Hi all who answered, I eventually burnt to DVD and all looks ok except a small section of footage you can see squares moving as the camera pans. Thanks for all your help Vegas far out weighs Premiere for user ability if you are new to dvd production.

Variable bitrate 8,000. I'll burn it and see what it looks like on a TV. Thanks

It's not a question of what folks agree on, I have to chuckle at the opinions I see on this. (nothing meant directed at you, Rob)
Take a SMPTE test pattern on the Vegas timeline. Turn it black and white with either desaturation or the b/w filter. Render to DV. View on external monitor. Which color (original color space, now B/W) shows brightest/contains the most luminance? Green. With DV compression, you need as much information as possible. Green provides this without hitting colors common in daily wear/use. Moreover, due to the way that DV compresses, it's also a pixel and information thing. Vegas upsamples to 4;4;4 on keys, but you still need as much info as possible for the upsample. A good greenscreen free of shadows (wrinkles are ok if no shadows) and good, 3 way lighting is critical. I don't agree with Jackman's method, but it works. It's just extra, unnecessary work. There are several tutorials on this subject on the Sundance site if you care to look. Roughly 50% of our corporate work is done in front of a hard green cyc or a greenscreen. With Vegas in particular, pulling a key is easy on most any semi-consistent color, but green nearly always provides the cleanest key of all due to informational content. Learning to light it right is more important than the color of the screen. |
The folks at RSVP seem a little ticked off.

Hi,
Tried to run this script on some PAL footage, no great result :-) Every other frame was NTSC 24P format and the other frames PAL format... added some extra ACID feeling to the video. Best regards, Lazze |
PAL shouldn't need this script. You're already at 25fps. This is pretty much an NTSC source only script.

I should say so. Looks like they can no longer sell Vegas and are promoting a competitor. They were where I got my copy and were strong promoters of Vegas when it was mostly an afterthought.
Nice work Magnus! |
According to a post by Sony, Canada distribution is still in the process of being worked out.

Vegas + DVD question.
Hello, I just bought a DVX100A and have decided to make the switch from Premiere to Vegas. I just order Vegas+DVD and it should be here tommorrow, but I have a few questions.
I already have the latest "demo" version of Vegas 4.0e and DVD 1.0 on my PC. I know that the "demo" version of Vegas is actually the complete program and you just need to enter the serial number when given this option. Is the "demo" download of DVD 1.0 the full version including the AC3 encoder also? Do I need to install any thing at all from the original disks or just simply enter the serial numbers for both applications and edit away? Sorry if these seem like dumb questions but I just wanted to make sure now so that I do not run into any problems later. Any advice would be greatly apprectiated. Joe |
Just enter the serial numbers in both programs and you'll be up and running.
|
Expect to have to register online to get an authentication code which will make the apps run beyond a shorter initial period.
Also, expect to register Vegas and DVDA separately. Can't remember if this goes for the Dolby encoder as well. But don't worry - it's all plain sailing. |
Your guys rock. Thank you very much for the quick replies.

Variable bitrate uses at least two numbers, the average bitrate
and the max bitrate, sometimes min as well. I'm assuming 8000 is the max? It's a tad high for average. |

Equiv. of FCP Audio Sync Tool for the DVX100?
Hi all,
Browsing older posts for the DVX100 I noticed a thread discussing the handling of the camera's approx. two frame sync issue and how Final Cut Pro handles it, which is with a plug-in available on the FCP install disk. Is there the equivilent plug in available for Vegas? If not, what's the best way to sync adjust this cam within the Vegas environment? |
You mean syncing audio to external preview? You can adjust that sync in Options - Preferences.

