Re: Shooting fireworks at a wedding.
Don't bother going down to f/8. Open it up as wide as you can. You're focussing at infinity so focus won't be an issue.
As for shooting the fireworks in 50fps, I wouldn't. Fireworks explode and...

Re: Shutter Speed/180˚ rule
With all due respect to anyone in this thread, it really bugs me when people talk about not correcting a mistake because they think the client won't notice. Does being a professional not mean...

Re: Shutter Speed/180˚ rule
Re: the shutter, I will go as high as 1/125 and as low as 30, even though 30 is still a bit weird to me. I understand that a fast shutter and resulting jittery effect can be used creatively, such as...

Re: PluralEyes - WOW!
I don't believe there is a minimum time, but the shorter the clip, the less data Plural Eyes has to work with, which (obviously) means less accurate sync. For this reason, I always make sure that...

I'm trying hard not to feed this prime vs. zoom debate because it's off topic, but if you're too close, can't you move? Is this not something that should be considered when you first setup?

Re: My ambivalence about FCP-X
Bingo!
This is the big thing for me. I'm staying back and seeing how things shake out, but if FCPX is where the world is headed, I'm going to learn it. I don't want to be the luddite, out of...

Re: Too many videographers?
Agreed, 4 people shooting the bride prep is absolutely ridiculous. Not only is it unnecessary, but it sounds like a disaster to edit. I don't want hours of mediocre footage of the bride getting her...

Re: Bride is FAT on DVD!
This is correct, which makes me think it's a pixel aspect ratio thing. I don't recall the correct pixel aspect ratio for widescreen 16:9 dvd, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not 1.2?

Re: My first DSLR cinematic wedding
The two things that stick out like a sore thumb for me are
1) The movement. I don't know what monopod you're using, but I would look at the Manfrotto 561BHDV. If you're using that one, then...

Re: Same Day Edits Workflows
1. Make a plan. Map out 15 sequences that would fill the SDE (i.e. bride make up, groom getting dressed, groom, park, etc) These will change throughout the day. Get to know your couple so these...

Re: Delivering Raw Footage on Hard Drive
If I deliver raw files, they're raw files - not transcoded to ProRes - so I format the drive FAT32.
Is there a particular reason why you are providing ProRes files and not the raw AVCHD files?

That would be a great feature, no doubt, but I use a free project called Time Edition that does the same thing. You simply open it, select your project, select your task (editing, dvd authoring, etc)...

Re: OK, one more lens? Need Help.
I would pick up the 35mm f/1.4. It is a bit pricier than what you're looking to spend, but there is also a f/2 version which can be found for about $300. It won't look as nice wide open as the f/1.4,...

Tim,
Good stuff. I liked the energy, and it certainly holds up to a lot of DSLR stuff.
What I would change is the color. I would back away from the Magic Bullet presets, or at least tone them...

On the same token, before...

I know a studio who is in need of a wedding shooter in Toronto on February 19th. I told them I would lend a hand by seeing if anyone out there would be up for the job.
I have worked...
