Re: F3 vs Alexa
Naturally, good choices will always be important. Shooting someone in shade against a full sunlit background of over-exposed trees, for instance, will remain a bad choice. However, today's cameras...

Re: Cine Gear Expo
That's a shame, Taky, you missed a great show (as always). I myself park in the nearby neighborhoods--takes a little work but assures a quick exit and saves $10. Did that yesterday.
Dan, I missed...

Re: F3 vs Alexa
My feelings about these cameras on an image quality level is that I'm very happy with the F3, and ecstatic about the Alexa. If you factor in ergonomics, efficiency and reliability (which with the F3...

Some pictures of the shoot here:

Re: Hunger Games.......My eyes hurt!!!!!
I'm with you guys--not exactly a visual treat, no. I wasn't a fan of the lighting style/overall look either.
I had to dissect the visuals of the film as I was hired to shoot a (let me see if I can...

Re: Tightening the a Fluid Head
The ball shouldn't slip under normal use. Sounds like a tolerance issue either from wear or manufacturing defect. Sometimes the tie-down knob is to blame--some heads have a washer or spacer assembly...

Congrats on 10 months of bookings! Amazing!
With the spinal thing, a backmounted vest may indeed be the right thing for you. Again my concern is that it's a far more complicated design to...

Re: F3 vs Alexa - non log?
I wouldn't count them out yet. The F65 is going to have a good run.
I think that the next few years is going to see cameras from the various manufacturers fall in and out of favor. The Alexa is...

Re: steadicam Pilot vs Sachtler Artemis
"Full" rigs have a far greater payload (and subsequent body-load) than any of the systems discussed here!
A full-size stabilizer with average weight camera weighs around 75lbs all-in; start adding...

Re: S-Log Sample, colored in Davinci
Slightly off subject but since Colorista came up--I have to say that the secondary key and pop adjustment is the quickest and most effective way to apply "digital makeup" that I've seen (it's in the...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras
And I think we all agree that future audiences (i.e. children of today) will be able to assimilate 48p without issue--the question is, whether the adult public can "unlearn" and embrace. As I...

Re: 4 cameras on one screen?
To clarify what Marshall mentioned, the Decimator Quad will deliver a quad split via composite and SD-SDI output. The MD-Quad will do the same but also deliver HD-SDI output as well as HDMI (so you...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras
I have to disagree that those factors were more significant than frame rate. In the late 80's when I was working at a small production company, I discovered that switching a frame synchronizer to...

Re: F3 vs Alexa - non log?
I'm finishing up a feature one Alexa and the images are so lovely, it's easy to see why so many noted DP's have embraced the camera as the first truly worthy successor to celluloid. I like the F3...

Re: question for Zylight Z90 owners
I have a couple of 1x1's spec'd in all of my electric packages (I like the Bicolors) because they are quick, handy, small and can be battery powered.
I had a great use for the Zylights recently...

Obviously there's a certain amount of processing going on to dial in the contrast and what looks like grain (hard to tell in the small image), but I think it's pretty safe to say that he was shot...

Re: Skintones - HMI vs Tungsten vs Daylight
It's not "fair" to compare different units unless they are corrected to the same color temperature via gel and metered with a color temp meter. Skintones will always look better in a comparative test...
