Avid MXF and Vegas
No, it is not on same pc, but can install Vegas on same pc if need be.
thanks for reply |
You might want to visit avid.com and get the avid codecs. I am not sure this will help but it is the only shot other than rendering out quicktimes in Avid.

Letterbox to 4:3 and 16:9
I shot in letterbox mode and need a full resolution, uncompressed file, in 4:3 without the bars. Also need a full res, uncompressed 16x9 version. I did a search, but found nothing. Anyone know how I can do it easily?
Thanks. |
I believe that this is a "Disk Drive Overheating" issue.
Ben, how are you cooling your drives? I have some external drives 750gb external SATA drives which run very hot. Try cooling your drives better and this will probably go away. Today, I forgot to turn on a fan which I use to cool a 750gb Seagate drive. After the drive got very hot, the timeline showed red squares instead of the footage. Then I noticed that I did not have the fan on, and my drives were very hot. I save the Vegas project, turned on the fan, restarted Vegas and everything worked normally. I did not have to reboot my computer. |
You can also shot an inquiry to Sony Support. It took a while, but Sony Engineering eventually supplied me with 3 *.dll files that brought my NEC to life within Sony. This was about a year ago, with a brand new Alienware dual core blah blah blah. It really took me by surprise when the NEC wasn't seen. I used the Nero workaroung discussed above until it got sorted out. Darryl

Need help from VASST
It tried to use Double Take and just ended up with a mess, I think it didn't work because my first track is not continuous. Either way, I deleted all my markers that I had used for DT, but then I still have the 'diagonal preview' I need help with figuring how to get rid of it. I'm using Vegas 6, the latest version
Update: Well, it was kinda 'back yard mechanichy', but I fixed it by going into everyone of my clips and reseting the pan/crop. For what ever reason DT failed for me. I'll just do the two multi-cam by hand on this project. |
Video in box on video?
Help,.. how do you size a video to fit in a box on top of the video that is showing. Example showing a video over someones shoulder while they are talking about it.
|
Put the video you want to inset PIP on the top track with your main video below. Use track motion to move the PIP where you want it to be.
Edward Troxel has a newsletter that describes how to do this. |
Will be at IBC 2006
I will be at IBC Amsterdam september 9 and 10, any other
Vegas-heads in attendance who are up for a beer? Email helander at fastmail dot fm Any highly recommended booths other than Sony's and Panny's? /magnus |
I've used DT on a couple of projects... it can get quirky but really that's is always my fault (I get lost with which take I'm using and such and there isn't any real indicator).
you need to have it on 2 tracks (they don't have to be continuous)... they have to be uniquely named... I think that's really it... follow the guide it should work and it's pretty handy. |
Yeah, it created a new track ,but things were all out of whack. And the second track didn't fill in all the way. Then when I deleted the master track and all the markers, I still had the preview. It was about 3 hours of wasted edit time.
|
I'm pretty sure it was an overlooked user error... if you don't have continous footage on a track then you need to make sure that you are switching to the other camera for that segment of time or their will be blanks.
Yeah undo'ing all those pan and crops could be a pain in the ass... but it's much more work to do it all by yourself than letting this thing do all the edits for you... unless it's not that long of a project... but then undoing a few pan and crops aren't that big of a deal then ;) |
Yeah, I'm sure it was my other personality that got in the way which caused my user error.
I'll give her another whirl on my next project. Thanks for the comments. |
Yeah, just try with this project once it's done... make you a save and revert back to it just for the hell of it.
I always increment versions of my saves so I have something to go back to anyway (which would have saved you from unpanning and cropping the DT stuff ;) |
Thanks!! Problem solved.
|
Please continue the talk in the already existing IBC thread:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=73607 Of course RED is at IBC, do check them out. And two nights (sunday & monday) there is a digital movie being shown in the dcinema. I always enjoy hanging out in hall 7 with all the color correction and effects packages etc. |
fx envelope won't work
it just stays at 0dB even if i add points and change the value. do I have to click something else? or is it because my project is in 5.1?

What Video File for Internet
I have video clip about 6 min (DV AVI) and I want to send it to my friend trough the internet. What video file should I encode for that. Someone told me that I have to render the AVI file to WMV (Windows Media Video). I found that option in Vegas but I don't know in what resolution or bitrate to render. My friend told me that I should send him the video file which can be played in "Real Player".
Regards. |
You'll then need to find an encoder that will render to .rm which is Real Media format. I know that Real Producer was a program from Real Player which rendered to .rm format, and you could change the size etc. So if your consumer, 'your friend', needs .rm then find an encoder that will do it. Sometimes you can find a piece of software that has little cost, but make sure it's worth the money, such as being able to encode various formats.

Working with Layers
Is it possible working with layers in Vegas 6. For example is it possible mixing two wideo clips, first main one, with peoples portrait for example and second one simulating background (like chroma effect), but not to use Cokie cutter.
Regards. |
Yes it is. You can create masks in many different ways. For some ideas, you might want to look at the "Ways to Split Screen" article in Vol 3 #1 of my newsletters and the "Bezier Masks" article in Vol 3 #3.
|
After you pick the type of file you wish to render to, you then pick the preset you want to use. Try two or three different ones until you find the file size/quality combination that suits you.
Vegas can create Real files that you can send to your friend. Just be aware that if you're putting it on your website for anyone to view, there are LOTS of people that won't load "Real" on their machines. WMV is more widely accepted. |
my mistake Edward
I forgot, (and can't look while at work #1) to check to see that Vegas does render .rm.
|
Thanks....

