GoPro Vegas fix

A couple of months ago, someone posted, I think it was on this site, a simple fix for playback of GoPro Hero Black 3 files on the Vegas timeline that stopped stuttering and allowed the files to play back smoothly.
It worked perfectly but I can't recall what the process was and I have since ghosted my PC and am back at square one.
I should have written it down at the time.
Can anyone remember the fix?

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

Never had an issue with GoPro footage. What version of Vegas are you using?

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

I'm using Vegas 12 but I have found the answer was looking for and hopefully, it may help others. Here is the original post from another site....

"I had a bit of time today to look into what is going on. Some users noted that these 1080-60p GoPro files play well in VP11. I got both VP11 32&64bit versions, reinstalled it on my Win7x64 machine and yes, the file plaid well; 59.94fps at Best/Full. I then used a program to monitor the API interface and dll that is called upon when playing the file back. The dll in question is "mc_dec_avc.dll" at this location "C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 12.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\compoundplug" I then copied the file from VP11 64bit over to VP12 and voila it plays at 59.94fps Best/Full!
if you don't have VP11 64bit here is a link to the dll https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...mc_dec_avc.dll Do not delete or overwrite the original VP12 dll but rather rename it; just in case. I haven't done any further studies but I did render it out and that worked well too."

I hope that helps.

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

I had the playback issue as well with Vegas 12 with my Gopro 3+ Black edition footage ..
After upgrading to Vegas 13 the issue went away...

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

Are you running the native gopro files through Cineform or Gopro Studio first?

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

I never found native gopro files to work well in Vegas.
Make avi with cineform or GoPro studio and its buttery smooth.

From what I understand (learnt from this forum), CC works better with avi than the compressed gopro files.

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

Cedric, that's the whole point of my post. Original gopro footage was not smooth but just by replacing that
dll file fixes that and gives you smooth playback. No having to convert everything you shoot on gopro. It took two minutes to do so that has to be a better alternative.

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

Hi Chris

My GoPro MP4 files run perfectly in Vegas too. Never had an issue so I really cannot see any point in transcoding??

BTW: When are you visiting us down under ??

Re: GoPro Vegas fix

I see, will give the fix a go. Transcoding is a bit of a pain but no big issue
