Hey guys maybe you can help. I have a RAID 5 set up with 4 250gb drives. I'm using it to edit down 300+ hours of footage for a documentry. I'm trying to figure out how I should be partioning the drive for my Mac. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is now available for the Mac, allowing direct to disk capture via firewire.

Supports DV and HD, but not HDV yet. It seems to be optimised for the HVX200

Sorry if its in the wrong catagory.

fce 1 problem.
when printing to tape the project runs for a few minutes and then I get a still frame on the computer and the monitor, ehile it sounds like the project is still running because the audio is advancing, but no video or audio is being recorded past the spot where the stillframe occurs.
all other projects in the same hardrive are ok, no problems printing anything else to tape.
can I be missing something on this project that is causing this shutdown?

Okay so I have a new 17" macbook pro and once in a while (more than I think it should) it doesn't recognize when I have my camera connected via the firewire cable when using FCP or Imovie. I've also had problems when trying to connect my external hard drive. Everything freezes up. Nothing else is pluged into the computer at the time this happens. I've checked the system and it seems like my firewire connections have just disapeared. I have to shut down my computer and than reboot it and than they show up fine. Has anyone else had this problem? Or is there something wrong with my computer

I am trying to export my reel in MPEG2 Quality 60 minute format and every time it gets close to finished FCP crashes. I built my reel using the audio and video parts of MPEG2 files of the chosen projects.

Essentially I would export them as if I were going to drop them into DVD SP and then import them into my reel bin. Is this bad? I have noticed that the only time I have issues with FCP crashing is when I am in this project.

Any fixes or advice would be appreciated.

I just started on editing this documentary project. The director gave me the footage on three FireWire harddrives! He captured the footage with FCP 5 (same version that I am using: 5.1.2). The footage was shot on Panasonic DVX100B cams using the F5 setting, which is the 24p setting.

Here is the problem: While I am playing the clips in the Viewer, I notice that the audio quickly looses sync with the video.

Here's what I notice: When I play the clips in QuickTime Player, there are no sync issues (thus i believe it is an issue within FCP, not the footage itself). In FCP the "Vid rate" column in the browser says 29.97 fps, which is not what I expected. In QTP the "Frame Rate" column for the video track says 28.0123291015625, which is also not what I expect.

What could be going on? And what would the solution be? MTIA!

I used to do a ton of picture slideshows in college, but I have not done one in a year. (Wedding season is upon me now) I remember reading somewhere about 6 months ago that there is a special setting in photoshop to use when I scan in all of these images. Unfortunately for me I didnt save the article, and now I need the article. What I remember of the article was that it talked about square vs round pixels, as well as optimal resolution to scan to get a great image in FCP. Does this really matter? I have never had any complaints on any of my slideshows, but if there is a way for me to improve, I would really like to do so.

Thanks

Hi,
I typically have a Sony VX2100 cam hooked firewire to FCP (PowerMac G5, FCP Studio 5.0)...and everything works just fine.

My 2100 cam is in for repair right now, so i have use of a Canon GL2. I hook GL2 with firewire to the Mac (just the same way as my 2100 was), and FCP freezes. the Mac seems to freeze up as well, but i still have control of mouse. the minute i unplug the firewire cable to GL2, everything is fine...plug it back in, freezes again. i restart FCP with GL2 plugged in and it won't open until i unplug the firewire cable from camera.

i had this problem awhile back, but didn't really look to troubleshoot it, so i have to capture some footage today and i am pretty flustered on what to do. i am still fairly new to Mac and FCP, so hopefully i can get some simple advice to this issue (if there is any). Thanks so much for any help you can give me...i appreciate it!

I know this process is usually fraught with snags but this was new to me. I'm having to re-link several hundred clips in a feature timeline sent to me by the director. I have a copy of all the source files on a drive here that is almost exactly the same as his drive in NY. He made some alterations to the music and I must create new titles for it and give it the polish it needs to go to the distributor for DVD mastering and release.

Now, the problem is sometimes when locating the clips it will either find them ok by 'search on it's own (in the reconnect interface) or It will come close and just not highlight the file but be in the right folder. I have to uncheck 'matched name only' and select the EXACT correct file it didn't auto recognize choose that and then nothing happens. It just sits there like it never happened, even after clicking the same file a several times repeating this process.

We've had illegal character experiences before so I know that could have something to do with it. This editor liked using hyphens and exclamation points a lot in his file naming so that's an issue.

