Lav mics for recorders

Hi all - last year mid season I purchased 2 of these Pronomic mics to use with my Sony audio recorders and they sounded great, seemed very well engineered and were a good price

Pronomic LA-30 EA Lavalier Microphone Universal Black: Amazon.co.uk: Musical Instruments

Unfortunately they have both failed now with occasional spikes when the cable is moved. I look after my stuff so as far as I'm aware the cables haven't been stretched, even re-soldering 2 Nutrik 3.5mm plugs onto the cables hasn't worked so I'm thinking very poor quality cables.

So I'm on the hunt again and currently having to use my Sennheiser ME-2 for micing up the groom, I'm not keen on this as the connector is a 3.5mm locking one and never seems to be in far enough as a regular 3.5mm jack so I make sure it's taped down as well, maybe I'm being over cautious.

What lavaliers are you guys currently using that's proved reliable for non-wireless setups?

Pete

I LOVE my matchstick microphone. About $130. Tiny, tiny, tiny (the brides don't even see it on the groom, 90% of the time). Has held up well. Quality is very respectable.

Now that looks a good option - need to find a UK supplier otherwise a bit too expensive - after postage and import duties around £220!

Pete, try getting it direct

MM Audio - The Next Generation of Pro Audio Equipment

Shipping is only $20, it was a little slow but better than B&H's one (high) price fits all !

I use the Sony ECMCS3 Clip style Omnidirectional Stereo Microphone. Would need a cable to extend it since it's kind of short, but I love it. :)

Pete these are great, see reviews and had them two years and bashed around, just make sure they are not to near the mouth when on the speeches as they get a little hot, other than that excellent.

Cheers Steve - that sounds good - funnily enough I looked at a review yesterday and wondered about that one

Re: Lav mics for recorders

When not using my G3, I have 2 options for my pocket audio recorder -

Rode Lavalier Microphone Omni Directional Lapel Mic at Gear4Music.com

and...

Rode PinMic Long Lavalier/Lapel Microphone - Nearly New at Gear4Music.com

The latter is good when I'm asked to place a mic discreetly. I tried it on my suit and thepins don't make much impact on the material. No more than flowers.

One thing I had to buy a 3.5 jack adapter, but I can use it for both.

I bought one on the strength of that review for use with a Zoom H1 - well pleased with it for the money.
