Re: Sony Announcement, 26th July.

Re: has anyone used the new Tamron 24-70 VC?

I second Nigel's comments on the Canon 100mm IS Macro. It has one the best and most advanced image stabiliser units of all the lenses.
The image stabiliser in the latest version Sigma 120-300mm...

Re: EF 24-70/2.8 LIIU (5175B002) lens

Tests show that the new 24-70mm II lens is a tiny fraction better at 24mm wide open, but the older version is in fact better at 50mm and 70mm. The new version also displays more vignetting and...

Re: EF 24-70/2.8 LIIU (5175B002) lens

The tests on the prototype do not show a huge improvement over the present model, not enough to justify the leap in price. And that extremely slight improvement would only show up in huge...

Re: How to best prepare myself for this kind of shot?

Yes, 720P @ 60 is nice to have and produces smooth slow-mo video for long takes. The cut to slow-motion at 1:11 is a very short clip and could easily be replicated by shooting at normal fps with the...

Re: Pal / ntsc

I viewed the "Incomparable Ponoi" video short on Vimeo. Nice filming technique and very interesting. Great work Alan, I liked it a lot and thought that it was well worth watching.

I also sell my...

Re: Video: 5D Mk. II compared to 5D Mk. III

I don't think all this advice makes much difference. As in all walks of life, if you can afford it, get the best. Generally the very latest generations of any camera tends to have improvements on the...

Re: Video: 5D Mk. II compared to 5D Mk. III

I was in the same boat, Maurice, but in the end cancelled my D800 and Mk3 orders. I made a quick U-turn, paid cash for an extra Mark 2 body and some fantastic new lenses, and have no regrets.

Re: couple of questions about Mk.III Lens

EF 35 f/1.4L II
Canon filed a patent back in 2011, so yes, it will eventually be produced, but not for a while yet I think.

Canon filed patent for EF 35 f/1.4L II

Patent Publication No. US...

Re: couple of questions about Mk.III Lens

I don't see any need for IS function in wide lenses, so much prefer the 16-35mm L or 17-35mm L f/2.8 lenses for ultra-wide settings, and the 24-70 f/2.8 L for most normal wide work (the latter is a...

Re: Canon 5D Mk2 & Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 OS (Optical Stabilizer) DG APO HSM lens

I've been using the new Sigma 120-300mm HSM OS lens more and more lately, and it is fast becoming one of my favourite lenses for stills & video!
Still early days to form a solid opinion, but I...

Re: 5D Mk. III vs Nikon D800 - resolution, ISO, rolling shutter and more

Nikon lenses will mount on to any Canon EOS DSLR bodies using a simple adapter (with loss of AF of course).

To be honest, Maurice, I did not see anything in the Luke Neumann' Copelandia clip that...

Re: 5D Mk. III vs Nikon D800 - resolution, ISO, rolling shutter and more

I agree with Matt, and think that Dave's comparison of the two cameras is the best I've seen. Plenty of interesting facts and very informative.

Re: Is the 5D worth it?

There is no way that the 5D is 'outdated' and it still delivers outstanding video & stills. Just buy a secondhand mint-conditioned body on the cheap if you can't find the dosh for a new one, and then...

Re: Magic Lantern Install Advice please

Re: Canon 5D Mk2 & Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 OS (Optical Stabilizer) DG APO HSM lens

I do NOT have more budget, or I would have simply bought a couple of Mk 3 bodies & grips & flashes, a new...