Could I just name the clip original on the drive exactly what the reconnect window is searching for and be fine? Anyone tried this before? If I commit to it then I will have slightly differing names for many clips on the drive. Which isn't a huge deal since this is FINAL output but I'd still like to be smart about it.

Thanks

Hello,

I just finished a documentary filmed in 1080i50 and now I conformed it to 23.98fps to play it in a NTSC SD-DVD. But the burned DVD doesn't play correctly, freezing or jumping frames. What it is that?

Is there any special configuration for DVD studio pro?

Thanks!

Is it acceptable to mix interlaced with de-interlaced for broadcast? Specifically in getting the "Jitters" out of still frames, or is there a better way of doing it?

Also is there a way to "fatten" up the sound some for the whole project with FCP, such as exporting the audio, into Soundtrack & compressing it & such?
The narration already has some vocal compression but the whole thing still sounds a little thin.
Thanks,
Chris

I'm making a DV video from HDV clips -but theres more. I'm changing the HDV clips to different sizes so that I can crop and pan/scan etc... I've noticed that magically on my HDV footage FCP has added a field order effect to some of my clips and not others. My questions: Do I want this filter at all? I'm already having unrelated interlace problems and this confuses everything. HDV is upper, DV is lower. Why not choose "none" in my sequence? This interlace stuff has been a nightmare in all my projects.

Just curious - will an SATA II hard drive be faster by itself (non raided) on the internal built in SATA I bus in my 2.3 g5 or attached to an SATA II controller card like the Sonnet in the same 2.3 g5?

I just purchased the FCP Universal upgrade in December. I've tried now on 2 different projects to capture some 720p24 HDV footage from a JVC HD100 using batch lists with no success. That's not to say I can't capture footage, because I can; just not with a batch list. I can batch capture clips, just not ones imported from a batch list.

If I open up the capture window, set my in point and out point, I can then use the capture clip button to capture the clip. I can also log the clip and use the batch capture command to capture the clip(s).

Here's what I can't do. I make a tab delimited in Excel with "Media Start", "Media End", "Name", and "Reel", and import it into FCP as a batch list. All the clips show up in the bin just fine. When I go to use batch capture on one or all of them, the capture fails. Here's what happens:

If the clip is from 00:02:00:00-00:02:10:00, the camera cues up to 00:01:30:00ish, starts playing, and captures 1 frame at 00:01:35:00ish. Everytime. FCP isn't cueing the camera up correctly.

On a clip with the same in/out that I logged in the Log and Capture window and then batch captured, the camera would cue up to 00:01:55:00ish and then start playing and capture fine.

Again, if I log a clip from the Capture window, and then use batch capture it works fine.

So I thought maybe my batch lists were wrong, even though I could have a clip in the bin from a batch list and one logged from the Log and Capture window that looked exactly the same, and one would capture, and the other one wouldn't.

The next stage was to log a clip from the Log and Capture window, capture it with batch capture to make sure everything was fine, then export a batch list of the clip. I then reimported that batch list and tried to use batch capture on the new clip. Didn't work, same failure mode.

I really don't know what's going on here. FCP works with the camera great in every way we've test EXCEPT for the fact that I can't batch capture clips that were imported from a batch list.

I've also tried different capture presets (specifically I duplicated the HDV Firewire NDF preset and changed the frame rate to 23.98 and other values) and get the same results. I tried that based on the first post here:

I'm editing a 24P music video, and I'd like to put a strobing effect in it. The FCP-incuded effect seems to produce strange results - are there any better 3rd party strobe-style effects?
Thanks

I'm planning on purchasing a 24inch imac intel with external hard drive (LaCie Big Disk Extreme with Triple Interface - 500GB External FireWire 400/800 and USB 2.0 Hard Drive with built-in RAID 0 Array - 7200rpm 16MB Buffer).
Question1: Does this drive have loop through for connecting camera through to computer.
Question 2: Do most or all firewire drives have loop through?

Question3: Does this seem like a good way to go for up to mid-level sd/hdv/hd editing?

Thanks in advance for advice.

