Re: XF100 cannot separate audio channels when recording from an external mike

Doesn't make a difference. Just tried this on my 300. Thanks though!

Re: XF100 cannot separate audio channels when recording from an external mike

OK...now I see what you mean. I thought you were recording two mics and couldn't control the second channel. With one mic sent to both it does only have one level control. My 300 does the same thing....

Re: Need to pass on advice on "personal" camera

I work with a few prosumer people who do very similar shoots. I have recommended the HMC-40 to them and they couldn't be happier. One did an hour long documentary with over 50 interviews and it...

Re: XF100 cannot separate audio channels when recording from an external mike

The xf100 can absolutely set levels independently. Please refer to pages 79-81 in your manual which describe all the modes and how to set them. :)

Also list exactly your setup and whats plugged...

Re: How is LANC Control for the XF300?

I agree that you should give it a try. The camera's really the best in it's price range. The Canon controller is quite useable. I'd imagine the Manfrotto and Libec are too. My comment was just in...

Re: My xf100 just arrived today!

Richard, I think your chin is gonna hit the floor if you're used to seeing hdv from the a1. The 50mbs full 1920x1080 progressive is in a very different league. I have used the 105 a few times and its...

Re: How is LANC Control for the XF300?

I had a varizoom for my panny which worked very well. When I got my xf300, the same style controller was available so I got it. Huge disappointment! Lagged terribly and drifted. Ended up getting the...

Re: Glidecam good?

I think there's a lot more to the dialing in than most realize too. Took me a lot of reading then trying, then reading some more, then calling my friend, then trying...etc. The one odd advantage I...

Re: Glidecam good?

One thing that really should be stressed no matter the system is that it takes regular practice to become proficient. Charles, you really helped my friend who flies the pilot rig and when he saw me...

Re: Glidecam good?

Design differences noted and Charles, I simply can't argue with you as you are the expert. For the record, I'm actually using my sled setup with the monitor in a similar position to the pilot's. My...

Re: Glidecam good?

I use a 4000hd with a vest/arm with my xf300 which is about the same size and weight. Agree with the vest and arm being necessary for extended shooting with that size camera.
As for the quality, I...

Sachtler 4588 Speed Lock 75 CF Tripod w/ 75mm Bowl 4588 B&H

I bought the whole kit with these legs and fsb6 for my xf300. Extremely happy with the rig.

Please don't chinse out on the legs. You...

Replay XD footage test

This is from the pair of Replay XD cameras shooting 1080 30p. Kind of the ultimate vibration test on my Ducati! The forward facing camera is clamp mounted to the frame and I'm pretty happy with the...

Re: Buying microphones in pairs

Coming from the audio side of the world, pairs were nice to have as lots of stuff get recorded in stereo. If you're doing ambient recording then yes, a matched pair would be useful. Having a backup...

Re: GoPro HD and Contour HD Test

Very interesting! I'm still testing the new Replay XD which looks a lot better than my Contour. Loving the hdmi out and external mic input. Have to get my buddys GoPro to do a side by side.

Re: 2011 Showreel

I think the soundtrack works. In my mind I just want the audio there to set the mood and give something to cut to that reflects a personality. It does the job. There's enough variety of footage to...

Re: What is a good step up from the XHA1?

Wow...that's a bit silly with the Sony. Doesn't seem that they would release a camera like that.

In any case, the 100/105 only have one lens ring and an assignable knob at the front. There is no...

Re: What is a good step up from the XHA1?

If you're a Canon die-hard, the 300/305 is the ticket (even against all the other cameras under $8k IMHO)
The XF100/105 are in your price range and are also killer cameras but don't have the full...
