I talked to Red Giant Software, the makers of Magic Bullet, and they told me that Magic Bullet for Editors version 2 (shipping Oct 9th) will support GPU rendering.
This means that if you have an appropriate video card (for example, an nVidia 6x or 7x series card), then the Magic Bullet plug-in will use the processing power of the GPU on the video card to render the effect. This will cause a DRAMATIC increase in performance! Check out http://redgiantsoftware.com/mbe2whatsnew.html for more information. Here's the information that I received from Red Giant tech support: You are correct; the optimization for Sony versus Premiere Pro is ridiculous in Sony's favor right now due in part to how our API is written and how the computing algorithms are processed through each platform, however we are in the midst of releasing Magic Bullet Editors 2.0 with GPU optimization/capabilities. Our tests have been extremely positive in the Premiere Pro environment. If you have a GPU card the "choppiness" in Premiere is eliminated at almost any size or mode. Multiple stacks of Look Suite sans MisFire blaze in preview mode and render output is nth times faster depending on card and hardware setup. Check out our website-- redgiantsoftware.com over the next couple of weeks to demo the new version. |
I've had similar (but not exactly the same) problems in Premiere. Fixed it by adding a audio track under the black. Just set the volume to 0 db. Not sure where I found out about the fix but it's apparently a known issue in PP.

Premiere Pro 1.5.1 to WMV-HD Workflow?
Hi,
Could someone outline the process to create a WMV-HD file from a 1080 60i project on the Premiere Pro timeline? I am using the IOData DVD Player that handles WMV-HD. |
Pat! That's ingenius! Let me figure out how to set mine up like you. By the way, of all the scratch disk locations, which are the best to combine?
Should I save Video Captures and Audio Captures to one disk and Video Previews and Audio Previews both to another disk and Conformed Audio to it's very own disk? Or Audio Previews and Video Previews each to their own separate disks? I ask this to free up some drives to set up for RAID as per Pat. |
Dvx100a 24p/24p advance premiere pro 1.0 support?
I currently edit on premiere pro 1.0 not 1.5 and haven't been able to find out much about it's 24p support vs. premiere pro 1.5. Im ordering a dvx100a sometime early next week and need to know If im going to have to update my software as well. So any information on this would be greatly appreciated, does 1.0 support 24p advanced?...just 24p? or neither? again, thank you for any information on this at all.
I also was wondering if it will be able to do a real 24p timeline so If I put 30p footage into it it would be slowed down a little? I shoot action sports often and was hoping to be able to add 30p footage into the timeline to get a little true slow motion. -Jake |
You can output directly from PP, using the
File/Export/ADobeMediaencoder and then picking wMV from the combo box. After doing severaltrials, i found that this does not easily gives you enough control on the various Size/compression parameters. And Deinterlacing seems weak too. So now I use the following workflow: a/ I first output an avi file using File/movie and selecting "settings" for the Cineform codec , and asking ( in the Keyframe and Rendering panel) for deinterlacing at this stage. When you feel secure that this is what you want, b/ produce all the various format i need for a given footage. for instance Hidef 1920*1080 WMV, MidDef 1280*720 WMV, SD DVD mpeg2, Divx, etc... You can use the free Windows Media encoder, or ( better but 50 bucks..) use the TMPGENc Express front end, with the ability to batch all these jobs. or the Canopus Procoder.. Globaly i find the result significantly better and much more flexible...You can also trim the project safely and keep the avi just in case some faster/better codec emerges ... |
Thanks Pierre,
I have found that when I try to export to wmv-hd using Adobe Encoder from Premiere, I get an error message about the audio quality being too low (it's the standard audio captured from DVCAM). So do I understand correctly - are you outputting an AVI using the Cineform codec and then using TMPGEnc to do the AVI to WMV-HD conversion? |
audio-video sync is the reason that you put a black leader on in front of the dvd video clip, so it's not just pp... i should have mentioned the blank audio as part of it, thanks for bring it up.
it's been awhile since i looked at dvd lab pro, but there was a lot of talk about adding an ac3 encoder to the package. |
Petr,
I second Dan's suggestion about using DVD Lab pro. You can download it for free for 30-days use from mediachance.com. If you do, don't forget to also download the 3rd-party plug-in DVD burning program. Both programs are fully functional. I think thier site also has info. about an AC-3 encoder that is a plug-in although I use PCM audio. DVD Lab pro works in a logical pattern. Menu creation is a snap. Import of assets (video, audio and stills) works very well. But the most important thing is it worked for me with absolutely no faults and produced great dvds which were DVD compliant and ready for replication. Regards, Mark |

