Sadly no NAB for me again this year. Starting a series the same day exhibits open.

Re: Need recommendation for gimbal

Ha--thank you Michael but I did say "small/lightweight gimbal"--! I think the M5 is overkill for this particular application.

Slavik, thank you for your suggestion as it was interesting looking...

Re: Test shoot with light meter and c-log

Hi Bob:

I have only shot a couple of times with the Canons and it's been a couple of years, so I don't have any specific advice for you, I'm afraid. I don't judge exposure primarily from log...

Re: Need recommendation for gimbal

Slavik: If you mount the Helix Jr onto a Steadicam or tripod by screwing directly into the base, isn't this defeating the tilt mechanism? I see they have a bracket available that spans the handles...

Need recommendation for gimbal

Hi: helping a friend with a really interesting type of shot for a TV pilot. They are looking to simulate a drone POV by putting a Blackmagic camera on an extension post on a Steadicam, getting the...

Re: Test shoot with light meter and c-log

Hi Rob:

I don't use histograms--there was that era with the DSLR's in 2010'ish where that entered into my realm by necessity but the last time one came up on a monitor, I was sort of thrown as I...

Re: Test shoot with light meter and c-log

My question would be: did you find the light meter any more useful than using the waveform in this scenario? I wouldn't think so. If you know where you like to peg the skin tones on the WF, there...

Re: Talk to me about Steadicams.

Rebecca:

If you are still having trouble, perhaps the solution may be to post a video showing your steps and what isn't working, and presumably someone may be able to suss out where you are going...

SmallHD DP4 kit

SmallHD DP4 monitor. Very lightly used. Still has shipping screen cover on it as seen in pictures, so screen will be virgin underneath.

Comes with viewfinder hood, two styles of eyecup, remote,...

Re: Heavily considering these lights.

That would be good, because the joists would give you plenty of mounting points to hang units, right?

Re: Heavily considering these lights.

7" is crazy low for shooting unless people will always be seated (interviews etc). I shot a series last year in an abandoned school and was brutalized by the teacher's lounge set which was closer to...

Re: Heavily considering these lights.

Strip lights have an interesting effect on faces. They are soft lights in one axis (width) but relatively hard in the other (height). So you will get wrap around a face and a relatively soft nose...

Re: Once expensive, now junk, but still hard to throw away?

Bruce, so we can expect some exciting new Hi8 cameras then...?!

Bob, thanks for that info. I have located an appropriate service facility and let's see what happens.

Re: Grease Live, 1/24 shutter speed...

It appeared to me that all of the cameras were set this way, so that must have been a choice (perhaps to gain a stop?). I didn't agree with it either. I could imagine a scenario where there was some...

Re: Once expensive, now junk, but still hard to throw away?

Thanks Seth. I had actually forgotten about Digital8!

I'm fully set up to digitize from composite and s-video (still working on the vast amount of VHS and SVHS tapes in the collection) so the...

Hi8 or Digital8 feeder deck/camera

Finally getting around to transferring my 8mm and Hi8 tapes and find that my old deck has crapped out (what a surprise). If anyone has a functioning playback unit that has S-video out (I know Digital...

Re: Once expensive, now junk, but still hard to throw away?

I am still trying to put a dent in my years-long project to digitize and archive my closet full of legacy tapes: home movies and work projects from the past 30 years. Yesterday I started on the 8mm...

Re: Old HV20 returns as a working prop!

This episode of Teachers airs tonight on TVLand at 10:30/9:30c. It's probably one of the best episodes of the season, other than having the HV20 appear in it!

Re: FILM FILM FILM! Kodak's back baby... Kodak's back.

I think the concept of a 2.5 minute run time (50 ft cartridge shooting 24fps) alone is going to be daunting enough for many users, especially those who have come up in the "keep it rolling" 1's and...

Re: Father of Allman movie worker killed by train tells judge director should remain

The budget for "Midnight Rider" was actually around $5 million. Shooting on an active railroad trestle is indeed not inexpensive, and would have been considered a big day for a film of that size. The...

Re: What is CRAFT?

Their single tweet indicates both HD and 4K cameras, so presumably the sub-$1000 is the HD one. Pretty modest pre-hype for this day and age.

Re: URSA Mini 4.6K vs 4K

I can certainly understand the frustration one can have with a generation of filmmakers who are obsessed with pixel-peeping, spec sheets and hyped-up product launches when they should be spending...
