I went out and picked up a Canon ZR80 at Best Buy for $380. Mac OS X and Final Cut Pro HD had no trouble detecting it.

Jeff, you can use any mini dv camera to watch 24P footage. I filmed the auditions for my Uncle's short film in 24P. When we played it back in a Sony trv30, it looked fine. I'm pretty sure the same holds true for 24P A, but I'm not 100% certain.
