Re: Shooting Time Lapse Sunsets with C300??

Two approaches to this situation. Simplest is to change exposure one or twice during the time lapse and then dissolve between them in your edit. This can be combined with the above mention key framed...

Re: Shooting Time Lapse Sunsets with C300??

What I've done is shoot in c-log (locked mode) setting the exposure where you want it with full sun in the frame and then leave it alone. The image will gradually darken over the course of the shot...

Re: Anyone have any idea what these are? Please help!!

Hi Chris.

Well that looks interesting doesn't it. Verrry much different from the "pattern noise" I was seeing in my dark grey backgrounds (which also has a linear nature, but is more pulsating...

Re: Anyone have any idea what these are? Please help!!

I saw something like this last week on a dark neutral grey background we were using for some interviews. In FCPx it appeared almost like a weird tv scan sync problem, as the screen pulsated in the...

Re: White balance conundrum...

Thanks all for the great information. The next day we came in and faced wildly different lighting as the afternoon sun was replaced by a thick grey overcast with rain... Which when filtered by the...

Re: White balance conundrum...

So are you saying that the camera, in addition to setting the kelvin at a measured value (when using push white balance), is also applying a tint to correct beyond the base kelvin temperature? (This...

White balance conundrum...

Yesterday I was scouting an office location for a shoot today, and the room we're shooting in largely illuminated by light filtering through those 90's era greenish reflective glass panels that we...

Re: question about the c300 evf

I find focusing with the C300 evf quite easy, especially with the display magnification which essentially gives you a 1 to 1 pixel viewing ratio. I find the zacuto evf coarse by comparison...more on...

New Ef-S Lenses and EMD

Somewhat cryptic in Canon's press release regarding the two new EF-S lenses announced yesterday is this statement about a new type of lens diaphragm:

"the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM features a...

Re: Canon Announces New Firmware for C300

Maybe that's because you don't live in Korea.....or East Hollywood? ;-)

Agreed, this is hardly a newsworthy update. Let's hope there is something a bit more substantial in the near future.

Re: Taking Pictures

We just had an interview job, and the client wanted still's (portraits) shot as well, but couldn't really give us more time due to logistics (7 interviews and 7 portraits in 2.5 hours). We ended up...

Re: C300 low light performance not quite as super as expected

Hi Nigel.

wow...that's looks pretty bad. not at all what I'm seeing from my camera here. This is on par with the noise I see from the camera at ISO 20,000, not 6400. (and just so we're clear,...

Re: C300 low light performance not quite as super as expected

Nigel.

If you can...post a frame grab from the offending footage. So we can see what you're seeing.

And FWIW...I did some testing of the various factory presets last week (as I've almost always...

Re: C300 low light performance not quite as super as expected

Well....I think that most of the discussion surrounding the C300 post launch, pre-delivery focused not on the lack of noise, but on it's "quality". DSLR footage up to that time had shown a lot of...

Re: C300 low light performance not quite as super as expected

Just a thought or three. If you're using the normal settings, the c300 is applying a fair amount of sharpening to he image, which is boosting the appearance of the noise in the image. As you said,...

Re: Can anyone give a report on using the EF-S 17-55 with the C300?

Certainly it doesn't have the build/feel of the 24-70...but it also doesn't have the weight. It does seem a bit more susceptible to flare, but that may be due to the fact it doesn't ship with a lens...

Re: 5 things about the C300

Put the 24-70 on any camera it fits on, and that camera will instantly become front heavy. :-)
(and I'm not sure why you would ever single-hand a camera of this size, configuration and weight)
...

Re: A letter to Canon

Frankly I couldn't imagine shooting a wedding with this thing. We shoot small commercial production mostly, and it's fine fiddling with the camera for a minute or two..but with events...ahhh...you're...

C300 MoonLit clips denoised

At the suggestion of several people on Vimeo, I ran a few moonlit clips through a de-noiser (Neat Video). I'd consider these a moderately aggressive denoise pass...I've left a little noise and then...

Nice one Nigel. Is the travel of the moon in the second shot in real time?

Re: By the light of the moon

here's a particularly ugly example, but I think exemplative (is that word?) of the dynamic range the c300. This is absolutely worst case I think. ISO 20,000 using the normal 1 setting. Moonlight at...
