Re: Light stand as mic stand

It's possible to build a frankenmicstand from the parts of two or more mic stands. (My ingenious second shooter, Stefan, thought of this, and many other things.) You know how most mic stands are...

Re: Love Story/ Engagement Shoot

There's a number of different ways to do it. Here's four.

1. No story, just music video. You'll see some of the Filipino videographers do this, with epic slow motion and lens flare shots. I've...

Re: First wedding with Slow Motion and 3 Axis Gimbal.

I had my eye on the Helix. Couldn't justify the cost of it though. Completely envious!

Some things I was curious about (sorry for the barrage of questions):

Was it a hassle to carry around?...

Re: Tin + Nga's Same Day Edit with Bridal Prep using the A7s

I was quite struck by the steadicam moves during the make-up, and your slider work again.

Watching the ceremony just makes me anxious, because I've shot in similar situations, and didn't find it...

Re: First wedding with Slow Motion and 3 Axis Gimbal.

Some nice shots there!

Any issues with using the gimbal under wedding conditions?

Re: Tile gps for cases and bags

Hadn't seen it before. Looks kind of interesting.

Wondering what the purpose of it is, though. Range too limited for anti-theft, right?

So is it more for absent-mindedness? "I don't know...

Re: Blu-ray Premium Surface

Update on Pro River and dual-layer Blu-Rays -- apparently, they do sell them, though they're not listed at the website.

Re: Changing from C100 to A7s?

One random comment: "image quality" is subjective. I personally prefer the 5D3 image to the C100. Sure, the C100 is demonstrably sharper with better dynamic range, but that's not how you gauge image...

Re: Blu-ray Premium Surface

I recently had the experience of running around my area frantically, near closing time on a Friday afternoon, looking for writable BluRay disks. Office supplies stores, department stores, electronics...

Re: Tourism event

Hi Rob, thanks for the feedback. Very much appreciated!

Those girls in red, by the way, are Virgin Airlines folk. The girls in grey with the white scarves I think are Emirates. Not sure about the...

Re: Blu-ray Premium Surface

Anyone know where to get glossy dual-layer BluRays? River Pro seem to sell 25gb only.

Re: Robert & Kattie's Wedding Highlight

Hey Edward,

Some random comments...

Loved the grading and the crisp look to the images. In awe of your slider stuff. Main critical comments are two sound issues -- the music overpowering the...

Tourism event

I was hired by the event company, so, in a sense, it was more about the styling and the furniture than the people. But then they also wanted to show the people having a good time, so striking that...

Re: A7s or GH4 - which for you?

Going to go on a slight tangent and say that if anyone sees a 1DC for $8000, do send me a message :). I've occasionally seen them, very rarely, around the $9000 mark on eBay. I'd take it over the A7S...

Re: Blocked Shots - Why can't we go up?

I have to say -- that Spider Tripod Riser looks really tempting, but the price tag scares me. If I had $2,000 or $3,000 to spend on gear, there's plenty of things I'd rather spend it on!

Re: Blocked Shots - Why can't we go up?

Well, the obvious disadvantage -- sounds like what that marathon shooter gained in height he lost in mobility, and in setup time. Was he basically stuck to that spot for the entire fun run?

Re: Covering the first dance at the reception.

Hey Kyle, I continually change the way I do it, but here's my current practice:

First thing -- beg MC for a gap between speeches and cake-cut, so that you've got time to adjust lighting, change...

Re: Bringing equipment

One rule I have for myself is: "If you can't take it all in one trip, you're taking too much." I'm always pushing against the clock before ceremony and reception start, and I've been in plenty of...

Delivery by hard drive?

I've started to move into photos, and I've found that if you convert a couple hundred photos at maximum quality, into print-optimised as well as web-optimised formats, and maybe supply hundreds of...

Re: How to take your Wedding Videography to the next level?

Hi Tyson, I have to ask -- what sort of tripods do you use? (I've got a suspicion you're using photography tripods rather than a video tripod with a fluid head.)

Re: Please Halp or critique.

Hi Robert, sound might be one of the main things that stands out. Better to mic them up if you can.

Re: How to take your Wedding Videography to the next level?

Hey Tyson, Robert's advice is good, but two things that jumped out at me -- (1) you don't need to fade to black between each shot; it breaks up the flow too much; (2) your shots could be more stable....
