UWOL#63 "POSTCARD FROM THE MOUNTAINS THE VALLEYS AND FJORDS OF NORWAY" by Geir Inge

Hello Uwol participants.
In this video I have used the following camera equipment:
Sony PXW-FS5, GoPro 8, Canon EOS 5D Mark 3 and drone.
For editing, I used Davinci Resolve, which was completely new to me.
It's a powerful tool, but takes some time to get used to.
If there is anything you are wondering about in the video, just ask.
I welcome all your comments, feel free.

Great scenery and I think a few cross fades might make it look smoother Geir. And it reminds me of the Hurtigruten cruise we did in many of your fjords in a small passenger/cargo ship servicing all the settlements not accessible by road. One night I stayed up to watch a berthing at 3am. All the wharf lights were on but no one around. The side of the ship opened up and 2 fork lifts lifted their cargo ashore while it rained.

Side closed and we pushed off, the whole thing took 20 minutes while all the passengers slept.
Great experience, thoroughly recommended.
Cheers.

I assume you work for Norwegian tourism or you will be soon if they see your work! This is what a postcard is supposed to do -- show the beauty of a place and make people want to visit.

I thought your choice of music fit perfectly and your motorhome did a great job with the narration. You should be proud of him!

Still, the best part was that it was full of incredible scenes of such beauty that made me want to watch it more than once -- which I did! Even more, it made me want to visit Norway. I couldn't take my eyes off it as each new scene was so fantastic.

The drone shots worked especially well and blended nicely with the shots from the ground. They really emphasized the grandeur, majesty and immensity of Norway.

Hi Geir Inge,

Nice to see some of the places I have visited myself years ago.
Was wondering what happened to your voice, and then I read your description, haha.

A nice mix of mountains and fjords and the valleys in between.

(Ps, notice length of your films in the future. Keep it under 4,00 minutes plus credits)

Great job!

What breathtaking scenery! You really gave me a good idea of just how beautiful Norway is. Good pacing with the music. Like Paul, I've watched your entry several times. Inspiring beauty.

Hi Alan and thanks for your kind comments and tips.
So good that you have been to Norway and experienced my wonderful country.
You are probably referring to travel with Hurtigruten (Norwegian Coastal Express)
going between Bergen and Kirkenes (right on the border with Russia).
It is a very popular journey,
in summer you can experience the midnight sun (north of the Arctic Circle)
and in winter you can see the northern lights (Aurora Borealis).
It is like a combination of tourist ship and cargo ship.

Hi, Phil and thanks for the nice comments.
No, I don't work in the tourism industry,
but when you give me such good testimonials,
I'm considering looking for a new job 😊
It's the third time I've made VO with a twist,
I'll bring back the feedback to my RV.
I hope you get the opportunity to make the trip to Norway once,
then you must let me know.

Hi Trond and thanks for the comments.
Yes, I assume these areas were familiar to you.
And yes, my VO was somewhat darker than usual :)
This is the third time I use the voice as a third person.
The first time it was the voice of a boathouse,
the second time it was the voice of various beings
I met on my way in search for "The little things",
and now it was the voice of my motorhome.
I like to experiment with sound.

Hi Roger and thanks for the nice feedback.
Yes, I am very proud of my country
and my wife and I travel as often as we can in the motorhome.
Mostly in the southern part of Norway.
I hope you get the opportunity to make the trip to Norway sometime.
I had some challenges with my new editing program Davinci Resolve,
but will probably get around to it eventually.

Hi Trond, I see you've noticed my video exceeds the 4 minute limit.
If you remove the intro and outro text, it is actually under 4 minutes.
I didn't need to include the info about the drone,
but felt that since I use a lot of drones in my videos it's good to inform about the rules.
Nor is the info about Uwol and theme necessary.
If you think it should be disqualified, that's fine with me.

No sour faces for that reason :)

Geir, one of your best. your idea of using the RV as the host was brilliant. Yous visuals were very impressive, but then again you have some impressive country to work with. My wife is part Norwegian and has been pestering me to take her there. Looks like your video tilted the decision in her favor. How could I possible pass up visiting such a lovely country. I agree with Allan about using a few crossfades. I'm glad you included the rules for drones. The USA has instituted numerous regulations on where you can fly. Unfortunately, a few bad drone operators have caused the USA to ban drones from National Parks, wildlife refuges and other areas where wildlife and nature are at risk. The music coupled with your narration (sorry, the RV's narration) was perfect. I think you have a winner there. Safe travels to you, your wife and of course your RV. Bob

Hi Bob and thanks for your nice comments.
I did not know that your wife is partly Norwegian.
Do you know where in Norway she is related, or where her ancestry came from?
The emigration from Norway to the USA took place mainly in the years 1881-1930.
It was stories about the "promised land" that made people leave.
When it comes to drones, it is the same here in Norway, a few who destroy for the many.
I understand the tip about crossfades and want to adjust the video a bit.
I hope you take your wife to Norway sometime, and show her where her ancestry comes from.
You are both most welcome.

Geir, my wife said her grandfather's name was John Johnson, and he was from Trondheim in central Norway. He immigrated to the USA in the late 1920'S Bob

No disqualification. Just a friendly heads up about the 4 minute limit (excluding title and credits) since your film is 4.40.
As the guidelines says, please try to keep the credits less than 15-20 seconds, but we do not have a strict limit for the credits.