DVDA, Blank device and speed menu's?
Hello all, I had hoped that my first post would be a more positive one but; I'm trying to burn my first menu based DVD and I had no problems putting it together. Bummer was that I burned onto a DVD+R that will not play on any of my 3 DVD players but plays fine on my PC of course. So I read that DVD-R's seem to be more compatible to most home players so I rushed out & bought a 5 pk of DVD-R's but now when I get to the Select Burn Parimeters window the Device and the Speed drop menu's are blank and not selectable which will not allow me to click finish.
Is this being caused by the media I bought? To see what I am seeing I ran across the same screen capture in Douglas Spotted Eagle's book on page 364, example 11.42. Up till this point the whole V4, NLE, DVD thing has been a breeze, I hope it is just me being an idiot (is it plugged in?). Thanks in advace. Shane |
Vegas MPEG2 render settings for MyDVD?
Please help. I've searched for other threads discussing MPEG2 encoding from Vegas and compatibility with various DVD authoring software. This hasn't answered my specific concern.
From Vegas, I rendered using the DV NTSC setting to create the MPEG2 file. Once rendered this file plays fine in Windows Media Player. When I try to burn the DVD using Sonic MyDVD, the program cancels during the writing phase and gives an error message stating the file is not a valid MPEG2 file. I use Memorex DVD+R media and have tried Fuji DVD+RW with the same results. I was previously able to render a working copy of this same project (I hadn't inserted titling tracks) and burn a DVD using the same settings. I suspect something in the rendering settings produces a file not compatible with the video DVD standards or at least not compatible with what MyDVD requires. Any help is appreciated. Joseph |
What make and model burner do you have?
Some will not see certain media. Check to see what the mfgr. says about media for your burner. Don |
Your best bet for MyDVD is to render to AVI in Vegas and then import to MyDVD (get movies icon or control G) and let it bring the avi in and convert it. That should solve the problem.

