Re: Are commonly available materials fire-proof?
In general natural materials are less of a fire hazard than man made ones.
Sure everything will burn or melt however the biggest danger with a fire is not the fire but the toxic fumes.
With...

Re: Trim levels
This setting in the EX1 refers to input sensitivity, ideally that value is relative to 0dBm.
The two physical level controls then adjust gain relative to that. Optimally you adjust the input...

Re: Comer LBPS 1800 problem
I suspect the batteries are not being drained as such. There's a lot of energy stored in those batteries and for it all to be drained at once smoke and fire would likely be involved.
What those...

Re: EF vs MFT version
One downside to not using all the glass is you're simply wasting light.
That's the thinking behind the Metabones Speed Booster.

Re: Desisti "Rembrandt" 12K HMI
Using a SI2K to test a 12K, that could lead to some confusion :)
That test does seem to show how useful such a light is. A big light source far away looks different to a smaller light source close...

Re: ex1r or pmw200?
We're now in possesion of two PMW 200s so I've had a bit of time to look and play with the camera.
I can see the 200 not lasting 2 years.
The vents on the top of the camera seem carefully...

Re: Shall I order the Comer 1800 V2 ?
I'm very happy with the original 1800 on my EX1.
Weight for me is less of a problem as I power the light from the camera battery. If that's not an option I'd suggest the 950 rather than the 970...

Re: new PMW-200: fatal (for me) flaw
I can only add my own opinion and say I too find the removal of the rotating handgrip is a very bad mistake on Sony's part. A few weeks ago the pawl that latches the handle in place snapped on mine....

Re: TC over HDMI - when?
The difference in the TC between the camera and the Nano is probably not such a big issue. Having to press the record button on the Nano is an issue.

Re: Crocolis HD
I bought one of these and it is excellent value for money.
A few things that the Techmoan review gets wrong or doesn't cover.
The charge indicator does work as expected, it takes a bit more than 2...

Re: TC over HDMI - when?
I was about to resurrect my old thread to ask the same question :)
Now that we're here, another question. The FS100 also does "RGB" over HDMI, does anyone know what this is and if it's...

Re: Rode NTG-3 versus Sanken CS 1E
I've got a Sanken CS-1 on my EX1. Bought the proper K-Tek mount for it.
I like the shorter length of the CS-1 compared to the other shotguns when it comes to an on camera mic.
I bought the CS-1...

Timecode from HDMI
It appears that Sony's NXCAM such as the NEX-FS100 will output timecode in a private data packet to the HDMI port.
Are there any plans for a future firmware upgrade to enable the Nano to read this...

Re: Comer 1800 or Ikan Multi-K?

Re: Bad KiPro drive?
We've had similar problems. Our 500GB drive caused major grief in an OB van and the 250GB was fine.
Investigation showed the problem was due to the rectangular hole that the latching pin engages...

Re: Lightmaker 6,000/12,000watt ballast
I'd expect a reasonable gap in a lamp of that power. I don't think the gap widens with use, the gas wears out. The CT also drops with use so it's pretty easy to judge when the lamp is on its last...

Re: Lightmaker 6,000/12,000watt ballast
Red wire is traditionally active and black neutral as you've guessed.
Transposing them should make no difference to the functioning of the device. On the other hand it could make a difference to the...

Seems to me that part of the problem is simple physics.
I shoot stage events at the long end of the lens and have used Miller's Compass and Arrow tripods and heads.
Once significant source of...
