Re: Aliasing in 720p - XF300

One thing that helps a lot is increasing the noise reduction. This happens before scaling and if you take it to 10 the 720p will be pretty clean.

Re: 60D vs FS100?

Highlight handling? Way more easier to adjust ISO? Smaller package? Weather sealing? Would you use the FS100 in light rain? In dusty environments? My 7d has been all over the place, under water &...

Re: Flag for XF305 and best noise reduction

You need to create a profile for the camera. Just shooting something and using auto isn't going to cut it.

Re: Another nice C300 short and Review

Did your colleagues deinterlace the image? Or maybe the creators of the video did that. It's mind boggling how many people accidentally deinterlace their own progressive images causing these huge...

Re: XF-100 - My impressions after a 100 hours with the camera plus some test videos

Except pretty much all gradation type ND's that move slowly into place. It does not go fully into the light path at once. It slowly moves into place until it's full. (Or rotates between darker and...

Re: XF-100 - My impressions after a 100 hours with the camera plus some test videos

You need to compare it to consumer cameras which don't have a wheel but move the ND silently in place when the camera hits F4. The XF100 is not the first to do this. Canon hv20 has them and Sony HC1....

Re: XF-100 - My impressions after a 100 hours with the camera plus some test videos

Why are people still propagating that "there is no ND filter, only negative gain" when it's wrong. There is an optical ND. It's just crippled the same way they are on consumer cameras (like the HF...

Re: XF100: Setup suggestions for Interview (DOF)

Completely disagreeing with Les here. Never use 1/30 with 30p unless you like that kindoff footage. Double the framerate is the regular value, it looks good on most situations.

You need the get...

Re: Holding off purchasing nex FS100

I wouldn't. While 4:4:4 helps in doing greenscreen work, it doesn't help in anything else. 4:2:2 is also sufficient for that. 10 bit latitude though helps alot, not in vfx per se but in grading.

Re: NEX-VG20 Review from Slashcam Deutschland

For some reason slashcam has deinterlaced the material from VG-20. This will increase aliasing by 2x. Why do they do this? Who knows...

Re: Aliasing only when screen size is small?

I've been using it for 5 years now. Especially it's scaling and interlacing capabilities are really bad.

Re: Aliasing only when screen size is small?

If you take the viewer size down from 100% it will deinterlace causing jaggies. Just the viewer canvas though. If it's also in the file, check your interlace settings.

Top Gun Boys (pyrotechnics, explosions, 7d)

Hi all.

We shot this video with the Canon 7d, Sony hx9v, Contour. Had a lot of fun with the pyro stuff, constantly learning new things to explore. We tried to keep it close to airsoft so we left...

Re: F3 + S-Log + -3dB + Neat Video = SUPER CLEAN!

It's even better if you use Neat Video in AE in 32-bit mode. It will basically generate new bits into the file and even heavy grading won't cause banding. It's pretty awesome.

Re: "Shakyness" with the 50mm 1.8 (7D)

I also hate the jitteryness of DSLR footage using 50mm or higher lenses. The sigma 30mm f1.4 prime is better for that purpose as it's wider and the jitter is not as pronounced. You need to also...

Re: 36 Mbps JVC PX10 $899

Though the Casio EX-F1 has absolutely horrible quality in it's 300fps slow mo mode. Eventhough the resolution is small, also the compression artifacts completely destroy it.

We did try a test...

Re: The Great Camera Shootout Part 3

Pretty stupid that in the rolling shutter test, all the DSLR's were zoomed in closer. Offcourse they will have more rolling shutter when closer to the object because then the object moves faster....

Re: Something new from Canon on Nov. 3rd...

You can expose RED improperly too and get bad results even with that. Nothing can really help if one dp exposes wrongly. We finished a big commercial a month ago where the first shot was shot way too...

Re: 36 Mbps JVC PX10 $899

What the? Those are some of the most silliest things about regular videocameras. The only way to change gain is to go into the menu, set 3 (!!) presets and then switch between those presets with a...

Re: NEX-VG20 vs 5DMK2

Still the compression on the DSLR's is pretty good. The sony hx9v does way worse and it has avchd at 28mbps for 1080p. It frankly sucks compared to my 7d. Breaks up in even moderate motion into...

Re: Images are very soft when shooting wide over distances

No, it does have an ND just like most consumer cameras. The ND is different than in XF300, it automatically inserts itself slowly into place when the fstop reaches f4. It keeps it there until the ND...

Re: XF100 for events - or maybe something else?

The xf100 is quite bad in even moderate low light compared to my 7d with an f1.4 lens. And it's one of the better low light camcorders out there!

But in no way is the XF100 nearly as clean as the...
