If you find yourself really needing an original paper copy (to complete a package for a sale), I have one I'd part with, including the original addendum sheet.

Charles Papert July 24th, 2002 01:25 PM

Thanks Robert. Because of a time crunch I have ordered the manual from Canon (it's only $10 so no biggy). I appreciate your response.

Wanted: Frezzi 75w mini-fill w/dimmer and Soft Box diffuser (or close)

Hello,
Most of our production is outside in the long Alaskan summer sun.....but...we ran into a few situations last weekend with our production where we had the need for some type of lighting to help our XL1s.

If anyone has anything out there sitting around for a decent price that will work on a XL1s, please email me. I would rather buy from anyone in this group instead of reverting to ebay or retail.

I use this email from my son's website to help control the spammage: fieldy@teamkorn.tv

I will reply from another email.

Thanks in advance !

Dan

Do you have a pic or link to the camera bag or know what make/model it is? Should help you in selling it.

Dylan

Bag

I am on the road and do not have access to the bag to check. It is a green bag from a brand that has simply slipped my mind. One of the majors. I am getting old, now where did I leave those keys....

Dylan Couper July 24th, 2002 09:56 PM

Hmm.. I don't suppose you want to trade a Sony MiniDisc player/recorder for any of that gear. :)

randydv1 July 25th, 2002 08:52 AM

Mini Disk Player-no, Canon EF Lenses-strong maybe

All those cool gadgets, so little time. We are ramping up for still photography and would consider Canon EF L lenses for trade or partial trade. Our nicely organized heap of unused electronic devices is alreay unruly.

* * TRIPOD * *

George,

I went and bought myself the Bogen 3246 tripod. I put the 501 head on it to hold my Canon XL1S. It is more than adequate. I don't know much about that particular head attached to the tripod. The 3246 should be more than enough to hold the GL1. I bought mine for 190.00 beans w/o the head.

Positives:

1. Solid Tripod
2. Sturdy
3. Easy to adjust
4. High extension, geared.

Negatives:

1. Large-Heavy for hauling around with everything else.
2. The center column prevents the unit from going low.

I enjoy mine. If you upgrade in the future to a heavy camera, the tripod will be there. It seems overkill because of the size of your camera. However, the price sounds good.

I hope this helps...

Side bar: If it doesn't work for you, you could always unload it and not lose any of your investment.

Cheers!

Derrick

George Gerez July 25th, 2002 09:52 AM

Derrick,

So The tripod is good. I will see if its still available. Thanks for your input. well appriciated.

Aaron Koolen July 25th, 2002 02:15 PM

Randy, I take it the XL1 is NTSC and not PAL?

Hi Mike

I am interested in purchasing the GL1 and the ME66 but had the following questions since this is my first time making this kind of purchase :-)

1) How many hours have you put through the head of the Gl1?
2) When was the Gl1 purchased and is it still under warranty?
3) Was the camera ever sent back for repairs? Any dead/hot pixel problems?
4)What tapes did you use?
5) Will I need to get a K6 power module with a studio 1 XLR adapter in order to use the ME66
6) What form of payment are you looking for PayPal, Money Order..etc.

I'll hopefully be using this camera to shot a documentary about women rights issues back home in Africa (Eritrea) so since this is my first documentary I would appreciate any advice you or other members of this board might have :-)

Interested in the ME66 (assuming you've included the k6 power module).
We can do the deal as soon as you'd like.

Basically everything but the XL body (including the Canon aluminum flight case). I just added the P&S adapter to my XL1, and as well as using 35mm lenses, it needs a bigger case. The pieces are mint...Email me with any interest.

model # of xl-1 remote

i have two gl1 remotes, if they are the same model number, i would consider parting with one of mine.
anyone who has xl-1 remote handy, can you check the model #?
jason.

Jason Bagby August 7th, 2002 10:43 AM

get the 501 head! (3066)

i think the head is UNDERkill. as important (if not more) than a sturdy base is a smooth pan tilt. you have one, but i don't know about the other. since your tripod legs already weigh 20 lbs, the fact that the 501 head is half the size of the stock gl1 won't matter, but when you use it you will see. its a great product.

