Hi All,
I am in need of a minidisc recorder (not just player), on the cheap. It doesn't have to be a flashy new model or anything, actually it shouldn't be since I can't pay for one. All I really need is one that has a mic in jack (some just have line in) so I can do live recordings. Thanks so much!

I have 5 boxes of 5-pack Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ miniDV/DVCAM Professional tapes (25 count). They seem to be VERY popular amongst the forum for the best quality/price ratio. I've used them extensively in my PD150 and've never had a head/dropout etc problem.

Check eBay for a Sharp MT-15. Unlike many of the Sonys, it lets you monitor and vary volume while its recording. I use one for field recording -- street musicians, ambient sound and the like. It works great (I think I paid around $75 for mine).

I was thinking of selling my Sony MZ-N1 netMD unit. Only used 20-30 hours tops. Bought it maybe 2 years ago, was the top of the line Sony MD player, possibly the smallest they've ever made. Paid $350-400 for it. They sell used on Ebay for $150-$250. I'd probably sell it for something in between. Not sure if that is out of your price range or not. I know you can buy lower end models less than that new. Let me know if you are interested.

Chris, you may need to lower that price a bit. Those tapes are available from site sponsor EVS for $4.19 a tape ($105 for 25) + shipping. Pro-Tape has them for slightly less but they don't seem to be listed as a site sponsor anymore, not sure what the deal is there.

But to anyone interested, I'm using these tapes exclusively with my GL2 and they've been great.

I really only want to buy a cheap one to use for a film class so I don't have to go through the hassle of trying to take one out at school, (as for the rental lady, think Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" only more harsh, lol).

Sadly a family illness (my dad has terminal cancer, mom has spinal problems) have caused us to make some major changes. We are selling our home and moving back to Texas to take care of the folks.
