Re: Time Lapse

Again, this flickers because you are using the wrong settings. If you used "M" it wouldn't flicker. In 'AV' you are asking the TTL metering to pick the right exposure time in a scene with changing...

Re: Time Lapse

You'll have more success using manual mode to begin with and maybe choose a subject that is easier to get a good and consistent exposure; even with experience, the setting sun is tough to get right.

Re: Upcoming hands-on comparison of F3, FS100 and AF100 from Philip Bloom

Mark, I have used lens adapters a lot. They are an effective tool to get a particular look. Your shots look nice and moody. I like the look, but they do show a lot of technical flaws too. Chromatic...

Re: NEX-FS100 demo footage shot for NAB

Alister,

The F3/FS100 image sensor is larger than APS-C. It is an S35 sized sensor measuring 31.1 on the diagonal, as opposed to 26.7 on APS-C.

Re: NEX-FS100 demo footage shot for NAB

Doug, it has nothing to do with user operation. It's simple physics.

The reason you don't see vignetting on your 18-105 is because it is not wide enough. Please read my earlier post carefully. I...

Re: Upcoming hands-on comparison of F3, FS100 and AF100 from Philip Bloom

Modern lens coatings are designed to prevent internal reflections, coming from the sensor, causing flares and ghosting.

Chromatic aberration is caused by a failure of the lens to focus all the...

Re: NEX-FS100 demo footage shot for NAB

Yes, Doug we are talking about the FS100 and no, it's not irrelevant. The other camera I mentioned was to help with my explanation - let me have another go, so people understand:)

Again, this is...

Can't be sure but it looks like a Panavision Genesis.

Re: NEX-FS100 demo footage shot for NAB

I agree misinformation should be challenged, so for clarity;

The reason you see no vignetting on your shots here is because you are using a full-frame 135 format lens.

Put the same lens and...

Re: Upcoming hands-on comparison of F3, FS100 and AF100 from Philip Bloom

I'd rethink both of those if I were you.

The Nikon f/1.4 AIS is far superior to the f/1.8. Can't speak for the Tokina, but it is more than a little slow for my liking.

Also, you'll spot the...

Re: full frame fast wide zoom off brand lens options

For Sigma, you need to look for lenses that are marked "DG" for full-frame or "DC" for crop sensor. You should only consider their "EX" lenses as these are their "superior" lenses.

For Tamoron,...

Re: Fader ND filters - Any recommendations?

You're are right Chris, though too much ND can cause softening due to infrared contamination - so Chuck might also be right.

Re: Glass and mounts for fs100

For clarity, that's not quite right.

DOF is is a function of focal length and the aperture, but is also determined by the camera-to-subject distance and the format size or circle of confusion.

Re: ND Filters

Martin,

You're right to steer clear of the variable ND filters.

Buying a set works out cheaper. I have a couple of sets of Tiffen NDs with 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 filters.

Of the cheaper makes,...

Re: James Cameron Buys 50 RED EPICs

The fact is, changing lenses on a 3D rig is time-consuming, so having multiple rigs with different lenses already lined up is going to be cost effective - even given the price of those Epics and Atom...

Re: Technicolor Cinestyle Initial Tests

Your test actually shows vastly improved shadow detail more than improved highlight, which is what I'm finding with this new low-contrast picture style.

Re: photos in FCP trouble

Erick,

You're tripping up on something that many people find difficult to grasp: PAL is an analogue SD format.

1920 x 1080 is HD. HD is neither PAL nor NTSC it is HD.

Re: Anyone else not a big fan of the nifty 50?

Mine stays in the bag most of the time. Usually, I'm wider or longer. It only comes out to play on the occasional interview set-up.

Re: Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS

The 70-200 2.8 IS has two IS settings, hand-held mode and pan mode. It takes a little getting used to as there's a slight lag, but both settings work very well on a tripod.

I have IS switched on...

The 20mm f/1.8 has surprisingly good optics. A touch soft wide open, but excellent from f/2 onwards.

The build quality could be better, but given the price it's not too shabby and the plastic case...
