Re: How is the Tokina 11-16mm on the C300
The Tokina 11-16mm is a super-wide. It's a great lens, I use it a lot. There are a few shots taken with it on a C300 in this video (it starts 30 seconds in):

Re: viewfinder reccomendations
I've been using the LCDVF for the past 2 years on all my DSLRs. It's cheap, simple and effective. I'd highly recommend it.

Re: Tell me what is GOOD about FCP X
Actually, the biggest group of complainers are young guys who have been brought up editing on FCP. They've not seen change before and they can't handle it.
I read one so-called expert exclaim he'd...

Re: 133x CF card
Maybe you had a bad batch Daniel. Mine have worked flawlessly in every type of environment.
Does anyone know how long these cards are good for? Some of mine are two years old - at what point...

Re: Base line shutter speed.
Strobing is stuttering or jittery motion. Sometimes it's done deliberately for dramatic effect, like some action shots in Saving Private Ryan.

Re: Base line shutter speed.
Oops, just realised I didn't answer your question! All things being equal, shutter speed should be half the frame rate; so at 25fps you should be at 1/50th. This will deliver motion blur similar to a...

Re: Base line shutter speed.
For UK TV you should shoot 25 frames a second.
For online shoot whatever you like. Computers don't care about broadcast specs...

There's no secret sauce here, just a water bowser and bit of backlighting. Simple really.

Re: Fallout from todays FCP screen cap leaks.
Given the way Apple have handled the prerelease of FCPX it was always going to be a target for hackers and whilst I think hackers are a PITA, I don't think it's the end of the world to have a few...

Re: ProRes Export Darkens Footage
Welcome to the Apple gamma bug.
This is a widely known/debated topic. In theory, the issue should be sorted next week with the release of FCPX which doesn't use QuickTime for colour management.

Re: Shooting Speeds - 50th or 100th?
That's normal.
A higher shutter speed will result in a sharper image as there is less motion blur. The downside is that it will cause strobing. It will be fine on some shots, no so on others.

Re: Trying to establish a day rate...help?
I just looked at my own prices and at I'm at about 3%, so what do I know!
To be fair, (to me) in the UK I've hired lots of kit at 2% or less, though I must say I'm always amazed at how much my...

Re: Trying to establish a day rate...help?
Rental rate is usually between 0.5% and 2%.
You guys should be careful about discussing rates on an online forum - there are laws in many countries that take a dim view of that type of thing...

Justin,
It's interesting that you can see a difference using ProRes4444. My own tests showed no difference apart from a much larger file size. The difference in the two tests is that you are...

Re: Low Apertures and ND Filters
Stacking NDs if fine. Buying a stronger ND is better. Try getting a 1.5 or a 1.8. On a sunny day, shooting at 1/50th/ISO100 with a 1.5ND will get you to f/4, with a 1.8 will you'll to f2.8.

Re: Technicolor Cinestyle Initial Tests
There's certainly less noise and better colour fidelity when properly using this PP/LUT but using ProRes444 wont improve performance - it will just waste hard disk space.
