Are you looking to get this done gratis?

Anthony Faust July 9th, 2004 02:36 PM

David,

I'd prefer to have this done gratis. To return the favor, I will include the storyboard artist in the credits of the film. Email me at anthonyfaust@hotmail.com for more details. I've put a mock up of the storyboards online.

Thanks,

Anthony

Richard Alvarez July 9th, 2004 02:55 PM

Anthony,
Try your local art school, or better yet, check out your local comic store. I know several profesional comic book artists who double up as storyboard artists. (No, they don't work for free.)

By the way, screen credit is usually a 'given', you might want to up the ante on your offer.

Hi, new to LA and looking for like minds (and some work).

Hello,

I recently relocated to Los Angeles and have been keeping my chin above water freelancing (mostly Post-Pro work).

I'm looking to meet like minds around town and possibly crew up to produce event, coroporate, documentary type work.

If you're a camera person, sound person, sales producer with gear and know how, maybe we can team up and make some extra cash. I have a 3-chip camera, but I dislike shooting. I'd rather be the guy in the dark room at 3am sitting behind a computer cutting.

***I am also open to helping any Post facilities out there that are busy and in need of a hand. I'm proficient in Media Composer and I own an Xpress box. My FCP skills are improving. My After Effects skills are good.***

I'm here if you're interested. Drop me a line.

Thanks,
Jason

Need de-interlacing or Magic Bullet

Hello
I have a 4 min video I want to give film look to. Seek someone in the NY/NJ/CT area who can de-interlace it or film look with Magic Bullet at an indie friendly (inexpensive) rate.

Friend de-interlaced a previous version with his Vegas Video system and it looked good, but he moved away. I've seen impressive film look done with Magic Bullet so that's an option also. An editor acquaintance tired film looking it via Cinelook and I did not like the results, and his system was unable to do de-interlacing.

It's on miniDV, was shot with Canon XL1. Thanks for any help. I live in lower westchester cty, 30 min from NYC, and north NJ and 20 min from south CT. Have car, can travel.

Wedding in Alaska - Video needed - 8-28-2004

Hello,
I'm getting married 8-28-2004.
Most of my DV cronies are in the wedding, so we need another camera jockey for the event.

I can't offer any money for the event, but I can offer some good fishing, a place to stay, and much needed food and drink.

I have a GL-1 and a XL1s (with accessories) that can be utilized so you would not need your own gear.

Need to be in Anchorage no later than Friday morning the 27th.
Wedding on the 28th, then it's open on when you need to be back to the airport etc.

The wedding will take place at my cabin (92 miles north of Anchorage) in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley (larger than Virginia). It will be an outdoor event.

Please contact me at ifish nospam@ak.net (remove nospam) if you are interested. We can talk on the phone after that.

This is a good excuse to come and see Alaska, and get in some good fishing/sight seeing/etc.
Rgds.,
Dan Holly

Crew needed for indie feature shoot in Chicago

Hi, I'm the DP and a co-producer for an extremely low budget (pretty much no budget) reshoot of a DV feature film called "For Steppers Only" written and co-directed by Anthony Batie, Sr. The basic story is about an African American girl named Monique who's college career is interupted by college funds. She soon learns of a dance contest named "For Steppers Only". Monique uses this as a strategy to overcome her financial as well as numerous emotional problems that happen along the way. The project is in pre-production stage and is schedule for it's first meeting July 17. This is to get the key crew members organized, discussion of the story and creation of a rough shooting schedule. We're looking for the following crew members:

Production manager, location scouts, set designer, assistant director (a must for organization), camera assistants, grips and sound.

Equipment:
This will be a 2-3 camera shoot utilizing a Canon XL1s, Sony VX2000 and possibly a Sony VX2001. We have basic grip equipment which consists of 2 fluid head tripods, a tripod dolly, a small jib arm, a homemade glidecam (hey it works), an possibly a dolly made with a flatbed garden wagon with pneumatic tires (a cheap trick there).

