Re: Any one only offering highlights?

Jeff, I have, but from our quality increase. We offered the shorter highlight style from the beginning as a sales tool.

Saturday I will go shoot for $1595 (8 hours) and make a full length video...

Ceremony on the lake front

I just finished editing our latest 15 minute video, this one with a ceremony right at the water's edge at their lake cabin. This was actually a destination wedding for them. This was in Minnesota...

Re: Any one only offering highlights?

Steve, I do both (sort of). Since I put all my footage in order, synched, as part of my process to make the shorter 15 minute video anyway, and that is what sells us, I make both the 15 minute video...

Re: Any one only offering highlights?

I don't do this, instead we deliver a 15 minute and a full length. HOWEVER, there is a guy I've run into three times now who 'only shoots highlights.' Of course, he isn't filming much, so it's not...

Re: Audio from dj

Yes. HOWEVER, you have to double check it. Some mixers have different outputs.

You want the "Rec/Record" or "House" output. It *might* be labelled "master" but on my mixer, that would mute my...

Re: How long before 1080p DSLR's (5D,7D,T#i,60D) are considered obsolete?

Really, it will be whether people bother with 4K TVs. We won't know for a few years, most likely. I'll be holding out to replace my cameras until then. Maybe another group of 4K cameras will have...

Re: My first wedding video for 8 years. Lessons learned.

We learned some similar lessons our first few weddings. We now have a LOT of extra batteries and memory cards, just in case :).

I like having a light or two on hand, even if it stays in the car. ...

Re: Wish all of you well for today's shoots

Good luck, Jeff. I'm off today, and deserve it after turning a huge wedding edit around on 5 days, much to my wife's chagrin.

Re: Suggestions, especially for color grading?

It's alright, Bob, I get it, though it really is not much time. Mostly I am using this 4 minute video as a test case for outdoor color grading because, well, it's easiest to render quickly and see...

Re: Suggestions, especially for color grading?

Thanks, guys. I made a few more changes that helped, after Adrian's first post. Downed the saturation a bit, and apparently I had forgotten that "contrast" is a thing, so I added some. I'll mess...

Suggestions, especially for color grading?

I'm now shooting CineStyle profile, and pretty flat, but trying to get better at the post color grading.

Here, so far, I've done some curves adjustments, upped the saturation and contrast a bit,...

Re: photogs kiling spontaneity, the worst kind

I agree though I also understand. From my point of view, casually staging a few moments is a lot less work than constantly filming *hoping* to capture a genuine moment. However, I still prefer the...

Re: Finally doing 'Ceremony Only', what to film?

Thank you, guys, for all the info. I pulled back a bit on what I was going to do, but I think, in the future, I will get the B&G talking to the camera IF I talk to the pastor and he seems dull, to...

Re: Editing my first wedding

Not sure how different Final Cut is, since I'm using Sony, but....

I shoot 3 camera. I have 4 video timelines, one each for each camera angle, then my top layer is what I want to show. I do this...

Re: First Wedding - advice for a solo shooter?

I just solo shot my first 3 camera ceremony,

For focus, I have two cameras already set and focused on the front area (the groom). One from the back (85mm on full frame - wide shot), and the...

Re: How to get song license?

Just because a company allows the song on YouTube doesn't mean we, as the common folk, have permission to use it. This is primarily a concern for a commercial use (like us or a company lip-synching,...

Re: Finally doing 'Ceremony Only', what to film?

This time will be $500, which I suspect will be a little low, but it's a first time for this, and combined with the short notice, I was OK with that price. For now, it's a decent price... if you...

Re: Finally doing 'Ceremony Only', what to film?

I think of the single camera from the back as the 'Uncle Bob' and I only offer that to my DJ clients.

What I'm doing Saturday is a modestly priced compromise. I'll do 3 camera, solo shooter, with...

Finally doing 'Ceremony Only', what to film?

Hi, guys,

I've finally started agreeing to some not-all-day wedding jobs. I've already done a few 'Uncle Bob' style simple wedding videos as an add-on to my DJ service. This Saturday will be my...

Re: Anyone doing a "no disks" delivery yet?

I just started. Black River Imaging offers a DVD style printed case but with USB holder inside. I like the idea of future proof.

So now my main offering(s) are one nice case with USB, highlight...

Re: Sensor damage?

Despite having seen a bad DJ using a lot of lasers pointed at guests (and our cameras) just this summer, I totally forgot to change our contract so we can refuse to work around them.

Long form, solo shoot, 2 cameras, 2nd time

Yes, I'm the MC/DJ who thinks he's videographer. If you want to see one of my dances, skip to the 45:00 mark. I know when I'm only shooting video I don't want to be there that late, but it's pretty...

Re: Is it worth upgrading from 60d to 70d?

Steve, what specific lenses are you using with your 70D that are quiet?

I've tried a few, some STM, and haven't really found one I'm happy with.

Re: Lighting question when using Camcorders

Ever since I've done videography, as a DJ I leave the house lights up a little bit (dim, not dark) during the start of the dance, to help the photog/videographer. After the first 10 minutes, though,...
