Re: advantages of cropping 4K

Thanks a lot Dave! I just cropped an image from a 1080p timeline and I'm impressed, can't imagine how good 4K must look!!!

GH4 Loses Sound at 24p @100mbps

Hi All,

I'm in love with the GH4, but I had a huge headache at a wedding recently when sound appeared to disappear without warning. I was unable to find the fault until the following wedding, when...

Re: advantages of cropping 4K

This is one of the reasons I'm interested in shooting 4K next season!

I want to get your new camcorder first and then shoot 4K with both the GH4 and the AX100.

Can anyone explain how I go...

Re: Computers and Drives

Such as Danny O'Neill.

I currently edit from a GRAID Thunderbolt 4TB HDD and a La Cie 1TB Thunderbolt HDD. Then as my main back up, I have a Synology 20TB Server that I run in a RAID 5...

Re: Robert & Kattie's Wedding Highlight

I teared up! That was an amazing wedding and story, brilliantly retold. I have longed to exit a highlight film at one minute before, yet I was in awe throughout and surprised by the length of the...

Re: Tin + Nga's Same Day Edit with Bridal Prep using the A7s

I also loved the steadicam during the make up, as well as your ring shots throughout.

@ 25 seconds - the look the bride gives you is amazing... not only does it make me go, "wow, that bride is...

Re: Thunderbolt Drive Enclosure: It's About Frickin' Time

I currently have a G-Tech 4TB Thunderbolt RAID.

I would love to switch it out for a replaceable drive unit though... it's true that they're a complete rip off... although performance has been...

Re: Shooting Video and Being In the Wedding

Definitely check out Ray Roman's Cinematography class, just to watch his prep video alone.

Maybe it's different in the UK, but Groomsmen just sit with the family at the front - they don't stand -...

Re: Shooting Video and Being In the Wedding

1. Has anyone ever attempted this, or done this?

Yes, in April of this year, and it was my first time too.

Here is the resulting film:

Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?

Congrats on your new camera Dave! I really love the GH4.. I've had one problem with audio thus far, which was related to one particular codec (24p @100mbps), but internal 4K, peaking and zebras are...

Re: Wedding Trailers

This is how I'd like to price my packages if I turned pro/semi-pro... the way I see it, I'm a one-man team, shooting your wedding day. Every part of your day is important to me, and therefore, I want...

Re: Drive format and File size

By main drive, do you mean your internal drive that also stores your NLE software? If so, you should follow Dave's advice and edit from an external hard drive anyways. If you have a Mac and edit via...

Re: My First Sony A7S Wedding

Some incredible shots there, Clive. I agree with Noa in also loving the shots of the portrait session, particularly the one close to the ground with the tele lens, along with...

Re: Some Final Questions Before Shooting #2 and #3! Colour Balancing/Grading + more

Thanks Robert... I am thinking about whether or not I can shoot some footage at 30p and see if they would notice about the difference... I do agree that it was 'death by slow-mo'... if tomorrow's is...

Re: Some Final Questions Before Shooting #2 and #3! Colour Balancing/Grading + more

Thanks a lot Robert for watching the video! This was for a friend and the bride wanted no audio in the film at all :/ But she did want the ceremony and speeches as extras, but she wanted no mics...

Re: Some Final Questions Before Shooting #2 and #3! Colour Balancing/Grading + more

Thank you to everyone for your replies - really helpful and useful information!

Unfortunately, the bride and groom want no mics to be shown, so I guess it's a case of inside coat pocket and...

Some Final Questions Before Shooting #2 and #3! Colour Balancing/Grading + more

Hi everyone,

As you're all aware, I'm getting into wedding videography, but I'm still very much a learner. I have two weddings within the next week and I'm shooting with a Panasonic X800, GH3 and...

Re: Better voice recorder

True Pete... that's why I opted for the slimmer, less lengthy M10, but it is wider, which is its 'downfall'. I don't think groom's will have too much of an issue with a pocket recorder that doesn't...

Re: Synology Server on Mac OS X - Can someone explain the basics please?

Never mind, I've figured it out. After using the operating system through a browser and reading up online, there is no way to drag and drop a folder (as far as I can tell), so instead you login...

Re: Better voice recorder

I recently purchased Sony M10s... they're more expensive, slightly smaller length ways, but much fatter than the H1s...

The battery life is fantastic on the M10 though and it's supposed to be one...

Synology Server on Mac OS X - Can someone explain the basics please?

Hi All,

Recently I purchased a Synology Server (DS1513+) with 20TB (WD 5X4TB drives). The server is set up, my login is sorted and I have checked the hard drives (all in working order).

This...

Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?

Hmmm I think they're amazing for drone stuff... I love the GH line up, don't get me wrong... I just think that if I'd spent as much as I have on the M4/3 line up on the Canon line up for wedding...

Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?

My apologies.

It's 4:2:0 to SD card in 8 bit.
And 4:2:2 to external recorder via mini HDMI in 8 or 10 bit.

And it's 'real time' 10 bit 4:2:2 externally... I'm sure Philip Bloom said 'true...

Edward, I have no doubt that you know your stuff (and have benefited from your advice in the past - thank you!). I have read similar opinions regarding skin tones on the GH4 camera... but to say that...