When you use the "direct route " you might be willing to selct another Audio codec than the standard one...but anyhow the output is just worse.. |
Thanks for your replys. I ended up using "Click to DVD" which came installed on my Vaio laptop and it worked fine. I had not been using it due to a problem quite a while ago but this time it worked perfect!

premiere + 24p & 60i-will it ever work togther?
does anyone know if the next version of premiere pro will be compatible with 24p & 60i footage on the same timeline?? Unless i'm missing somthing as of now its not to friendly.
Also, is there a good way to speed up 24footage so it doesnt look like crap? Or is that the 24p curse :D cheers |
After rendering, the sequence plays
How do I turn this feature off in Premiere? Thanks!
|
Go to Edit>Preferences>General and uncheck "Play work area after rendering previews."
|
Chris, man you are fast with the answers, you might think that all this stuff is easy, but your help is most apprecitaed. I knew the answer to that one, but you seem to always know the PP stuff fast. Thanks for the quick ones. That kind of stuff can drive a person crazy
|
Always glad to help!
|
i would suggest going out to the microsoft wmv-hd website, and taking a look at some of the encoding training materials that they have posted... there is a nice little video clip out there that covers the options with the free wmv encoder, using an avi source file.

black screen, HELP!
Mike,
Been swamped and continually trying to solve the problem. I found out I have a nividia 5200 graphics card. I down loaded the latest driver, no solution. I down loaded an xp moviemaker file and captured to it from both of my cam corders, no problem. I deleted my program and reinstalled it, no improvement. I was wondering if there was an order of process, such as download adobe, then down load the driver. is the capture card seperate from the graphics card?? I am getting pretty frustrated. If I could find my old pennicle program I would load it and try it on too. I am not sure where to go from here!! Gus |
When I go to general, all I see is a check box for in/out points show media offset
Then it has features for pre and post roll and user interface brightness? I'm running version Adobe Premiere Pro v.7...does this feature only work in 1.5? |
I have a Pentium D 3.0ghz with 1024mb DDR2 667mhz.
I have two 300gb SATA drives on a Raid 0. I also have a 250gb SATA system drive. Is this a good way to setup a Premiere Pro 1.5 setup? Also, in the future, I am planning to buy two more 300gb SATA drives and put them in a RAID 0+1 - to mirror the two I have now - thus creating a redundant backup incase of a failiure. How does this all sound? I was also wondering if partitioning the system drive into a smaller partition for the system, and a larger partition for something else would be benifficial. I don't need the full 250gb for the system, and it seems like a waste of space. I was thinking of using some of that storage for compleated projects or something. What do you think of this? Thanks for all your input! |

is there a way to make a split screen in pro 1.5?
i just saw a dirtbike commercial for some video game and they had a 3 way vertical split screen. Is there a way to duplicate that effect in pro 1.5?
i used the search and foudn some things but they dont work to good. when i use the motion and such, it just makes the video image wider or shorter, the key is to have full size video in a smaller vertical box thanx |
Sure there is
It seems you want to use the Garbage Matte effect. Check the tutorial here : http://www.pacific.adobe.com/tips/pr...pict/main.html and go to page 2.

i figured it out in after effects..thanx guys :D

Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 question...
When you use a picture in picture effect, I sometimes use this over a white background and put a couple of pics on at the same time with a drop shadow, I wanted to know if its possible to put for example a black border around the pictures to help them stand out a bit.
If its possible could someone please point me in the right direction. Many thanks Paul |
Try the "Clip" effect. The Bevel Edges effect with the Light Color set to black should give a similar result.
|
Thanks again Christopher,
I'll try it out. Paul |
The bevel edges worked a treat, just what I wanted to do.
Thanks Paul |