Lighting wise (a "home depot" light kit): 2 worklights on stands, 1 worklight sitting on ground as fill, 4 clamp worklights, variety of 100W-200W light bulbs, colored flood light bulbs, color gels, ND1.2 and CTB gels, diffusion, china balls.

Sound: Azden SGM-X shotgun mic (1/8" mini jack), Beringer mic amp with LED VU meter, boom pole. 4 2-way radios for core crew members(Director,AD,DP,PM).

And finally... Gaffers tape (in a variety of black and flourescent green and blue )

Seriously though if any possible crew members have equipment they're willing to donate (wireless mics a plus) feel free. If not we expect to use what we have and still treat this production as serious as possible. Production will probably be for a couple weeks in August. Food will be provided. This would be a good experience for any hungry, serious filmmakers out here in the Chicago area who's in the same grind looking to network and build up there skills. Age isn't an issue either (I'm just 18 myself) you just need to have the will to do this.

If interested send an email to: lkd_852003@yahoo.com

Kris,

Charles Papert shoots a short, seeks helping hands in L.A.

Hello gang:

Like the title reads, I'm shooting (as in DP'ing) a short film starting this Saturday the 17th and running through the following Sunday the 24th. I don't normally do these any more unless I am directing, but the script on this one convinced me to jump back in one more time!

I am using a DVX-100a with a Mini35 setup and a Zeiss lens package. We have some interesting lighting challenges ahead of us. We are still finalizing the grip/electric side of things, and desperately need crew in those departments. If there are any DVI'ers out there who want to help out and perhaps glean some lighting nuggets from the experience, we'd be happy to have you. Also, we need a camera p.a.--again, an opportunity to get some solid experience.

The lead actor is Sam LLoyd, who plays Ted the Lawyer on "Scrubs". Very talented.

Please email me with responses (or post here with questions).

Thanks all,

Wei K. Pun July 12th, 2004 09:21 PM

Dear Mark,

Actors/actresses needed in D.C area

Hi, I am looking for non-SGA actors/actresses to help out with making multiple DV projects. I live in MD, Gaithersburg but can come out to D.C any time. If interested please email me at

James Emory July 14th, 2004 08:48 AM

Charles just bring that project to the ATL and I'll be happy to AC for you.

Ed Smith July 14th, 2004 10:16 AM

Chas, just bring it across the pond to the UK, and I'll jump on board quite happily!!! all the best for the shoot.

K. Forman July 14th, 2004 10:19 AM

If you have a spare couch, I'd be honored to help out!

Charles Papert July 14th, 2004 11:05 AM

You guys are all very sweet, too bad you are all GU (geographically undesirable).

That, incidentally, is an LA dating term: with a city this big, finding out that the person you are interested in lives on the other side of town makes them GU...!

Robert Knecht Schmidt July 14th, 2004 11:32 AM

You can't get a break--even if you do live in L.A., there's still no guarantee you live in L.A.!

Hmmm, what a great way to handle a one night stand:)

George Ellis July 14th, 2004 01:56 PM

Yep, LA is GU. When I was dating, I would just not drive from Atlanta to Lower Alabama.

Good luck on the project Charles. Even if I had additional vacation time, just not enough experience to help. But I could day dream, right? :)

K. Forman July 14th, 2004 03:01 PM

Charles- I was serious... I have no problem picking up and leaving the wife and kids!

Is there anyone else out there that knows where to rent such equipment in Western NY??

Steadicam

Currently flying a Hollywood Lite GT Series, but looking into the Steadicam Flyer as soon as I test it out.

Charles Papert July 19th, 2004 11:25 PM

Ed:

You'll love the Flyer, she's a high-performance system. My sense is that for anyone who is used to every other rig (including Tiffen's earlier efforts like the Mini), the arm will be a revelation on the order of "oh, THAT's what a Steadicam arm is supposed to feel like! And the monitor is very bright and sunlight viewable, and has good off-axis capability.

