need real advice ?
hi im living in Australia and have a friend that is in Japan for
work i have asked him to purchase a xl1s for me . the price over there is $5200 where i live it is $8000 big difference as you can see. What are the unforseen problems i may have. this camera will be used to make short films an anything i can make money of. Its a big desision for me an i dont want to regret it so any imformation would be very helpful p.s i was going to buy the pdx150 but the xl1s is cheaper. thx |

Just make sure you buy a PAL cam from Japan, and be prepared to send the cam back to Japan for warranty repairs if something should go wrong. (That means paying shipping both ways). Plus when you get the cam back, Australia is going to put you through the ringer with taxes. I know. When I sent my cam back to Australia, Pana got dinged with the taxes. Strange, huh?

There are some places in Akihabara that sell PAL cameras but I've only ever seen consumer models. Getting a PAL XL1s might be difficult and cost more than the local NTSC models. Is the price you found for a PAL model because local NTSC XL1s are around AUD$5300.

thx guys for you time to respond Frank i checked out the
warranty issues it looks as though canon has new rules about overseas purchases as long as the warranty card is stamped by the place of business with there address the warranty will hold and i can get it fixed in local shop.(also need receipt of course.) Adrian you are right PAL is a special order from the shop an will take a week to get .so there local is definatly NTSC this is the real deal i hope my friend isnt that naive,or it will cost me big time i hope i wont have to go through a lesson like that. it should be okay. Zac thanks for the teaser i will keep it in mind .how much would the xl1s cost in Singapore just out off curiousity .if u can get it cheaper there i may just have enough time 2 do it But it would really have to be worth while. Thx again guys for the helpful info. |