To give a real world example consider the following hypothetical situation where I am shooting a music concert. I keep the tape rolling and recording songs [dance items, in my case] until the time left on the tape will not cover the next song in its entirety. This forces me to switch to a new tape [during the gaps between songs], until the same situation occurs. I can use a new tape, or go back to a previous tape if there is enough room left on it, which results in the songs being in tapes A, B, C, etc.. in non-chronological order. If I could capture tapes A, B, C etc.. into PP have have the clips listed in chronological order, I would be all set to begin editing. Of course, if this is not possible, my other option is to always use a new tape each time, and never go back to a previously used tape. While not a big issue, I figured someone here might have figured this out... |
Adjusting multiple clip volume
In Premire Pro, is there any trick or easy way to adjusting multiple clip volumes so it sounds "even" when played back?
E.g., I know that in Audition, you can push a button and have it automatically adjust the volume of different songs being recorded onto a CD so you don't have to change the playback volume adjustment for each song. For a given clip, PP allows you to maximize the gain without clipping. However, with multiple clips, I currently use the "manual" approach of looking at the audio VU meter for each clip, and adjusting the clip's volume so they all sound just as loud. Thanks for any words of advice... |
ok, i know about this lots now since i went thorugh this a day ago.
premiere pro 1.0 will work with 24p, just caputre it on the rgualr timeline. premiere 1.5 has an updatge for 24 if u want to edit both 24 and 60i in pro 1.5, its not going ot happen just yet, but you can edit both in premiere pro 1.0 if u want slo motion-do the after effects trick just do a search on here and u'll find a link good luck Sat |
cannot import still images
I have used Adobe premiere many times importing still images from my hard drive. I have a new camera (Nikon D70 SLR). Now, I cannot import any stills that were taken by my new camera. Adobe just freezes up and doesn't respond. I can continue to import images taken from my older camera.
The images are about 1.5mb and the dimensions of the images are 3000x2000. Adobe states that it will import images up to 4000x4000. Can anyone help me with this issue? |
mike,
I have a pentium 4 at 2.6 gh ht processor, I have a nividia g force 5200 graphics card. Factory installed video (I have no clue what it actually is) . Mike I had put adobe pro on the computer, though I do not think it was the problem. I removed both pro and elements from the c drive. I then put elements back on the computer . I down loaded the latest driver (I wonder if I got it in right?) and still no picture in capture. I ran movie maker and I do get a picture when capturing with movie maker. I talked to a computer guy and he said it should not be the graphics card if movie maker could run the input video. He suggested that there was an option to shut down the capture preview and that may be the problem. I got home and searched and did find that option but it was ticked to be enabled. Still searching for a solution. Gus |
Audio importing problems?
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 1 and whenever I import this paticular song, it cuts off the last 4 seconds of the song. I checked the song in iTunes and it plays the whole song there. I also figured maybe it would be there when I export the edit but it's not. Anyone know why and how to fix it?

GeForce 5200 has gamma issues. Right-click on your desktop, go to Properties, Settings Tab, Advanced, GeForce 5200 Tab, Color Correction, Drag Gamma slider to 1.00. See if that helps.
|
Whats the format of the audio, .wav, .mp3?
/Roger |
Are the pics .jpg's?
If you have Photoshop, try to convert the images to .PSD or .TGA and try to import the pics. /Roger |
I figured it out. The song ended right after those 2 seconds that were cutting off so I added some blank noise to the end of the song It worked.

Capturing through USB 2.0?
A co-worker recently bought a new laptop that has a USB 2.0 input, but no firewire. He has a Panosonic MiniDV camcorder that features a firewire output. How could he capture the footage? He plans to use an inexpensive Adobe application to edit that was purchased for $99. I don't know what the software is. Can you get a version of Premiere for that cheap?
