Tom,
Sorry for the chicken/egg error.

Well, let's see, the largest IPO I know of would have been the AT&W Wireless IPO in 2000, although AWE is listed on NYSE, not Nasdaq. The largest Nasdaq-listed IPO might have been the recent Google offering at around $2.7 bil.

Need DOP for a DV Feature Film in India.

Hi,
I'm a filmmaker from Bombay in the early stages of pre-production for my first film. A 2 hour feature film to be shot on the XL2 PAL.
Looking for a DOP who has worked extensively with the digital medium and can translate my vision with XL2 while making it look like Film. My Final output would be on Film.

Being a rather Low-budget feature, at the moment all I can offer is a Flight Ticket along with reasonable accomodation and food.
Will try my best to get a token amount going too. The duration will be around 45 days. (20-25 days of shooting).

The period I am looking at is December-January.

Would request those interested to contact me at zsl_12@hotmail.com with the subject saying :DOP.

Any Queries could also be addressed on this thread.

thanks,
Zohar.

PS: Shooting in India can be as exhilirating or as frustrating as you would like it to be. It all depends how adaptable you are to the situation. The resources for DV film-makers can be a scarce out here. On the bright side...labour comes cheap and so do raw materials....so building resources if one has the knowledge can be quite pain-free

Dylan Couper October 2nd, 2004 10:55 PM

If you are looking at attracting someone to travel halfway across the world to DP for you, you might want to give some idea about what the film is about. :)

Another thing you might want to consider is the dates you have chosen. Most people in North America will be celebrating holidays in December, and will probably want to be here with family during that time. Your offer intrigued me, up until I got to the December/January timeframe, as I have family commitments here.

Digital gunfire effects artist needed

Wanted - someone to add in high quality gunfire effects in a short video.

Requirements/experience: No experience needed! This is a chance for someone with no experience to show their stuff. Although it is shot on miniDV, this is a professional level project, and professional quality effects are needed. We'll need to see a sample of your work, or alternately we can give you a test clip to do a sample effect on.

Payment: Deferred pay project, meaning you don't get paid until the overall project makes money. However, even if it doesn't make a penny, your work should still get seen by a TV audience, and it is a project that you can use on your demo reel.

Location: You can be worldwide. The avi clips can be FTP'd to you.

Details: There are probably about 10 different clips that need to have muzzle flashes added. In each clip there are multiple flashes from rapid fire.

E-mail me for more details at the_klenzer@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Transfer Medium Format Film to DVD or CD

Folks.

I have about 300 individual medium format film of my wedding that I want transfer them to DVDs or CDs.

Does any one know any place here in Northern Viriginia that provide that service or maybe some where on the web that can get this done?

I've looked at some meidium format scanner but they cost 2k plus that I can't afford.

Thanks
AP

Zohar Lokhandwala October 3rd, 2004 07:07 PM

To give you an idea.
The Film titled 'PotLuck' is a two hour DV feature in English.
The Film serves as an analogy to the ironies of life where you never know what comes to the table. 'PotLuck' consists of Four stories of nine people, all interlinked through a series of PotLuck Dinners.
Set in the Urban Landscape of Mumbai, the film offers a refreshing look at the lives of nine people all strugling with their own demons.

Dylan, the reason I'm considering December is
!) The city is lit up like crazy and I can get my exterior shots quite beutifully without the added expense. Christmas is part of the script.
2) Come Feb and Bombay start heating up. Its hot sticky very very humid and shooting can be quite exhausting...especially for someone who's not used to the weather.
3) I do not mind looking at Jan, but I'd still like my DOP to be here atleast a fortnight before shoot. And I want to finish shooting before Feb. I have a lot of Festival Deadlines to keep.

Keith, where can I see your work?

Doug Puckett October 4th, 2004 06:20 AM

having to make 50-million trips to Home Depot and slog
through bulletin boards for answers to obscure
questions will make this course well worth the cost.

Class size is limited, so definitely sign up early.
Again, I highly recommend any indie filmmakers in the
Baltimore/DC area come out for this course!

Instant Films 16 -- need help this weekend in LA

One more Instant Films this year--seems like just yesterday we had our August festival. This one is the 3rd annual Halloween festival; the previous ones have been fantastic.

OK, so who do I need? Looking for a boom person (gear is provided) who knows how to get clean tracks (we are shooting on the DVX100a). Also anyone interested in grip/electric. This would be for this upcoming weekend, Saturday the 9th.

No money, nope. Instant Films is a 48 hour filmmaking festival; the goal of the whole thing is to foster creativity and make the best films in a weekend. The screening is a lot of fun; there's drinks and cute girls (if you happen to be a girl reading this, I guess there's plenty of cute guys too) and awards and all that.

