Importing AVCHD into Vegas 8

I am running the Vegas 8 trial (Build 179). I cannot get it to import the AVCHD files from my Sony HDR-CX7 camcorder. I have copied the files from the camera using the Picture Motion Browser as the Vegas help file instructs.

In fact, Vegas will not allow me to drag and drop AVCHD or MPG files copied from the camera. I can drag AVI files to the timeline or project media window with no problems, however.

Is there some extra step to prepare files from the camera to be accepted by Vegas 8?

The error I get when I try to drag and drop says:

"None of the files dropped on Vegas Pro could be opened."

Thanks!

I'm no expert on Vegas 8, but it seems like that would have something to do with it being a trial version. I know that in early trial versions of Vegas, some video formats were restricted, and if they were continuing to do that, it would only make sense that they would do that with AVCHD. Hope this helps.

I drop MP4 files from my Xacti into the Vegas 8 build 179 timeline all the time. I'm not sure if these are the same as AVCHD - it's a H.264 codec.

So I know that V8 works with other files that not Sony, and I was told that originally SONY files were the only ones in this format that Vegas was dealing with. Maybe it is the trial thing.
