Re: C300 Mk1 - Should I buy a used one now?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4k C100mkiii this year at NAB. Likely around $5-6k. Certainly not a given, but it would make sense, as Canon needs something to compete with FS5 and FS7.

Re: What is going on at B&H and Canon?

Canon's policy on Cinema EOS products with all of it's dealers is "no returns", and it's been that way since day one, at least as I understand. Every invoice I have from Samy's for C-EOS cameras and...

Re: Any news on the Canon CN-E 18-80mm?

It's just that your measurements of the fictitious 18-80mm/2/8 seem so exact, and...umm...certain. You must have inside information. You must. :-)

And a wide angle prime gaining 25% of its weight...

Re: Any news on the Canon CN-E 18-80mm?

Had no idea you worked in lens development at Canon, Gary. I thought canon employees were not allowed to comment here. :-)

Re: Any news on the Canon CN-E 18-80mm?

Not saying that at all.

At 200mm, the size of a lens growing from f4 to f2.8 IS generally substantial. At 80mm it is much less. The diameter of the 2.8 24-70 is only a few mm greater than the f4...

Re: Any news on the Canon CN-E 18-80mm?

Hi Gary,

I don't think you're seeing my point. The 18-80 is already bigger than both of the lenses I suggested. The primary size difference between a 2.8 and 4 lens of similar focal lengths is the...

Re: Any news on the Canon CN-E 18-80mm?

I know this is the "reason of choice" on this lens, but the reality is that the t/4.4 designation probably has more to do with protecting the "real" cinema zooms that cost 6x more.

The difference...

Re: Switching from 4K 25P to HD 50P (C300MkII)

Hi Matt,

You shouldn't need to go in to Slow and Fast Motion to shoot in 1080p50. In recording/media setup menu just change the resolution/color setting and then the frame rate (2 steps).

the...

Re: If my A Cam is a C300 mk II, what color settings should a C100 mk II B Cam use?

Ben...this is a tough one. The C300II sees color in a completely different way from the older cameras. If you peer deeply into one of the white papers you'll find that the "original Cinema EOS" color...

Re: C300 MkII ISO Colour Shifts

Hi Matt,

So...in general, you want to do an ABB every time you fire up the camera, typically wait for 20 mins or so for it to warm up and then do it. I also find it's helpful to take a hard look...

Re: C300 MkII ISO Colour Shifts

Hi Matt,

It would be great if you could give us more information concerning the footage. What gamma setting were you using? Also is the footage graded in anyway?

First culprits would be...

Re: Canon C700

Seeing as the camera hasn't even been released yet, I doubt that will happen any time soon.

Canon will likely drop the price of this camera over time, just like it has done with all of its video...

Re: C300 MkII Slow Motion Mode - Optical IS disabled? FIRMWARE UPDATE

Looks like there's a new firmware update that fixes the issue.

Firmware Version 1.0.5.1.00 incorporates the following fix:

1. Fixes the phenomenon in which the image stabilization function of...

Re: Canon USA reveals EOS 5D Mk. IV with 4K, new L-Series Lenses

I've seen both 1.64 (DPreview) and 1.74 (newsshooter). Realistically this is close to super35, and for a direct read out 4k, it's probably much better than a binned or line skipped 4k if they'd used...

Re: Video: Upgraded Canon Log2 and New Canon Log3

These charts (from the extended recording options white paper) have appeared in several iterations since the camera was announced. The 550mb/s rate never made sense to me (you would think it would be...

Re: Video: Upgraded Canon Log2 and New Canon Log3

There's a section in that white paper that talks about the 120 fps mode. I think it's more than "the same" bandwidth.

---"the data rate of the video components emanating from the image sensor...

Re: Video: Upgraded Canon Log2 and New Canon Log3

So...again this info is from the C300 II white papers...the maximum bit rate in XF-AVC for the camera is 550 in 120 frame HD or 2k mode (vs 410 for 4kp30).

When you look at section 6.0 of the...

Re: Video: Upgraded Canon Log2 and New Canon Log3

Yeah the frame rate reset thing has gotten me more than once, so happy to see it fixed.

As for the 4kp60 one, when you look through the image pipeline white paper, the image is processed at this...

Re: Video: Upgraded Canon Log2 and New Canon Log3

Great idea. I forgot to run an ISO range pass before I did the upgrade. While I can say with some surety that things look better in CLOG2 at higher ISO's up to about 6400, and that 3200 looks...

Re: Video: Upgraded Canon Log2 and New Canon Log3

I upgraded to the new firmware, shooting a before and after test in the studio with my homemade ghetto xyla chart.

Not much in the way of surprises. Clog2 sees a modest reduction in noise at 800...

Jon Carr and Canon released a video today showing the new "upgraded" Canon Log2 and Log3 in the newest version firmware.

C-Log2 looks much improved in it's shadow noise. Log3 seems like a modest...

Re: C300 MkII Slow Motion Mode - Optical IS disabled?

Hi Slavik,

Two reasons to use slow and fast motion mode....

Conforming to a standard project rate in camera.. Ie.. Shoot in 60p and have the camera record as 29.97 or 23.98. This is the reason...