Batch Capture 2 questions?
Hi,
1. - What is wrong?: Iīve been trying to do a Batch Capture but the batch capture button on the menu doesnīt activate. It stays gray... I think Iīm doing every step the way Iīm suppossed to.. Itīs not that hard of a process... ?ŋ? 2. - Is there a script or anyway to do a batch capture from a text file or a XLS? or anything to avoid going clip by clip? |
The Plextor PX-708A, I checked out Plextor's compatability page after I posted this question and found that both brands of DVD-R I tried to burn were not on their list (Sony & Memorex).
Now the Maxell DVD+R I burned, DVDA did recognize but it will not play on my set-top players (All picky Toshiba models btw). I had also read on the Sony forums that most people consider the Memorex's as garbage but at least they did not lock up my PC like the Sony disc did. I upgraded the firmware on the Plextor and that stopped the Sony DVD-R from locking up my PC but DVDA still will not recognize it. Thanks Don Shane |
Did the mfg site list any DVD-R's or is the burner strictly DVD+R,
also, some DVD players just won't play certain media. I have 4 DVD players and 1, which happens to be the fanciest as well as the oldest (about 2 1/2 years old) won't read any of my DVD-R's but all the others including another by the same mfr as the other player reads anything I put into it. Goofy! Good Luck, Don |
Supposedly it will burn +, -, RW, I just hope it doesn't burn my toast...
|
Can you explain, exactly what you are doing to Batch capture? A greyed out button isn't good.
Grazie |
Take a look at issue #5 of my newsletter http://www.jetdv.com/tts
Basically, it will remain grayed out if: 1) You haven't logged a clip 2) You don't have device control enabled. |
I just tried my third brand of media, a TDK 2X and DVDA will not reconize this disc also. TDK is on Plextor's compatability list.
This is getting rather frustrating. Just how picky is DVDA? Can I use another burning program (Roxio, Nero), to burn the Audio_TS and Video_TS files that DVDA prepared? Thanks again. Shane |
WOW !!!!
Thanks a bunch Edward. There is only one cloud left in the sky now , How can I be certain that I am on or not on the track header. Thanks Phil |
Depends on the way you went about adding the effect. If you right clicked/ clicked the fx button/ or dragged an effect from the effects palette at the bottom into your clip then the effect is on the clip level.
To apply the effect to the entire track you have to click on the fx button in the track header or drag the effect from the effects palette on to the track header. |
I almost always click on the FX button to add an effect. If I click on the button on the clip, I KNOW the effect is at the clip level. Same if I click on the effect button on the track header. If you drag the effect, just make sure you drag it to the right place.
|
In my experience, DVDA has not been picky at all. I have an A03 so I'm limited to "-" media but it has worked with a couple different brands.
As for using another program to burn, yes that is very doable. Just add the Audio_TS and Video_TS folders created by DVDA into the other program and tell it to burn the DVD. I have, on occasion, used Prassi PrimoDVD to burn the folders created by DVDA but now use DVDA to burn almost all the time. |
Oddly enough I find myself dragging the effect from the effects palette the the clip- not that I need the animated references for the various effects. Maybe a left-over habit from my Premiere days. lol
|
OK, I tried one last time with the TDK in DVDA and it actually let me choose the device this time but the drive speed window was empty. I clicked 'finish' anyway and I got an, "Error 0x8004e0c8" which I am assuming is the missing speed setting.
So, I burned the _TS folders on the TDK disc with Roxio 6 and it worked fine. It plays in 2 of my 3 DVD players, the third being a first gen Toshiba that I didn't expect to play in anyway, whew! I bet it's my Plextor being picky & not DVDA. It sure was gratifying to see the finished DVD on my 36" TV. Thanks Don & Ed! Shane |
Edward, thanx for your help... but I think I have logged the clips, and I think I have a device control enabled.
So Iīll write every step of what Iīm doing to see if you see something I canīt. 1.- Open VEgas 2.- FILE -> CAPTURE VIDEO 3.- Name my tape, donīt capture clips now (DEVICE STOPPED) 4.- go to ADVANCED CAPTURE Device works just fine... I can control the cam from Video Capture with no problem. Can set in and outs.. capture them.. play them, go to specific timecode.. etc.. 5.- Select Timecode IN and OUT. 6.- Push LOG IN/OUT button. (the clip name on top changes to TAPENAME - Clip 001 and so). 7.- Repeat 5 and 6 as as many times as needed. 8.- TRANSPORT -> ADVANCED CAPTURE... and.... BATCH CAPTURE is grey. No batch capturing for me... Iīm using a XM2, just in case there is an issue there. And reasking a little here.. Is there anyway to use a Text file or XLS or something to do a batch capture, without having to type in, or select each clip to capture???? |
Sounds like you are doing things right. However, I don't understand step #8. As soon as you are done with #7 is when I hit Batch Capture.
|
Good to hear you have a working DVD!
|
DOH!
Never mind... my mistake, it must have been my younger years of excess passing a bill on whatīs left of my brain...
Iīve been using VEGAS for more than a few months now, and I didnīt know there was a CLIP EXPLORER option on VIDEO CAPTURE... And I also didnīt have the AUTOMATIC MARK FOR BATCH CAPTURE thing selected... Mental notes: "F1 is my friend"... "Some people spend many hours making the help files.. SO JUST READ IT".... So thanx for your help.. I got it covered now.. you could just delete this thread and save me some public humilliation... One last thing.. What about the magic thing that will let me use a text file or a xls file to do the batch capture withou marking ins and outs manually? |
i've been having similar issues. i use nero to burn my DVDs after DVD-Arch preps it on a folder. but if i use DVD-Arch itself to burn anything, it's all blank, won't burn. i have the liteon ldw-451s DVD burner. i mostly use DVD-R.

Not Recognizing 24p
Hey I have had Vegas for a half a year and i cannot figure out How come when i capture some of my video off my AG-DVX100 it tells me my video was captured in 29 frames a second instead of 24 or sumthing like that. Why is that? Is the picture degrading because of it?
|
Any Plug-ins?
I am wondering how come there are not many plug-ins for Vegas. I have not seen any type of after affects or any special prgram as a plug in for Vegas. Sonic Foundry or shall i say sony has not created any type of after affects program thing for vegas 4.0. Why is that?
