Voice recorder for groom: recommendations?
I'm looking for suggestions for a voice recorder to capture the bride & groom's vows. I bought a Tascam DR-05 and a Sony UX533, thinking the small size of the Sony would be a great fit. Well, the sound on the Sony is lousy -- very hissy. The Tascam sounds beautiful, but I'm worried it may be a bit bulky. It is the same length and depth as the Zoom H1, but almost an inch wider. Am I being too fussy in worrying about the Tascam's size? What do you use?

Re: Voice recorder for groom: recommendations?
There have been a couple of threads on this same subject recently Bill, which you may find if you do a search. I have a Zoom H1, but having recently bought a couple of Sony ICD-PX312M recorders, they are quite a bti smaller than the Zoom and I now use them all the time. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-ICD-PX3...keywords=px312
I think the 'M' version with the Sony Lav included is only available in the UK, but it also works well with other lavs or plug in mics. It only has a mono onboard mic, and the recording is limited to MP3, but I find that this is excellent on the highest quality setting. There are 4 preset mic input levels plus a line audio level, which I find much quicker and easier than trying to set a manual level each time. I was dubious when I first tried one, as they are sold more as dictation machines, but have been very pleased with the results. At thae price I think they are unbeatable. Roger |

I just put together this using a RODE PINMic connected to 3 audio recorders I have. Check it out

Re: Voice recorder for groom: recommendations?
I just did my first wedding and used a Tascam DR-05 along with an Audiovox ATR-6550 lav mic. It came out acceptable, so far. I have a little more review still to do on it but soudns vastly superior to onboard mics on my dslr or the handycam i used.

An Audiovox ATR-6550? I'm not familiar with that and can't even Google it. Do you have a link?

Re: Voice recorder for groom: recommendations?
Forgive me, wrong name. It was a atr-3350.
http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica.../dp/B002HJ9PTO It's cheap no doubt and probably not for you pros in here but for a first time shooter like me using a crop sensor camera and borrowing other cameras it was about all I could other than stick with a on camera Rode which wouldn't have been nearly sufficient. I was pairing with a DR-05 so no XLR inputs available for me either. I just put the thing in the grooms pocket and away it went. |

Ah, yes I am familiar with that! The only thing I don't like is the 20' long cable. You managed to fit that and the DR-05 in the groom's pocket and he didn't find it too bulky?

Re: Voice recorder for groom: recommendations?
Yeah I had some velcro straps and had tied up the cable ahead of time. It was sort of bulky but luckily not noticeable under his jacket. So it worked out pretty well.