Does FCP have the ability to ingest 35mm anamorphic footage? If so what pulldown needs to be used to view it correctly? An associate mentioned to me that FCP can't pull this off but I wasn't sure and haven't messed to much with pulldown issues myself. Any place to learn about pulldown? And does anyone know how FCP deals with 35mm footage (delivered on DVCAM or DVC-PROHD, or a hard drive from a film facility)

Hey, guys... I've run into a major problem; any help would be great! I have to meet a deadline real soon! Here's what's happening. I shot some footage with the jvchd100, 24p, SD. If I watch the footage on the lcd screen of my camera, it looks fine. When I capture the footage, then import into my timeline, and drag the cruiser over the footage to preview it, it looks fine. However, after I render it, It glitches up; a bunch of horizontal lines form. My sequence preset is: DV NTSC 48 KHz Anamorphic. My capture preset is DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic. Devic Control Preset is FireWire NTSC. And under user preferences, for render control I have filters, frame blending for speed, and motion blur all checked... I also right clicked the footage on the time-line, went to the project properties, format... and the Vid Rate is at 29.96 fps and there is also a field dominance lower (even). Also, all the other footage I shoot is fine. However, this tape is from a different day, could it be something with the pull down removal? Perhaps I shot in 2:3 one day and 2:3:3:2, the other? I can't remeber if I did. If anybody has a solution to fix this issue, it'd much appriecated. Thanks so much.

I figured it out. Delete!

Here is my Pb.
I have no Pb to tranfer my footages (25 ips) from my XH A1 on to my computer' hard drive.
Then I have no Pbs using FCP 5.1.2.
When I transfer back my footages from FCP to XH A1 something strange occurs :
looking on camcorder's viewscreen during acquisition, everything looks fine but when I later read the tape, there is a 1 second image freeze at each scene change.
On top of it, when I ask the camcorder to copy time code from source (FCP), an improper and fixed value is registered.(only loast 2 digits are flashing up and down between 2 same values)
Last but not least, this Pb do not occurs when using iMovie HD.
Have the feeling something is wrong with Timecode. It seems that at the end of each sequence, FCP believes it reachs the end ot the movie and freeze last picture before realising shows goes on !
Have contacted Apple in France who is investigating.
Anybody faced same PB?
Thanks

I have about 4 hours of clips cut down from 40 hrs of 720p footage that I've been working on for about 2 months. I'm now trying to edit a montage of said footage but now whenever I playback the footage certain clips will start to glitch out and start to stutter over and over, the playhead keeps going, the canvas just stutters or it zooms in or it stutters and then the viewing area is divided into 4 quadrants with the top left one going blank. This is driving me nuts. I've set the playback quality to low and still this crap happens. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm dealing with a lacie terabyte external. While editing the 40 hours of footage this problem didn't occur but now when I try editing this new thing these glitches occur and I have no idea what's causing them or how I can make it go away and have normal playback so I can edit the damn thing. Can someone please help!?

Hi,
I'm trying to output a file from Final Cut Pro to Quicktime and I have gotten some strange results.

FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME CONVERSION>VIDEO SETTINGS
Compression Type: Motion JPEG B
Quality: Best
SOUND SETTING (I left as default)

The attached clip is done with Compression Type H.264 and Quality Low so that I could get the file size small enough to post it here. The strange results that I get with the H.264 file are the same as Motion JPEG B. Changing the quality setting results in the same problems. I also tried Sorenson Video and MPEG-4 Video - which gave the same result as the others. I did try the DV/DVCPRO - NTSC compression which gave me a file without problems. I would however prefer that it be a Motion JPEG B type of file. The short example clip is part of a longer scene of about 1 minute that has been sped up 1600%.

I am using:
QuickTime™ Version 7.1.3,
Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
Mac OS X 10.4.8
1.67 Ghz PowerPC G4
1GB DDR SDRAM
250 GB Lacie external drive (20GB free)

Thanks for any advice!

I've had different experiences with the Apple DV to Video adapter depending on the computer I am using. My laptops will put out a very good picture just by attaching it but my G5 outputs a terrible image. I tried several times to calibrate the output using the Display preferences but would always end up with strange color gradations.

Since I need to make DVDs of works in progress for clients and HDV requires some sort of rendering to output, I want to be able to run a video signal straight to a DVD recorder without the time wasted on a render. The MacBook Pro makes this easy but I don’t edit long form projects on it. I did a search and found a simple tool to help me calibrate the G5 video output.

I am certain this method will help anyone would needs a quick and economical output of their HDV project from FCP without rendering back to HDV tape.

