and Mulligans baritone sax sound, into taking up the tenor sax for a few years. Many thanks guys, you were a great help with my production and recording career. I've still got all your recordings on CD, think I'll play them today. ------
