Re: Magic Lantern & HDMI Output

Check your firmware for the monitor... I know that on my DP6, they released a new firmware about a year ago that had a special preset for DSLR (both Canon and Nikon) to be able to view the image full...

Re: Best way to shoot a smart phone screen without moire?

I think Jon is giving you sound advice, but this is an advanced technique... if you've never done it before and this is for a paying client, proceed with caution! There are a lot of great tutorials...

Re: Hissing sound on 5DMK3

I agree! I bought one to use with my 60D about a year ago and had to return it, it was useless. It may have worked a little better with the MK3, but I didn't own it at the time...

For the OP, it...

Re: Hissing sound on 5DMK3

Mark 3 actually has much better noise reduction than the Mark 2... I record straight into my Mk3 all the time and get very nice results. No way is it as clean as going with a separate audio system,...

Re: Blown out audio with the 5D mk3 e new Rode video mic

I think what Charles was pointing out is that even when the HDMI diverts the video from the LCD screen, the audio from the headphone jack is still active... that's how I monitor my audio.
I use a...

Re: Canon 17 & 24 Tilt and Shift Lens

Are you planning to use it as an effect or to correct perspective distortion and things like that?
They really are nice lenses even without the T/S features... nice and sharp.

The tilt action...

Re: ND Filters and White Balance?

It's always a good idea to roll a few seconds on your white/gray card under your final lighting at your final stop so you can adjust your WB in post if necessary. If you have color correction on your...

Re: IPB vs ALL-I Encoding.

I have shot music videos using IPB and results are just fine. If you're transcoding before you edit, I would recommend sticking with IPB... if you want to edit the native h.264 content, All-I may be...

Re: EF 135mm/f2L: lens p0rn

It seems to me that shallow DOF usually only gets criticized by other photographers/videographers, but most clients really love it. As Brian points out, it's a great way to de-emphasize a boring or...

Re: EVF delay is killing me

Interesting...
I don't use Magic Lantern so I can't vouch for that, but to the OP last question, the 5D MkIII doesn't have the record lag issue.

Re: EVF delay is killing me

I use a DP6 SmallHD with my MkIII and there is no delay when hitting record... as stated above it's the resolution change that causes it. No way around it if you are using a different camera... but...

Re: Files Names

I think there is a setting in the menu that will allow you to choose how to handle the file names. If you choose "Continuous", I believe each file will have a unique name. If you use "Automatic", I...

Great looking frames!
Do you have a 70-200? Just curious, I didn't see anything that I can't get out of my 20-200 2.8

Re: Picture Style

I use Neutral and

Contrast -1
Saturation -2
Color Tone - 0

Re: C300 with Canon L lenses vs. 5D Mark 3 with Zeiss Primes

For black and white in post, add a HUE/SATURATION filter before you remove the color. You can get great control over your black and white tones by playing with the reds, yellows and greens this way....

Re: 5D Mark III and 1.4 Low light screen grabs

Quite liberating isn't it!

Be interested to see before and after if you plan to de-noise an of it. I haven't had to go that high yet. I usually don't go any higher than 3200, so it would be fun to...

Scott,

My Mark 3 does this too when playing back in QT, and it's a little unnerving for sure! But I downloaded your file and played it back in AE and Premiere, and they look nice there. So the...