What you need is an Apple DVI to Video Adapter on the second monitor port.
A television monitor.
A waveform monitor.
A pure RGB black to RGB white gradient going horizontally. A wonderful photography site called Dry Creek Photo has a GIF you can download (http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/Calibration/monitor_gradient.htm). This GIF has two gradients going in opposite left/right directions which is a help.

First calibrate the TV monitor using a regular video signal (color bars).

Make sure you can send the computer video to both the TV monitor and the waveform monitor. Either via a DA or by looping. Remember to terminate the signal if your monitor doesn’t do it automatically!

Place the gradient on the TV screen and open the Display Preference in System Preferences. I found that 800 x 600 interlaced works best on this particular G5 to display HD video. Click on “Options” and check “Overscan”. The “Best for Video” box introduces some softening of details, that’s your call.

Click on color and pick NTSC/PAL. Click “Calibrate”. At this point you might find it necessary to move the gradient and the calibration windows around so you can get as clear a view of the gradient as possible. The waveform should have an X pattern on it that’s created by the gradient GIF. The waveform of the calibration window will also be visible but that won’t disturb the calibration.

Ignore the first step with the oval (you should have set the TV monitor to a regular video signal before starting this). The next set of steps has a slider to the left of the gray Apple logo in a box. Do not follow Apple's instructions as these only work for computer monitors. You'll be observing the waveform from now on for calibration. Adjust each slider to make the X pattern’s lines as straight as possible. You’ll see how each step changes a different part of the gradation. Ideally the white area should hit 100% while the black will stop at 7.5%. To the right of the Apple is a box with crosshairs, this adjusts color balance. I didn’t need to change this but if you do you’ll want to eliminate any chroma on the X pattern. You can see this on the waveform monitor if it’s set to “Flat”. The lines of the X should be sharp, not fuzzy. A vectorscope will work only if the GIF and the calibration window are the only images on the screen.

After you finish the slider steps you’ll come to a Gamma adjustment. Adjust it so the X is as straight as possible. The color point step is the same as the color balance, eliminate any chroma that might be in the x pattern.

Save the calibration.

That’s it. An acceptable image for production screeners.

Now there are a few things to remember. This is not a perfect video signal! There is a bit of image level compression introduced, black levels start at 7.5 and white tops at 100%. HDV starts at 0% and goes over 100%, at least to 110% depending on the camera. The color looks good but I would not use it for color correction!

Great for creating temporary client screeners and you’ve spent all of $30.

Hello,
I am looking for information about building a cluster with Xserves or Mac Pros. I have a client which needs to convert hdv and uncompressed SD video into mpeg-4 (h.264) clips very fast. I thought building a cluster might be a good idea. Does anybody have any experience with it? Is it even a good idea or are there other (better) options.

Thank you,

Michael

After suffering with downgrading HD to SD work for export onto a demo reel..I discovered that it's very easy to export to DVstream and maintain proportions. Of course I am losing quality by downgrading to SD, but am losing more than if I was exporting to a quicktime .mov (DVpal)? More simply, is a DVstream got the same info. in it than a quicktime .mov of the same size?

Hi all!
I'm thinking of upgrading a little bit my FCP/ProTools setup:
I have a Quad G5 with an old Apple Cinema Display and an Epson video projector connected. Right now I'm looking into stepping up to a 3 way video set up (22" Cinema, Epson and a 17" lcd as second desk monitor).
Has anyone tried anything like this? Does anyone have any idea wether I might be better of with a second graphic card (GeForce 6600) or splash on a Hdmi I/O (Decklink Intensity, not yet supported on the G5)? Any thoughts or ideas appreciated!!!
Thanx,
Luca

Hey, everyone. I'm going to try to explain this the best I can. All right, when I export my project from FCP, as a QT movie, everything is in frame; nothing is cut off. However, after I print to a dvd through iDVD a few inches are cut off on the sides... Here are my settings: Compression: H.261, Frame rate: 24: dimesinons 647x410 (current). Under the size tab in movie setting for exporting, I have the option to choose preserve aspect ration using letter box... Should this be checked? I'm jumping all around here: Also, in my timeline for final cut pro, the opening sequence plays in widescreen (there are black bars) the rest of my footage play in final cut pro without black bars, but there's nothing cut off. After it's been burnt to a dvd, the opening sequence plays with black bars... but the rest doesn't, and sides are cut off. This is so weird, because in the QT movie this ISN'T happening. It's only after it's burnt to a dvd... Hopefully one of you gurus out there can figure this out... This is an event I shot, and has to be sent out in a couple days... :S