Sort of similar to the way I feel having treated myself to my first "adult" car after years of driving s**tboxes, wagons and bland SUV, for hauling the gear around...I got an Audi A6 and am just starting to understand what the concept of enjoyable driving is all about! (kept the bland SUV for the gear, though).

Mike Moncrief July 19th, 2004 11:46 PM

Hi Ed,

What kind of camera are you using on your Stedicam rig ??

Robert Martens July 21st, 2004 01:32 PM

New York City/Long Island area volunteer

Just realized that while I had brought up my desire to work for free in another thread, I never officially announced my availability in this forum. So here goes:

Shooting something on Long Island or in the city, and need an unpaid gopher to get coffee, carry boxes, or other such undesirable work? Shoot me an email (I'm sorry to say I'm the last person on the planet without a cell phone right now; gimme a week or so, and I should have one)! I'm willing to do just about anything you need done, provided I'm able, and like to think of myself as a fast learner. But I could be wrong. Maybe I'm a moron. I don't think I'm qualified to decide that.

What do I ask in return? Experience. Mind you, I'm not gonna refuse to drag cables around on the grounds that it's not "what I'm here to learn", but I'd like to start working toward a career in one of these industries. I'm not sure which industry just yet, though, so I'm up for anything. Film, video, whatever's your bag.

Now, you may ask me, "What can you bring to the table aside from your open minded but annoyingly self-deprecating attitude?", and I'm glad you do. I've yet to make a movie of my own, but I do excel at one thing: spending thousands of dollars on equipment that's too good for me, learning how to use it, and then not using it. I have a VX2000, ME66, Evolution 100 wireless mic setup, assorted cables...nothing fancy, but potentially useful in a pinch.

I also have in my possession a '91 Chevy Extended 1 ton passenger van, courtesy of the University of Maryland (won it in an auction in '02). Formerly used by the marching band to traverse the campus, it's been driven less than sixty thousand miles. Passed inspection and emissions tests a week or two ago, got it registered in my name, and it's ready to go. And with only ONE row of bench seats installed (it's capable of becoming a fourteen person bus, though I don't own the necessary seats), there's more than enough room for any big, heavy, possibly dirty stuff you've got to toss inside. It'll be a pain to park in Manhattan, what with being a van (an extended one, at that), and it's registered as a passenger vehicle, so I can't double park; I could have that changed easily enough, though, if need be. The DMV out here is surprisingly fast.

The van is also air conditioned, for those extra muggy summer days. :)

With regard to my ability to travel: I am not, unfortunately, intimately familiar with the city OR the island, but I do own maps. They're (mostly) current, and laminated so I can mark my route to wherever it is you need me. Not to mention my dad's been living in New York for the last fifty nine years, give or take, and can give me tips and shortcuts should I need them.

Speaking of my father, whom some of you I'm sure have heard me ramble on about at great length, he's a plumber, and I've been working beside him for two and a half/three years now. Should you need plumbing related props, or licensed, insured master plumbers to hook something up, well, I'm your guy. And if you need deals on pipe, or other such material, I can probably swing that too.

So there you have it! Here I am, ready to work and learn, and give everything I can to your film or video production. Should I fit the bill for your project, feel free to contact me via email at bob@mail.gyroshot.com to schedule something. I may need a day or two's advance notice (a bit more if you need my father's services), though, to prepare--remember, I've never done this before--so try and let me know as soon as possible.

Other than that, your whim is my command.

Jesse Bekas July 21st, 2004 07:03 PM

I would do it for you, but just do yourself a favor and buy DVFilm Maker. It's cheap and will do the job. You can even download a trial version to test it for yourself. Good luck.

Jesse Bekas July 21st, 2004 07:09 PM

Where in WNY, what are the specific dates, and do you need camera PA's?
