Re: First use of a drone at a wedding

Love it, too. Agreed. It's a great tool to use in the right spots, same as your slider - your establishing shots are perfect.

Re: Some Lip Sync Fun

Great work, Art.

My only issue is, I wouldn't put it online. If it becomes popular, and gets noticed, you could get slammed with a bill from the copyright holder, like Joe Simon did (Tony...

Re: who owns what?

Chris is right.

I"m hoping that, inspite of no contract, the implicit understanding, combined with the camera and actual operator being another person will mean the law is on your friend's side.

Re: who owns what?

One caveat, Chris. While the person pushing record generally owns the copyright (Have you seen the selfie taken by a monkey?), IF they were hired for that purpose, and copyright was not otherwise...

Re: Light stand as mic stand

Like this?

Altman Telescopic Stand - 5-9' 524-18 B&H Photo Video

reaches 3 meters.

Re: Unmanned cameras - light stands?

Found the style I was referring to:

Altman Telescopic Stand - 5-9' 524-18 B&H Photo Video

Note that it weights 40lbs or so, which helps keep it stable. I haven't used it for cameras, but...

Re: Unmanned cameras - light stands?

What about microphone style stands? With the round, weighted base plate, that would give you a tiny footprint, and some height. Mic stands only get up to, at most 5 or 6 feet, but there are...

Re: Love Story/ Engagement Shoot

Whatever you do, tell a story. The rest usually falls into place... a few pretty shots are great, and impress. Some nice tight shots of eyes, smiles, hand holding, etc to really display emotion,...

Re: Securing your audio

Peter, you'll want the microphone centered on the speaker, and at least one foot (1/3 meter) up to a meter. . This allows the sound from all 3 speaker components to reach your microphone together...

Re: Best "general use" lens

Most of the time, I see either the 24-105mm f/4 OR a combo of the 70-200mm f/2.8 and the 24-70mm f/2.8

With these two different cameras, perhaps 2 of these lenses would give you the reach you want...

Re: Booking Date conundrum...

No bank transfers around here, which makes it a bit easier, I suppose. Mostly it's check, Paypal, or credit card, leaving cash as the only untraceable, and so I insist on emailing them a receipt...

Re: Combining Religion And Your Brand

Scott, I've always been a fan of being my own brand. If you have no intentions of expanding or having employees who will go out on their own, just use your name, like most photographer's do. I used...

Re: Did it really need two?

I have to admit, it really doesn't bother me a little because of their gear, with one exception: if they're firing off a flash right next to me, over and over.

Other than that, it's simply the...

Re: Booking Date conundrum...

At this point in your story? 48 hours, and you tell her so, via email AND phone call (if you're able).

Anytime I reach this point with someone, setting aside a date while they decide for sure...

Re: Combining Religion And Your Brand

Scott, as a rube, I would have thought 'Shober Studios' meant your name was Shober, or that you work for someone named Shober..

wedding with Rapping MOH, dance contest

OK, so I was NOT the videographer at this wedding, but even when I'm the MC/DJ I always have my camera so I can make a 2-4 minute highlights video. Today's video is much, MUCH longer because I had...

Re: How to take your Wedding Videography to the next level?

I was thinking about this a bit yesterday, as I was livestreaming a Catholic wedding from the balcony and had zero things to do....

Many of the best wedding films have certain things in common:...

Re: Covering the first dance at the reception.

If it's just me, 2 cameras, right next to each other, one medium/wide, and one tight shot.

If there are 2 of us, we are on two different corners of the dance floor, wide, medium and tight.

Part...

Re: Blocked Shots - Why can't we go up?

Two of our Manfrotto tripods we chose specifically because they can get the camera above head level. There are times when that won't matter, though. For instance, it's common for the bride and...

Re: Delivery by hard drive?

32 GB USB drives can be $20 or less these days, so I'd say that's the best option compared to $50+ for a hard drive.

Re: Please Halp or critique.

To be fair, the idea is stolen whole cloth from someone else much better than me (Still Motion).

The please "Halp" is because we just watched "The Fifth Element" and I always find it funny when...

Re: How to take your Wedding Videography to the next level?

Sounds good, Tyson. If you want to show off a short form, I'd love to watch one.

If you want examples, I know there are plenty of trailers available on this site, in the example gallery. I've...

Re: How to take your Wedding Videography to the next level?

I'm guessing that's not what he meant, guys.

Tyson, my wife and I are considering moving to your area in 2 or 3 years - Bloomington is our first thought - to escape the frozen hellscape that is...

Re: Shooting Video and Being In the Wedding

Nothing wrong with your gear list, except for a nice long focal length lens. Or failing that, an older (vintage!) one that can do the job for now.

The problem is, of course, having someone run...

Please Halp or critique.

I filmed a bit for a couple's wedding reception - basically, they'll introduce themselves before being announced into the room. This will be shown on flat screen TVs in the banquet hall.

I can...