Masking
Hello I did a quick search and couldn't find the info I was looking for. Maybe someone has asked this question befroe I'm not sure but I'm working on a project where I'm masking the individual on the screen. I've outlined them and layered their image on another. Whn I masked it the edges were to sharp and I wanted to soften them up. I used the soft edge but that only softens in the form of a box. I would like to soften the edge of the individual. (kind of what we see in some interviews or commercials) Thanks for any help. I'm usng Vegas 6d

I convert my 4:3 videomaterial to 16:9 dvd with Vegas for my movie projects and get good results:
1. create a 16:9 project in Vegas 2. import the 4:3 video and put in on the timeline 3. rightclick on the video on the timeline and check Switches: make sure the Maintain Aspect Ratio option is not marked 4. add the widescreen letterboxing to the video, using the Pan/Crop tool for each videosegment; with the Pan/Crop tool you have some vertical headroom to choose the best widescreen framing within the 4:3 video 5. after editing, render the timeline to an 16:9 Widescreen MPEG2 file. Make sure you use the Best Quality setting, the Variable Bitrate and 2 Pass options for best quality. Hope this is of any help. |
Matrox parhelia cards will do three monitors. I use one with Vegas and premier 1.5 and it serves well.
|
If you want to use two monitors for the program and a third to view your "output" video, you could attach a deck or camera via firewire to your computer, and attach the third monitor to it via S-video.
|
If you install two dual-output video cards, then you can run Vegas on 4 monitors. I currently use this setup.
Use the same brand for both to prevent problems with software. |
DVD-A Changing background media as menu selected
This is probably really basic but i can't quite get my head round it.
I want a simple menu - eg "Film 1", "Film 2", "Film 3" I want to display in ONE area a picture (still or video) which changes as the user moves onto each menu item. So - if they pick Film 1 - a clip or still will show from Film 1, if they highlight Film 2 a clip will show IN THE SAME LOCATION as where the Film 1 clip showed. So it's not a clip above each menu item - it's ONE area on screen that will change depending on what is highighted. Thanx Ian |
Rendering out in HD/SD - sizes?
I am presently matching up some 3D animations with HD footage in Vegas. I realised that I am going to need to figure out the best way to render this before I go and create the 3D stills to match up with the video...
So my question is, what format should I output as? It is going to DVD and I am going to keep the letter boxing from the HD footage as I like the cinematic feel of it. I remember reading that HD downgrades to SD and has a nice look to it, so what should I be rendering out as? (I need to start rendering out stills from the video to match up with some 3D shots). Thanks |
trimmer ?
Can you have two trimmers open at one time?
Thanks Vince Vegas 5 |
Quote:
Nope. An alternative workflow is to have two instances of Vegas open, and use one as a "trimmer" and copy/paste from that instance to the other |
Thanks... good idea

Batch render script for version 6?
Hi, I bought this script called Batch Render Pro from rmtools.se, a guy named Roger a year or so back. Just tried to install it and says it only works with ver 5 of Vegas...Does anyone know if there's a batch render script for version 6? Thanks so much =)

Missing audio - just some but not all?!
I was rendering out a video for mov and mp4 in Vegas on my laptop which is XP. It works just fine. I brought the video into my FTP program which is on a separate computer that is running Windows ME.
Now here is the problem. When I run the video in WinME (either MOV or mp4) the strangest thing happens - the background music is working but the audio from the actor speaking parts is not there!!! I don't understand how part of the audio is there, but the other part is not when it is the same file! The AVI and WMV are working fine as well, it is just the .mov and .mp4 files that this strange problem of missing audio is happening./ Any ideas? Well, I figured it out. Apparently .mov and mp4 doesn't like mono audio for some reason. I copied the channel and swapped it and it works. |
I use a tool called Multirenderer, part of the Veggie Toolkit from Peachrock Production, there's a V5 and V6 version both for the one price. I use it daily
Here ya go: http://www.peachrock.com/software/veggie-toolkit.html It does more than just batch render BTW, you can add overlays during rendering, create render templates. |
AC3 sometimes rerenders in DVD Architect?
I can't figure out why DVD Architect insists on rendering my AC3 audio file in a current project. In the prepare DVD screen it says the file is compliant and will not be compressed.
I haven't seen this behavior on previous projects. Usually the create DVD process zips through the first 4 or 5 steps so fast I don't even see what they are, and then goes on to writing the large VOB files which of course takes some time. The video and audio are 97 minutes long (I've had no problems even larger ones before) and the MPG2 was rendered at 5500 kbps, giving a project total file size of 4.3 Gig. |
If you've got something checked in your prefs, or if you have an MPEG audio stream, or if the file is too large, DVDA will want to recompress the audio (or video)
You might have a default checked, or perhaps you've rendered AC3 audio, but your pref is set to PCM audio? |
