Re: New Drone Seems awesome - Talk Me Out of It?

Those are some very important points, Roger. IF the device they call a leash does allow manual control like we would expect, I'll still probably buy this (yes, after its actually come out). Then...

Re: ?Ways to Use a GoPro - And which one?

Oh, I'm not crazy. I saw that, too, and knew we wouldn't pre-order. We're looking at a target of April/May ourselves IF they ship on the new time. I hope to have enough time to run it through the...

Re: New Drone Seems awesome - Talk Me Out of It?

A pretty fair concern, Roger.

It looks like the AirLeash (tracker) is also the manual controller, and you can buy a 2nd one to take control. I've also sent a question regarding the control app....

Re: New Drone Seems awesome - Talk Me Out of It?

Roger I have seen a YouTube video where a two man team did a helium balloon setup tethered with fishing line tether. No gimble. Just fit it into styrofoam.

We're not considering A quad copter. ...

Re: ?Ways to Use a GoPro - And which one?

Kind of what I was thinking, Noa. No critical shots, only stick it somewhere I *might* get a REALLY cool shot, but its no big deal if I don't.

Peter, one reason we're seriously considering this...

?Ways to Use a GoPro - And which one?

80% certain we'll be getting a GoPro camera to go with a new quad copter, before next wedding season (this one, if you're curious; https://www.airdog.com/ because I wouldn't have to do the flying,...

New Drone Seems awesome - Talk Me Out of It?

We've never flown before, but with this guy, the AirDog, we just might (OK, my wife REALLY wants it).

We shoot only weddings (so far) and I know that a quad copter camera is just a tool, like a...

Re: Ceremony on the lake front

Thank you, Oren. I'm not a person who has a problem with constructive criticism. Some of these mistakes I've already started working on.

I was, in fact, using auto levels on the pocket recorder...

Re: Ceremony on the lake front

Plays on Vimeo. No idea on Facebook since I didn't post the link, she did. (157 now). Later on I'll get some stats on completions versus starts. Mostly I'm just really happy that it got such a...

Re: Ceremony on the lake front

Woah, I was inspired to make a 5 minute trailer for this wedding, too and emailed the couple yesterday afternoon.

In 12 hours its gotten 100 views already. Very nice.

Jillian & Andrew's...

Re: Feedback on my work.

I like #2 better, and of course it does use natural audio, though something still felt a little flat about it - not sure why, I only watched once. Maybe it never really had a crescendo, it didn't...

Re: Feedback on my work.

Travis, your work looks good, which is a great start. Agree on the audio. You will get a lot more reaction with even limited use of audio.

Watching Video #1 I would have bet that the audio...

Re: Ceremony on the lake front

Thank you, Adrian.

I really like tripod shots and try to stick with moving shots when they're useful - like when the dancing opens up.

Similarly, I have found I really like tight close ups...

Re: My first 5 minute trailer in a while

Thank you, Adrian. Wow, really glad to hear you two reacting this way. Maybe I'm finally on to something. To be fair, this edit is based on a Joe Simon video.. naturally, can't hold a candle to...

Re: My first 5 minute trailer in a while

Thanks, Noa.

That is the result of a lens choice. A classic lens from the 60s or 70s that I used because I liked the color, while stupidly ignoring what problems that would cause.

My first 5 minute trailer in a while

I usually stick to full length and 15 minute films, but this one lent itself to a very nice 5 minute trailer for the couple - I only promised them the full length.

As always, I'm annoyed at some...

Re: Hopefully, a productive thread to gain more business

Just as an attention getter. How do we show off our work on websites/social media? We aren't photographers, so still photos seem wrong, somehow. Auto-play videos are the devil, or don't work on...

Re: Hopefully, a productive thread to gain more business

Not sure about GIFs on Facebook and such, though a Vine might work, too.

As for what it should look like, I don't have the excellent B&G one I saw, where they're holding hands on a rooftop,...

Re: Hopefully, a productive thread to gain more business

My philosophy is to try and figure out as many ways as is reasonable for the client AND their family/friends to enjoy the video and to get our name in front of the extended group.

I make the long...

Re: Any one only offering highlights?

Roger, just to be clear, I do deliver both. I figure the full length video is for the bride/groom, and their immediate family, maybe a few close friends. The 15-20 minute video is also for them,...

Re: Ceremony on the lake front

Thanks for the tip, Kyle. That will be key for in December, when the snow will bounce all that sunlight like the lake did. Well... if the Sun is out...

Re: Ceremony on the lake front

We shoot 24fps. We try to stick with shutter speed 50. On a bright sunny day, we're most likely to roll our shutter speed up, rather than changing anything else.

At a different outdoor wedding,...

Re: Any one only offering highlights?

No one will show us how long they watch the video, so this past week's posting, I finally wised up and sent the bride a link to a page on my website with their video embedded. That way, I can use...

Re: Using live audio

For my long edit, where I like to use original audio, I'll use the audio from one long clip, then layer the video footage from that sequence over it. So, showing people at the reception hall, part...

Re: Any one only offering highlights?

When we can, there are two of us so shooting both is easy. If not, I try to get them to schedule their prep at different times. The bride needs more, so she goes first. Groom needs 5 minutes. Of...