Hi. Anyone experience using the Jive5 three drive internal enclosure for the Power Mac G5? I'm concerned about: 1) heat build up running three more drives - SATA at that (they do tend to run hotter). 2) Can the OEM power supply handle the extra current draw? 3) Would the fans not be constantly running? 4) Is it necessary to get the four plug PCIe card as I intend on RAID 0 striping - can they be strung together before going into the card requiring only one cable to the board? Any thoughts from those who have used this set-up. Thanks.

I'm trying to conform a clip that I shot with my Fx1 to 23.98 in cinema tools, but when ever I do it, it ends up trying to conform all my captured clips in the project, even though I only selected one clip. And even then, all the clips go to a skipped folder in the capture scratch folder for that project, and the conformed folder is empty. Not sure if that makes sense, but does anyone know what is going on?

I am asking for some help. I think I my post got lost or is of no interest.
I would really appreciate it if some "pro users" of FCP-Compressor would take a moment to read and respond. I see that lots of forum members looked at my posts but only a few responded. Rather than retyping the entire post just read the thread. Someone must have encountered this sort of problem. I read the Bonzai step by step. Makes no difference. A glitch in Compressor? I have reinstalled etc. Basically it's HDV to SD, edit natively and export to QT Mov and import to Compressor. In Preview in Compressor the left side looks fine the (Compressed) right side looks terrible. interlace is what it looks like. Using Sony HD monitor have checked the path several times but must be missing something...

Hi:

FinalCut Studio's Soundtrackpro (latest version) seems to have a bug and I wonder if anyone else has encountered it.

I came across the problem when I defined my Kona LH as the Input and Output device for SoundtrackPro and found that my attached powered monitors were silent. FinalCut audio, on the other hand, works as expected with the selection of the Kona card. As for SountrackPro, the only method that seems to work at the present time, is to assign the Kona as the Mac system audio output device but this is not the best solution since there is no way of controlling the volume of system sounds when directed through the Kona. I might add, that trashing the preferences folder did not resolve the issue either.
A conversation with Apple Tech Support this day seems to support the presence of this bug and the absence of any current solution.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so, have you found a work-around???

I finally bought a FCP system after years of using Premiere Pro. (MacPro, 3Ghz, 4GB Ram, 1900 Video Card) I love the new system and I'm excited about many of the features that FCP has that PPro doesn't. However there are a few features of Premiere Pro that I regularly use that I cannot find an equivalent for in FCP. I'm looking to see if anyone here has any suggestions. Either equivalent keystrokes, workarounds, or general workflow recommendations that don't use my old way.

1) In PPro, I can use Alt+WheelMouse when over the timeline to zoom in and out. (I know the Mac can do a Control+WheelMouse to "Zoom", but this is an operating system function) Is there any way to zoom the timeline using the mouse? Can it be configured as a preference?

2) I PPro, I regularly use the selection tool for MOST of my editing. When trimming, you can hold down Ctrl and PPro will perform a ripple-edit. Without the Ctrl key it simply does a trim. FCP does not seem to have any shortcut like this. Do you HAVE to use the Ripple tool (rr) in FCP to ripple edit?

3) I assume there is no way to name tracks? I can get over it, but this was a nice feature in PPro.

I haven't seen too much on the new Final Cut update, 5.1.3, which supposedly fixes the transfer back and forth between Intel macs and G5 macs (a fix which I need.) Any more reports from you brave souls who've updated?

We've got one thread about mpg files crashing FCP 5.1.3 here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=86726

And a thread about 25p footage looking funky on 5.1.3 here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=86754

And a problem with 5.1.3 scratch disks here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=86647

Anyone with On2 or Flip4Mac plugins? Anyone with multiple video cards?

Hi guys,

I am new to using Final Cut myself and have a few questions I was hoping somebody could help me with.

I have footage shot on HDV at 720p 30f, off a JVC HD100, and wish to cut it up on FCP.

I have captured and logged the footage successfully but when I attempt to introduce it to a sequence I must render the footage, not only to begin with but after I make any changes in my edit I must render once more.

I have checked that my sequence settings are the same as my clip settings but am still having the problem.

Can anybody offer any assistance or perhaps an easier way to capture and cut.

