the MDEFE tripods are the ones with the adjustable stick
and the one i think i want is the 756MF3

So, how do you know your batteries are dead?
you've got 4 x Vf-BN823's
you can shoot all day
you empty the first battery, and throw it into your bag and promptly forget which pocket is for the 'dead ones'

Update: Camera Fixed!
well, i ordered the part, the JVC shop weren't exactly happy about it, but it was about $39 all up... and my camera is as good as new! (even though it looks a bit shoddy)

they ARE however a little lighter so i'm not sure what that...
