Re: How to cool down
That's a good thought. I think there are various types of anti-fog screens and wipes you can apply to help with this sort of issue. I've never properly looked into it though.

Re: How to cool down
A little bit off topic, but one thing I've often found is that using any sort of viewfinder or loupe can be tricky if you're hot -- not only does your sheer body heat fog up the glass, but the sweat...

Re: How to cool down
Well, in the bottom part of Down Under, it tends to be hot and dry, not hot and humid. But I've had a lot of lens fogging issues when shooting further north, where it does get humid, like Cairns or...

How have you used gaffer tape at weddings?
Here's some things I've used it for:
-- Securing audio recorder to microphone (though I tend to use rubber bands now).
-- Covering cables on floor for safety reasons.
-- Securing microphone...

Re: Wedding camera placement
I guess in that sort of scenario, where B&G are facing away from audience for most of the ceremony, I usually try to put one camera on the "inside", and one in the aisle (to get the faces of priest...

Re: Biggest Challenge with DSLRs
My impression (but don't quote me) is that the Z-finder has been superseded by other brands -- like Kinotehnik.
I do find it an essential piece of kit for the one reason you mention: bright...

Re: Biggest Challenge with DSLRs
I've been shooting with DSLR for years and still often have focus issues. Wouldn't claim to be an amazing camera operator though.
I do use the Z-finder, and of course use the x5 and x10 focus...

Re: Instamic - the audio Gopro?
I've ordered one to see how it goes. But I'm still hoping the Juiced Link Little Darling will answer some of my audio prayers. Lav mic will surely yield better sound than the Instamic, and backup...

Re: Anyone transcribing speeches, etc?
Might be worth mentioning that Premiere used to have this function, but it was removed in CC 2015. If you install an older version you can still access it. Adobe has an explanation somewhere to the...

Anyone transcribing speeches, etc?
I've been thinking about it for a while. Main purpose: if you're going to construct a 15, 25-minute film out of audio grabs, maybe a transcript would make the whole process less painful and save...

Didn't think of that use -- have now ordered one to try it out! I could also see it being an option when you have to mic up a female who doesn't have any pockets or belt (eg, female celebrants, or,...

Re: Tripod for weddings shot with DSLrs
Well, the first tripod I used was an expensive Miller. Had a spreader, a beautiful fluid head, and carried a lot of weight. First tripod I owned was a $1000 Libec that also had a spreader. Fluid head...

Re: Tripod for weddings shot with DSLrs
Hey Joe, I guess one way to look at this is what's on your wishlist for the ideal wedding DSLR tripod, and how does it differ for you from a traditional tripod?
Personally:
-- I'm a big fan of...

Re: Asking more from the couple - Cinematic shots
Hey Clive, I like it, and tell you one random thing that particularly stood out to me... The groom goes up to bride, and then they go for a walk, and then they kiss. That's new to me. One more leg of...

Hi Pete, see diagram below -- some positions for cameras during processional. I think I've used all of them at one point or another. And even this doesn't exhaust the field. In particular, there's...

Re: Question for the cinematographers
Well, one thought is that behind the scenes there might be a lot of discussion with the bride, and pre-planning, as well as negotiation with the photographer.
Another thought is... Well, in...

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 6D?
Hi Rebecca, this response is going to be a bit unhelpful, but anyway... Kneejerk thought is -- don't buy anything. What you've got is fine! But it's true that you're missing out at the wider focal...

I seldom use NDs at weddings -- I just crank the shutter up. I also seldom use lens hoods!
But you might like to consider a product like this -- Flex Lens Shade Flex Lens Shade A001 B&H Photo...

Another note... So I was at a wedding yesterday, and noticed that the shoes seemed a bit slippy on the wooden floor of the church. I was sliding as I ran to set things up.
Then, later, during the...