I have an urgent film school project to complete and this is proving to be a nightmare.

Thank you very much,

Dave

Some juicy tidbits in there, and even rumbles of a new version of Shake, now called Phenomenon. I'd love to make wild comments about how cool this could be, but I'll leave that to others. I'm tired.

Nattress has just released Big Box of Tricks for Final Cut Pro, which incorperates Nattress Set 1 & Set 2 plus a whole lot of new filters and effects.

Can't wait to start using them. One that immediately caught my eye is the new G 50 Percent, which is described:

"This filter creates a smooth 50% slow motion by splitting fields into full frames. Controls to blend between fields and to add anti-aliasing ensure a smooth slow motion."

This will be great for people like me who don't have After Effects. There's also a great time lapse feature. Now I'll be able to get much of the functionality of the HVX using my Canon's if I plan shots right. Elton Barlow has already shown that this can be done, but using these new Nattress effects should make the task super easy.

For those of you who haven't used Nattress before, I highly recommend Graeme's packages, they're amazing. And the price, $100, wow... fantastic value. Along with Nattress Film Effects, Big Box of Tricks is going to be the must have third party software for FCP.

Keep rolling out that software Graeme, top stuff, thanks!

(I see 'Plugins for Motion' is on the way - can't wait)

Hi all,

I've entered into another project on my Macbook Pro and run into the same old problems, After Effects runs slow as hell, even with nucleo, and I don't want to have to re-edit this on my PC. I've already cut it in Final Cut, but I have greenscreen to pull and effects to create.

I thought, hey, I'll open the video files from Final Cut in After Effects in Windows through Mac Drive. Only problem is that I get no video, it recognizes it as far as lenghth and audio, but the screen is white.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do this? Edit in Apple/Final Cut, then do Mograph in Windows/After Effects and put it back into Final Cut? Are there tools I'm missing?

Hi:
For those of you who use MPEG Streamclip to convert their mt2, avi or other formats into Quicktime (mov), which codec has proven most useful, i.e. Apple Jpg A, Apple Intermediate, etc.?

Thank you in advance,
Ron

Hi all

I had a quick question that I thought for sure would have been answered on the boards but I did not find it.

What is the best preset using compressor to export to the web with. It seems that everytime I choose the H.264 encoder it wants the video to be SD @ 640x480. Is there a way to preserve my aspect ration when exporting for the web using h.264. I finally got frusterated and exported using FCP to a custom quicktime movie utilizing mp4 since it encodes a bit quicker and still looks nice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Again I'm just trying to find out the best way to export an HDV sequence to the web using h.264 and still have the widescreen look. I have a feeling im going to hear..."just change your height and width settings"

Thanks again for your time.

I tried to trim a 50 minute file in Quicktime Pro and then 'save as' as amother file name. However I cancelled the 'save as' and now the original file lasts for only one frame. HOWEVER it nis still showing the file size as 60GB (the size of the original file). It seems something in the Quicktime file is telling whatever program it is opened in that it is only one frame long.

Does anyone know how I can retrieve the rest of the file? We hired a digibeta player to capture the footage so it's be nice to avoid hiring it again.

Thanks!

Daniel

Probably covered within other threads, but can anyone confirm that the latest version of FCS 5.1.4 is fully supporting the Canon/25F mode (the "PAL land" full frame mode)?

Are there other surprising issues I should know using FCS 5.1.4 for capturing/editing Canon HDV footage - or is it all working as it should be?

Set up:MacBook Pro 17" (OS X 10.4.8) - FCP 5.1.2 - Mac 23" Cinema Display - XLH1

So . . . there must be a good reference for post workflow from HDV to SD 3/4
DVD. I'd appreciate any references, URLs, or other resources that discuss combining SD 3/4 with 1080i footage.

Many Thanks!

PS - Perhaps I should add Matrox MXO to above mentioned system?

hey guys, I'm sure this has been talked about before but i think its worth mentioning again. I bought a copy of dvd studio pro 4 academic version on ebay for $125, sent installation dvd to apple and upgraded to fcp studio 5.1 universal for $199. There's a number of different software packages you can get (soundtrack pro, production suite, motion, etc.) some of the academic versions are eligible some are not. see this ( http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/ ) link and download the pdf order form of the specific software and read the fine print to see which versions are eligible. fcp for $350 = better than fcp for $1300.