Chris Hurd August 7th, 2002 01:32 PM

They are not the same remotes. The XL1 remote is the WL-D2000. The XL1S remote is the WL-D3000. The GL1 remote is the WL-D73 and the GL2 remote is the WL-D77. Hope this helps,

Ken Tanaka August 7th, 2002 08:54 PM

Hello Jon,
Are you still looking for a GL-1?

Charles Papert August 7th, 2002 09:38 PM

I'm all set with the remote, ordered it from Canon. Thanks anyway!

Still looking for that darn 14x lens...

XL-1 Pro Package for sale

I'm buying a couple of new cameras, so I have an XL-1 and lenses for sale.

Immaculate condition, include 16X, 3X and 14X lenses and much more:

Full details, photos and contact info at:

http://www.xiveren.com/canon_xl.htm

thanks,

stephen

Dylan Couper August 8th, 2002 10:47 AM

That's a nice package. You might find it easier to sell, or get the price you want for it, if you part it out. You should have no problem selling the 3x and 14x lenses seperately for a fair price to people here.

Stephen van Vuuren August 8th, 2002 10:53 AM

Thanks for pointing that out.

I would consider any offers on those as well. I'll add a note to the page to make that clear.

My new cams (AG-DVX100's) don't arrive until October, so I;'ve got some time.

Jon Kelib August 8th, 2002 12:22 PM

Gl1

Sure am Ken..I zapped you a e-mail with some questions and look foward to hearig about the Gl1 you have.

Thanks

Wanted: VX2000 or GL2 (or similar/better)

Greetings everyone,

I have a bit of a problem -- I need a digital camcorder that performs exceptionally well in very low light. The Sony VX2000 (or PD-150) appears to be a perfect match for my needs. I'm also interested in the Canon GL2. (The 30fps progressive scan mode sounds delicious.) Unfortunately there's no way that I can afford over $1,000. (I'm currently unemployed, pretty much broke, and hoping to get accepted into the Minneapolis College of Art & Design sometime in the future.) I purchased a comparatively cheap Panasonic camcorder, but quickly found out how awful the low light performance is, and returned it to the store. The kind of movie I'm trying to create requires lots of extremely low light situations. B&W/Infrared won't do, I need colors, so a 3-CCD camcorder seems to be the only way to go.

I'm running out of options. Considering there's absolutely no way I'm going to find a working VX2000 or GL2 for under $1,000, I thought I'd try here and offer a trade instead. My brother resells domain names (which is essentially Internet Real Estate) and will allow me to make a deal with someone for a trade of a VX2000. He owns nearly 4,000 and they are searchable and categorized. Visit www.nameprodigy.com to see the list of domain names. If you are at all interested, please email me at matthew@kieren.com and we can talk.

Thanks!! :)

Michael Wisniewski August 10th, 2002 08:48 AM

What kind of condition is it in?
--------------------------------
Good condition: All moving parts are still tight and feel solid. The case is in good shape, shows casual wear and tear. There are no dents or dings - there is one cosmetic scratch which you can see here: http://home.earthlink.net/~mikeysbistro/CanonOpturaPi/crw_0223.htm

The lense is in excellent condition, I've made sure to take good care of that.

Check out the close-up pics it will give you a good idea of the outer physical condition of the camcorder:
http://home.earthlink.net/~mikeysbistro/CanonOpturaPi/index.htm

How many head hours?
--------------------------------
I'm guessing a max of 100 hours.

I've got 15 MiniDV tapes of raw footage from the Optura Pi and 5 master tapes so:

~ 20 hours for recording raw footage and writing back master tapes
~ 40 for preview/playback
~ 15 hours to copy raw footage to computer
~ 10 spill over use, rewinds/re-use of tape etc.

What is your price?
---------------------------------
$500 or best offer - conducted through an Escrow service

Dylan Couper August 10th, 2002 01:53 PM

If you aren't in a hurry, you might be able to find a used GL1 for close to $1000. $1300 might be more realistic though.

I'm not in an "overnight" hurry, but I'm hoping for sometime this month. I've done a LOT of research online, and the VX2000 looks perfect for my needs because of it's low light performance. The GL2 also looks good, but the GL1 has some problems from what I've read. I'm really hoping to find a VX2000 though. Some of the domain names are worth thousands. If someone has a VX2000 (or GL2) and sees a domain name they could use, please contact me. I do have a small amount of cash on me as well, but not enough to just flat out buy one. Maybe something could be negotiated?