Visit the website (www.instantfilms.tv), see what you think.

back in seattle...

Hey everyone... I used to live in seattle a few years ago... and am now back. I picked up filmmaking/videography as a hobby about two years ago or so... I'm interested in getting into the local scene to help on any projects in the area. I have experience with DV - including: premiere, photoshop, after effects, canon cameras (xl-1).... and, I have a lot of my own equipment - including camera and accessories, editing software, sound equipment, etc. I recently shot a music video back where I used to live... for a group I used to be in (www.fadedsoul.com). I'm going to start editing in a few weeks (moving can be a pain). But I'm interested is seeing what sort of projects are out there right now and where I can help out. I work for free... for the love of the media... (though I did do a video documentary for someone and was paid in Beer and Food once). I'm interested in expanding my experience and learn from other seattle filmmakers. Drop me an email at Velasco00@hotmail.com.

CAST CALL for an African American female

CASTING CALL for “Shopping Cart”

I did get a great response and the filming is going great however I am in dire straits as one of the leading charters left for a paying gig which I am happy for her yet it leaves me in a bind. I need an African American Female for the part as all the other parts are taken and the one woman who left leaves me with an all white cast except the leading role of the male actor who is African American.

If you have any info at all I would be grateful if you could forward it to the actress and I would be wiling to give her a logline.
DayDream Believers is going to be filming a short 20min to 25 short in the Uptown area during the month of October and part of November.

There is no payment to the actors or actress who are chosen. DayDream Believers is an non-for profit organization that trains individuals that want to learn filming. We try to make their dreams come true hence the name DayDream Believers. This film is being made for three interns and they are the main crew and they would like it to be sent to five film fests that are up and coming this fall and next spring. No film festivals that are being entered have a prize a cash prize whatsoever.

Who could rent me his FU-1000 CRT viewfinder?

I guess this is an unusual request, but I need to rent the B&W CRT viewfinder for a project that will be shot over 2-3 weeks in December. I need to rent it from someone located in Canada because if it has to cross the borders, I will need to pay taxes on it.

Here's my story:

I just bought the Canon XL2 with the 20x lens and an additional 14x manual lens. I was originally planing to only buy the body only kit with the manual lens and the viewfinder. But since I'm located in Canada and wanted to buy the camera here (easier for the warranty + I got a great price), there was no way of knowing when the body only package was going to be made available.

Canon Canada and Canon USA are seperate and independant divisions, so even though the body only version is coming out soon in the USA, I got words that it might only come out late November in Canada and that there was a priority list to boot. This was unacceptable for me since I'm starting to shoot late November and wanted a bit of time to get accustomed to the camera.

So I went ahead and bought the XL2 with the 20x lens. I figured this was a positive thing anyway since those 2 lenses combined will fill the totality of my needs. OIS, long telephoto, servo zoom and AF with the 20x, full manual iris control, full manual focus control and a wide angle (with an adapter) with the 14x. They complement each other perfectly.

But now, I don't have enough money left to buy the viewfinder. What's worse, I already bought the 2x magnifier for it. Well OK it's not a huge deal since I know I will eventually buy the FU-1000, it's only a matter of time. But time is what I don't have right now. I will be able to buy the viewfinder in February when I get my tax return, but right now I cannot afford it and I need it badly for my next project. I've been playing with the XL2 a bit and I feel the LCD viewfinder is only so-so. I'm not completely comfortable using it for critical focusing. I also need underscan to avoid bad surprises in post (since transfer to film and DVD authoring are part of the plan).

My only remaining option is therefore to rent it. But it's nowhere to be found here in Montreal. So I was wondering if anyone who owns this viewfinder and will not be needing it in the month of December would be kind enough to rent it to me at a reasonable price. I would pay for shipping (insured and trackable of course).

Let me know if anything can be worked out. Also if anyone knows rental houses in Canada that do "long distance" renting via the mail, I'd be interested to know as well.

Thanks for helping out,

David

I Will Shoot Your Film

Hi directors and producers!

You have a script but no production crew?

I can shoot, light and sound your movie (I got DVXAE, Lowell Lights, Seinh mic plus Boom).

I prefer SHORTS cos I can only shoot on WEEKENDS.
I live in NYC (CHelsea) but can travel if needed.

My crew (can be yours) is me (camera operator, lights) and my assistant (she booms the sound and helps with lights).

If you need she can be a script supervisor too so you can focus on directing. She did great job workinng with me on feature. So 2 people of Prod Crew plus You and talents. Enough to make a low budget movie. I just did one :D
