Re: Varying light levels

Funny, I was just having a conversation with a friend who shot one of the earlier space shuttles launches on 16mm film for our national Canadian broadcaster. He had to 'pull iris' as the rockets...

Re: Girls, Guns, and a 5D

This is a worthy discussion, and I hope the mods leave it. Alik's piece is a good example of the exploitation of both Sex and Violence. And it is ironic that real soldiers die, and real families...

Re: Matching DSLR & XLH1 - anyone doing this?

Thanks Marty,

I'm glad I've hung on to the H1 then. It was not really worth selling anyways. I'll look at the Samurai more closely. I remember the first of these HD-SDI recorders I looked at a few...

Re: Canon 70-200 f2.8 for Video?

Luc,

Are you talking about shooting video or stills? I have a non-IS 70-200 2.8 and really can't shoot handheld video... not because of the weight, more because the images look bad, either jello,...

Re: Matching DSLR & XLH1 - anyone doing this?

Michael,

If you're seeing it one way, and I'm seeing it the other, then it probably matches pretty good. : )

Actually though, I only use the pair together when shooting weddings, which isn't...

Re: C300 Sensor

Jon,

There's a reason that some of us rely on opinion leaders to read and decipher literature like that, before maybe camera purchase decisions. Thanks for posting. I'll let the pixel peepers have...

Re: Color Fix: Black is Brown?

Personally, I can't believe that those jackets are true black. That is some major red tint going on there.

We shot an actor recently against a green screen with what we thought was a dark grey...

Re: Matching DSLR & XLH1 - anyone doing this?

Simon,

I've been matching 5d2 and XLH1 for 2 years now and the H1 does look soft by comparison, but I was not using a nanoflash, so you should have a much better sharpness match. I usually shoot...

Hey Charles,

I'm glad that you jumped in, and Richard; sorry to hear about your loss and that you won't be working on the project. I was looking forward to seeing the progression.

Re: How you can get lost

Marco,

Sorry to hear about your hardship. as someone who went to film school 20 years ago and has never really made full-time money doing this work, I have a bit of advice. If you love what you...

Re: Canon L Macro Love: New PBS episode focusing on Paper Art

Hey Morgan,

The camera movement and the macro shots are working beautifully to tell the story. I've been using cheap extension tubes a lot more lately, but this piece makes a great case for the...

Re: Single shooters using glidecam/glidetrack/etc.

Nigel,

Thanks for the update! I've been waiting for this news for awhile and missed it. I don't think I'll bother with the feet but I will order the hybrid carriage. I'm assuming that it still has...

Re: shooting drama in a night club - advice please

Hey Richard,

what were your settings for the test? ISO and aperture... It does look like a cool place to shoot. Personally I'd soften the overhead lights with a little diffusion if you can make up...

Re: Testing 5D Mark II Out @ Best Buy There Is Viewfinder issues?

Thanks for the link Les. I've had my 5d2 for 2 1/2 years, and picked up some good info. I'll have to watch them all when I get the chance.

Re: Single shooters using glidecam/glidetrack/etc.

Jeff and others

I picked up the Glidetrack 30" SD model a year ago and I use it far more than my Glidecam. I keep a manfrotto 701 head mounted on it all the time and then throw it on top of my...

While the ultra low budget/short...

Re: Budget Light Meter

Ollie,

I just found an absolutely mint Sekonic 398M on ebay for $50.00. They are manual but they work great and don't need batteries. Plus, they look way cooler than the digitals.

Re: video for a new little Björk

Andzei,

This is great, and a hell of a lot of work. Also a very good edit. I would love to see the 'behind the scenes' version.

I will watch it a few more times as I get the chance.

Re: Canon 70-200 f2.8 for Video?

Silas,

I'd be very surprised if you could handhold the lens for video at 200mm even with IS. Especially on the 5d with rolling shutter. It might work with a shoulder rig but I'd be interested to...
